Anxiety surges as Donald Trump may be indicted soon: Why 2024 is 'the final battle' and 'the big one'

WASHINGTON – It looks like American politics is entering a new age of anxiety, triggered by an unprecedented legal development: The potential indictment of a former president and current presidential candidate.

Donald Trump's many legal problems – and calls for protests by his followers – have generated new fears of political violence and anxiety about the unknowable impact all this will have on the already-tense 2024 presidential election

I’ll reframe this is a more accurate way, Are Presidents above the law? This new age was spurred into existence when home grown dummies elected a corrupt, mentally ill, anti-democratic, would be dictator as President and don’t bother to hold him responsible for his crimes, don’t want to because in the ensuing mayhem and destruction, they think they will be better off. The man is actually advocating violence (not the first time). And btw, screw democracy too. If this feeling spreads, we are In deep shirt.

This goes beyond one treasonous Peice of work and out to all his minions. This is on you or should we be sympathetic to the idea of they can’t help being selfish suckers to the Nation’s detriment? Donald Trump is the single largest individual threat to our democracy and it‘s all going to boil down to will the majority of the GOP return to his embrace and start slinging his excrement to support him?

the lies that DEI will make things equal is easy to dispel.
The Air Force has pulled and is reviewing a basic military training course that includes videos on the history of pioneering Black and female pilots during World War II, following President Donald Trump’s order to halt diversity, equity and inclusion programs.

White male grievances - What are they so scared about that they have to rewrite history....

Jim Newman was over it. “Hell no!” Newman, a Village People member for eight years in the 2010s, wrote in a 15 January Instagram post. “Neither myself or any of my band mates will be performing at Trump’s rallies.”

Newman had received a slew of texts asking if he would be on stage with the president in the leadup to the inauguration, and he wanted to set the record straight. “Our Village People would never ever perform at a Trump rally; we would never give him the rights to use those songs.”

Donald Trump has been slowly adopting the song as a campaign anthem since 2018, playing it at rallies and dancing on stage to it. It became a favorite at anti-lockdown rallies, DJ Steve Bannon has spun it and Trump helped it hit No 1 decades after its release on Billboard’s dance/electronic sales chart.

It all peaked with a performance of the song by a group calling themselves Village People but containing only one original member, the “cop” Victor Willis, at the inauguration ball. The song was co-written in 1978 by Willis and the French songwriting/production duo Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo.

Willis’s performances as Village People at inauguration events come after a two-decade crusade to secure usage of the group’s name and the royalties he says he was denied.

Right now, there are two iterations of Village People – the Willis outfit playing for Trump, and Kings of Disco, a touring outfit made up of Newman alongside the original member Alex Briley (GI), Ray Simpson (who replaced Willis as the “cop” in 1980), Eric Anzalone (the “biker” from 1995 after the original member Glenn Hughes hung up his leathers), Bill Whitefield (the “construction worker” from 2013, replacing David Hodo), and Andrew Pacho (the “Native American” character since 2013).

When contacted by the Guardian, former members declined to speak on the record for fear of Willis, whom one described as “extremely litigious”.…….

Trump’s taste skews towards brash 80s – this is a guy who invited Hulk Hogan to the RNC and just named Mel Gibson, Jon Voight and Sly Stallone Hollywood ambassadors – so his penchant for the YMCA is unsurprising.

The president’s use of the song dates back to his 2018 remarks while introducing a new US-Mexico-Canada trade deal. “The USMCA! Like the song YMCA,” he explained, before singing the song’s chorus.

As Trump began to walk out to the song at rallies, Willis – who had won co-ownership of the band’s early music as well as the group’s name in 2010s court cases – initially asked him to refrain from using Village People music, followed by a 2023 cease-and-desist.

After Trump won a second term, Willis changed his mind and said in a Fox News interview that he’d given the Trump campaign rights to use the tune. He added on Facebook: “The financial benefits have been great.”

The millions that Willis says he stands to make from a Maga-endorsed YMCA presumably makes it easier for him and his associates to put on all the bells and whistles (well, fringe and leather) for an administration set on a scorched-earth approach to LGBTQ+ protections.

On his first day in office, Trump signed executive orders to lay off all government diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI) staff and declared there are only “two genders”.…….

Yes, he only “technically” broke the law

Also my understanding is beyond the 30 day notice he also has to provide a good reason to fire the IGs and Trump reason can’t just be “Because I forking want to!”

And it isn’t a rally or Fox News interview the reason can’t just be something generic like “they’re terrible” “new blood” “past failures” he’s supposed to offer a concrete real reason these people need to be terminated

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) defended President Trump’s decision to oust more than a dozen inspectors general in a late-night shake-up of the federal government.

He conceded, however, that Trump should have notified Congress of his decision 30 days before taking such action, as outlined by the law.

“Yeah, he should have done that,” Graham said in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” when asked about the law dictating notification of Congress 30 days before.

“But the question is, is it okay for him to put people in place that he thinks can carry out his agenda? Yeah. He won the election. What do you expect him to do? Just leave everybody in place in Washington before he got elected?” Graham said.

“This makes perfect sense to me,” he continued. “Get new people. He feels like the government hasn’t worked very well for the American people. These folks did a pretty lousy job. He wants some new eyes on Washington. That makes sense to me.”

“He wants to put people in place, including inspector generals, that can implement his agenda,” Graham said, adding, “So that’s just the way it goes when you win an election.”

In an interview on NBC News’s “Meet the Press,” Graham noted that Trump “technically” broke the law requiring the president to give a 30-day notice to Congress before firing the IGs.…….

FYI - here is the transcript of her direct plea to Trump:
"Let me make one final plea, Mr. President. Millions have put their trust in you and, as you told the nation yesterday, you have felt the providential hand of a loving God. In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. There are gay, lesbian and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and Independent families, some who fear for their lives. The people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings; who labor in poultry farms and meat packing plants; who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants and work the night shifts in hospitals. They…may not be citizens or have the proper documentation. But the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors. They are faithful members of our churches and mosques, synagogues, gurudwaras and temples. I ask you to have mercy, Mr. President, on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away. And that you help those who are fleeing war zones and persecution in their own lands to find compassion and welcome here. Our God teaches us that we are to be merciful to the stranger, for we were all once strangers in this land. May God grant us the strength and courage to honor the dignity of every human being, to speak the truth to one another in love and walk humbly with each other and our God for the good of all people. Good of all people in this nation and the world. Amen”

It’s been less than a week since Episcopal Bishop Mariann Budde confronted President Donald Trump, but those in her inner circle are “universally concerned” about her wellbeing after she received a flood of “violent speech.”

At the National Prayer Service last Tuesday, Budde pleaded with the newly sworn-in president to “have mercy” on vulnerable communities, including LGBTQ+ youth and migrants as he steps into his second term. While some praised the bishop as “fearless” and “brave,” Trump took to Truth Social the following day to slam her as “nasty” and as a “Radical Left hard line Trump hater.”

His remarks seemed to have ignited his followers. One Republican Congressman even called for the bishop, a U.S. citizen, to be deported.

Budde told the New Yorker that she personally doesn’t pay much attention to the critics, but those around her have expressed concern.

“To keep my own sanity, I don’t spend a lot of time reading the comments. But those who have been monitoring them are concerned about the level of violent speech that is embedded in them,” the bishop said.…..
