There’s a lot of doubt that Kevin McCarthy will be able to get enough votes to become Speaker. It certainly won’t happen on the first ballot. Already Boboert and MTG are publicly at odds over it.

Maybe this is worth it’s own thread to watch. One person mentioned is Scalise.

So I think that means the vote to table will fail and the motion to vacate will pass. If the D’s are going to actively vote, that sinks McCarthy. He can try to win it back but I don’t see how he can pull it off again.

Kevin McCarthy is even dumber than I thought.

    Like a lot dumber.

He allowed the crazy right to own him because of this rule. Then when they have torpedoed him AGAIN he still won't cut a deal. Going to oust me? It's the Dems that are doing this! Dude.

There is no scenario where this works out for him or his party.

The two things he was trying to protect, he has completely knee capped because he failed to coalition build when he could have or cut a deal.

Dems were obviously ok owning him and getting some things done. But he couldn't even lie to them because he screwed his opponents by refusing to keep his promise on the first deal.

I mean just ask Mitch how to do it. He's been dangling the bipartisan carrot for 15 years. Right after he said making Obama a one term president was their #1 priority. And stonewalling a SCOTUS nominee. And on and on.

Now Kevin will get the boot and they have no one who can get enough votes. They just declared civil war on themselves and the US is going to suffer for it,

And bless his heart he wanted it so bad.

Now he’s going to go down as the first speaker ever removed.

So if there's no Speaker. Like, ever again. Can bills still pass?

If a resolution were to pass, the House would enter into unchartered waters of making new precedent. Under continuity of Congress procedures enacted after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, there is a list of people who can act as speaker pro tempore in an event where the speakership is vacated. This was created in anticipation of a mass casualty event like a terrorist attack, but it would apply if the speakership is vacated.
Three sources with parliamentary expertise, who all asked to be granted anonymity, said that the next immediate order of business before the House would be the election of a new speaker. The speaker pro tempore cannot serve in the line of succession to the presidency so it would be a matter of national security and constitutional prerogative to have a duly elected speaker.
What would be different in this scenario than in January at the start of a new Congress is that all lawmakers are sworn in, House rules have been approved and committees are constituted. Lawmakers could still hold committee hearings and assist constituents, but the business before the House would be to elect a speaker. As the House experienced in January, this can take days and multiple rounds of balloting until a lawmaker receives a majority of the full House.

My interpretation is no as electing speaker is the next order of business.

“Oh, you guys noticed that? It was just rhetoric! Come on.”

McCarthy is such a fool. Based on comments from some Dem leaders, they fully expect him to move forward with business, one being support for Ukraine. Instead, McCarthy goes on national television and lies about the Dem. They are the only support he has to holding on to power. As the only adults in the House, they didn't want a shutdown and the House to do their job. Then he went full MAGA. He has zero tact. He deserves to be removed.

Unfortunately, we're gonna suffer...as will the bill to fund Ukraine.

Oh he's definitely toast now. Jeffries has backed it.

@RepJeffries "definitively" called for a vote against any procedural motion to delay the motion to vacate AND he said Democrats should vote to oust McCarthy.

The Dems should do this Speakership vote like the Catholics electing a Pope. Send black smoke up a chimney, for all to see, every time a Speaker vote fails. :hihi:

It only takes what, 5 Rs to switch sides and elect Jeffries as Speaker…..lol.

I’m beginning to think that Kevin might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, lol

I’m pretty sure that’s not gonna happen. Right now it’s looking like it’s gonna be close - some of the critics have walked back their enthusiasm to vacate. I saw a count that there’s four for sure, counting Gaetz to vote down the table motion and pass the vacate motion. They need one more.

But I don’t see how any GOP would come around to support Jefferies. We may have an acting Speaker for a while.

    It was a joke.

House Democratic centrists hold the key to bailing out Kevin McCarthy. Yet he’s given them no incentive to salvage his besieged speakership, according to a half dozen centrists who spoke to POLITICO on Tuesday.
One Democratic source, speaking candidly on condition of anonymity, said the speaker’s backers were calling members in the opposing party “begging” them to vote for McCarthy.
What a clown show. And also, in an interview on MSNBC one McCarthy ally was uncertain of the vote count and said it'll be interesting. He essentially blamed these maga repubs, and said they made it personal.
