Mental illness, racism, terrorism, religion, workplace violence, school bullying.

There are many reasons for mass shootings, but the common denominator is the gun.

We’ve got more guns than people.

If only we could convince people that guns were just as dangerous as illegal immigrants.

That's just awful :(

The police are not discussing motives yet (FAR too early, unless the gunman makes a formal statement). But it will be interesting to see what comes out ?

How do you feel about the gun laws in the UK? How often do you guys have shootings like this? I remember the one after Ariane Grande concert years ago.
Do you think your gun laws help with the number of murder a and or mass shootings?

Pretty sure it was a bomb at the Ariana Grande concert.

He must've had a bad day.

But seriously, what needs to be addressed first, is the gun worship and the hero/patriot worship.

I don't really think about it much, but... I think we've got a pretty good balance ?

You don't get mass killings in the UK.. at least, not since the Cumbria Shootings in 2010 ? I suspect that our gun laws DO help reduce this sort of event, certainly compared to the USA.

I understand and share your frustration, but this is no way to start this topic. I get it, we probably won't get a lot of great discussion anyway, but we should at least try.
Actually, I think this was a great way to start the topic. The subject line promotes conversation by taking away the conservative argument that "now is not the time," which really functions as a way to dismiss conversation entirely until it's too late to do anything about gun control.

T&P functions similarly by pointing out that "thoughts and prayers" is also a cynical attempt to give the least amount of effort possible in actually fixing the situation. Symbolically, offering "T&P" is probably the only thing conservatives could do that would require less effort than "thoughts and prayers," and both are equally effective.

Thus, the topic has been framed in such a way that either forces conservatives to actually engage in how to make our country safer, or it at least keeps out the useless platitudes while the rest of us can genuinely talk about the topic.

If the headline touched a nerve, then it did its job.

Any details on the weapons used? That would be the best place to start the gun discussion.

Other than a “long gun” I haven’t heard. But I haven’t had the tv on much today so far.

This shirt isn't even news anymore in the US. If it's a day that ends in 'Y' you can safely bet on a mass shooting. If a bunch of first graders being gunned down didn't move the needle, why would this?
That is when I quit. I said "to hell with it" and just bought more guns to protect mine.

AR-15 is what I heard, but I also thought there was a shooting at the ariane grande concert.
I did hear Boulder had passed an anti assault rifle law that was over turned by the courts.

AR-15 'style' rifle.
One senior law enforcement source told CNN the weapon used in the shooting was an AR-15-style rifle.

I'm guessing the government will move toward banning aggressive/tactical style long guns and associated gear, and will limit magazine capacities to a maximum of 10. That seems like the next practical compromise. Beyond that, I have no idea.
