Anxiety surges as Donald Trump may be indicted soon: Why 2024 is 'the final battle' and 'the big one'

WASHINGTON – It looks like American politics is entering a new age of anxiety, triggered by an unprecedented legal development: The potential indictment of a former president and current presidential candidate.

Donald Trump's many legal problems – and calls for protests by his followers – have generated new fears of political violence and anxiety about the unknowable impact all this will have on the already-tense 2024 presidential election

I’ll reframe this is a more accurate way, Are Presidents above the law? This new age was spurred into existence when home grown dummies elected a corrupt, mentally ill, anti-democratic, would be dictator as President and don’t bother to hold him responsible for his crimes, don’t want to because in the ensuing mayhem and destruction, they think they will be better off. The man is actually advocating violence (not the first time). And btw, screw democracy too. If this feeling spreads, we are In deep shirt.

This goes beyond one treasonous Peice of work and out to all his minions. This is on you or should we be sympathetic to the idea of they can’t help being selfish suckers to the Nation’s detriment? Donald Trump is the single largest individual threat to our democracy and it‘s all going to boil down to will the majority of the GOP return to his embrace and start slinging his excrement to support him?

President Trump on Wednesday repeatedly suggested it was a mistake that former President Biden did not preemptively pardon himself before leaving office.

Trump, in a sit-down interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, also danced around questions on whether Biden should be investigated. But on multiple occasions, Trump signaled Biden should have taken advantage of the pardon power to protect himself.……

Donald Trump took power on Monday as the 47th President of the United States, quickly issuing a flurry of clearly illegal executive orders and making changes to the social media accounts and websites controlled by the office of the president.

Arguably one of the most shocking changes to the president’s web footprint involves the U.S. Constitution.

Anyone who now googles the Constitution and follows the link to the White House website currently sees a 404 error…..

    Bolding mine

They’re not wondering if Trump used them are they?

    ===============================
Within hours of President Donald Trump’s inauguration, the new administration took down the Spanish-language version of the official White House website.

The site — currently https://www.whitehouse.gov/es/ — now gives users an “Error 404” message. It also included a “Go Home” button that directed viewers to a page featuring a video montage of Trump in his first term and on the campaign trail. The button was later updated to read “Go To Home Page”.

Hispanic advocacy groups and others expressed confusion at the abrupt change and frustration at what some called the administration’s lack of efforts to maintain communication with the Latino community, which helped propel him to the presidency…….

And you purposely omitted information about that quote because you knew it was old and stale. How does that make you come across?

Why does the age of the quote invalidate it? This is one of your major issues on this board. You proclaim because the quote comes from Barry Goldwater it doesn't apply to modern politics. Why? You don't go there. You don't qualify your argument. Let me validate mine in detail.

Nixon's Southern Strategy which was the first attempt to marry the GOP to the racist bible thumpers of the south. Barry Goldwater was one of the chief architects of this plan. That's why he matters.

What came next? The Moral Majority.

Why? desegregation. Again, just a bunch of racist using religion. Jerry Falwell, and his crew become politically motivated when the federal government made them integrate black students at their sunday school colleges.

You can a read a really good politico article on it's origins here: https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2014/05/religious-right-real-origins-107133/

This plan was successful. The south is ruby red. It's also helps you understand why "Christians" are ok with a amoral person like Trump. Why are they are ok with Seig Heil? They were always racist. It's why conseratives must have an outgroup to thrust all of society's woes onto.

You want to actually educate yourself. You should start with the question, "How did blue dog Democrats die out?" You will end up back at this post.

Yes, they are. They thought they were going to be viewed as equals. They didn't see the forest for the trees: I said it before, migrants in the U.S. don't like migrants coming in to compete for their jobs; they counted on a border shut down, they got deportations.

    Donk,

I already said why it mattered that the age of the quote mattered. I said quite clearly that many things have changed in 60 years. An example, we communicate much differently is an obvious difference.

Maybe, just maybe, if you bother to consider those changes and educate yourself, you will be able to answer how and why Blue Dog Democrats die out. Maybe you will understand why more and more people don’t want to identify themselves with either party.

When will people learn HE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. he will use you to get what he wants then kick you to the curb. This has been his M.O. his entire life. It ain't new, man.

Let's try focusing on the actual quote. Here it is again:

"Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them."

Does this quote accurately describe the current state of the GOP? By that, I am asking if the GOP is currently influenced to a larger degree by religion and religious leaders and if the GOP is averse to compromise.

To a larger degree? No. Does the religious vote have some influence. Yep. Does it control? No.

We do not have a theocracy. Not even close.

The house says differently. When was the last time you saw members of congress kneeling on the floor putting their hands on the speaker while praying?

And I don’t think anyone is saying we do have a theocracy - yet. What we are saying - and what is obviously true - is that there is a large contingent of the GOP that is actively trying to take us closer and closer to a theocracy.

You seem to want to deny what is happening. We have already seen women lose a large part of their bodily autonomy because of religious zealots. These same people want to do away with no-fault divorce, and same-sex marriage for religious reasons. Using laws codifying religious beliefs to force the entire populace to adhere to said religious beliefs is the very definition of a theocracy.

We are much, much further down that path than you are willing to admit.

I have been hearing this same rhetoric since I began voting in 1980. And yet Indont see where we are any closer to a theocracy today than we were then.

Do we have religious people in this country and do they vote? Yep. Do they have influence over policy? Sure. But does some radical right evangelical movement threaten to turn this country into a religious theocracy? No.

I don’t see that we are any closer to a theocracy than 1980.

I don't know if I'd totally agree when you look at the state level. For example the things going on in Oklahoma with the Superintendent of Education. That is clearly theocratic! Not to mention that we now have state and federally funded religious education. And all of the anti-LGBTQ+ legislation denying peoples gender to denying students books on gay people is religious doctrine put into government practice. Not to mention all of the anti-science BS and mandating teaching creationism in schools. It's now all officially coming to the federal government.

    Theocratic government is already here.

But does some radical right evangelical movement threaten to turn this country into a religious theocracy?
    Yes.
That's why abortion is no longer federally protected, why some States have enacted laws to make access to birth control for women harder and deny life saving treatment for women, or force them to give birth to death babies; that's why Republicans want to legislate Christian prayer into schools along with the 10 commandments; that's why Trump posed holding a Bible (upside down) and dog-whistle the Evangelicals; that's why as much as some blame the Jews for space lasers that create fires, they'll still defend Israel (that Book of Revelations thing); speaking of the Book of Revelations, that's why Evangelicals vote for such a sinner, because they think he's the stubborn king of the West; that's why the once VP Mike Pence said on the floor of the House that evolution is "just a theory"...

There's more, but if this doesn't make the point... the U.S. may not have some 'Murican Christian version of the Ayatollah, but who knows what the future holds.

Does that apply to any quote made at any time?

If so, the quotes from FDR, Lincoln, Jefferson, Adams and Washington are meaningless because “many things have changed in “X” years…”.
