There’s a lot of doubt that Kevin McCarthy will be able to get enough votes to become Speaker. It certainly won’t happen on the first ballot. Already Boboert and MTG are publicly at odds over it.

Maybe this is worth it’s own thread to watch. One person mentioned is Scalise.

The debate against the motion is powerful - I think this is a historic moment given how infrequently this happens. The defense of McCarthy is actually a defense of the “institution”.

The vote is going to be interesting. If it passes, it is indeed a mess.

powerful until we find out these clowns are saying it. Precedence rules…no it ain’t when it’s against our skewed views. Institutions and procedures…no it ain’t till they used the house for nothing but political meat on fishing expeditions. These clowns are spewing everything that they should be doing but aren’t the past year. All bs.

Totally true - but now they’ve backed themselves into this 45-day CR and is vacating the speaker going to help that at all? I think it’s a pretty stupid move at this point but I guess Gaetz figured that after the CR McCarthy was weak. I dunno - it’s clowns for sure.

I will say this though, the Democrats saying it's your mess, then actually voting makes them complicit. They could just vote present and let the Republicans do their thing. Actually voting to oust McCarthy is a vote against contrary to the preservation of the institution. They're in effect endorsing the chaos Gaetz is being accused of. Sorry, but I don't buy that it's solely a Republican problem even though the Republicans are the source of the problem.

Yeah, this really won’t help whatsoever. If I was a dem, that would be my position. But, McCarthy is pooping all over that. There isn’t even any remorse. I can’t trust him. No olive branch is offered.

I agree. McCarthy is absolutely going about this in a pretty arrogant manner. It's at least partly why he's in this position. I suspect he thinks they won't actually vote him out. Either that or he thinks there's really no alternative.

All that said, the Democrats are still participants no matter how much they say its a R problem. It's a House problem ultimately.

Why are they suppose to vote for someone they don’t like? That won’t even offer any power sharing? Offers nothing but insults their intelligence? Blames them for everything. The false platitudes and incessant blaming of dems on the floor atm is what is expected of them as they are going to bend over and say, thank you sir, may I have another? I think that’s a bit unfair as they are not in power.

They don't have to vote for him. Just abstain if it's really the R's problem. Now they're on record voting him out if that happens.
