While saying he supports the Second Amendment, Biden called the absolutist arguments of some gun-rights supporters “bizarre.” Noting people can’t own machine guns or bazookas, Biden said, “Why should we allow people to have military-style weapons including pistols with 9-mm bullets and can hold 10 or more rounds?

IMO, if Biden wants to persuade people, including those who want to retain the right to own weapons for self defense, he really should learn more about guns. Based on prior statements as well those he made in the linked article, he seems hung up on the idea that a shotgun is the correct weapon for personal defense, and that a 2-3 round capacity is adequate. Furthermore, when he throws out "9mm" as if it is some unusually lethal round, he really sounds as though he is, at best, willfully ignorant and can't be trusted when it comes to legislation restricting gun ownership.

The thing is there are people on this board and in society that have never lived outside of metro areas. Yet they want to make laws that actually impact our lifestyle that they know nothing of.

Here's another version of your argument:

The thing is there are people on this board and in society that have never lived outside of in metro areas. Yet they want to make laws that actually impact our lifestyle that they know nothing of.

So, it's not really a logical justification of your position. If we want to find common sense answers we need to let go of this notion of winners and losers being force fed to us by partisans. Give people the benefit of doubt.

I appreciate you asking. Guns are a GREAT investment. I just recently purchased a really nice 308 for $2200. (Beautiful weapon that I can really reach out and touch with). As soon as a liberal gets in office, I will sell it for upwards of 5k.

I think I paid for college off of the Brady Bill. The thing is there are people on this board and in society that have never lived outside of metro areas. Yet they want to make laws that actually impact our lifestyle that they know nothing of.

I started this thread, in part, to point out that those who know the least about firearms (in this case Biden) are the ones who think they know best about firearms and think they should be in charge of restricting gun rights. Interestingly enough, that concept has proven true in this thread as well.

Someone who has obviously extremely limited knowledge about firearms constantly wants to tell those with knowledge what weapons they should use, why choose certain weapons, the value of their weapons, etc.

When we have someone who knows next to nothing about the topic assigning motives to those who do for selecting different types of firearms it doesn't help. Especially when those motives are meant to be insulting and wrong.

There is actually an opportunity to learn ITT, but there seems to be little interest in that.

For example, rather than saying, "you just use a 300 Blackout because you want to overcome certain personal deficiencies," one might ask what advantages there are to the 300 blackout.

That makes much more sense than stating something like "you don't need to empty a 30 round clip (sic) to hunt hogs." (Which I can all but guarantee he has never come close to doing). This image that someone using that firearm is burning through ammo Rambo style is just incredibly ignorant.

No, you haven't proven anything. LOL. Using your logic, we'd only hire gangsters to run prisons. Oh, wait.

Finding random people who are deemed "less knowledgeable" about a subject is a pretty low bar of proof. Do better. In a democracy, we hope to educate people so they'll make more informed choices at the polls, correct? Using fear and emotion to "win" may work short-term, but we'll wind up paying long-term. What's wrong with being honest?

born and raised in river ridge. I don’t see us trying to make laws to impact your right to own a gun. Heck our laws were made 200 years ago.

Plus the economics of reloading vs buying buck shots.

do you think moose or Sharon have any idea what a 300 blackout is and what it is designed to do without google?

we are trying to educate. A shotgun is not the end all he all when it comes to firearms.

I’m sure my 16 year old dancer or my 10 year old dancer will happily teach you proper gun handling skills. Reloading, cleaning, etc.

watching your daughters face light up when she blows up a watermelon from 800 yards is pretty cool.

I feel pretty confident that neither do. The problem I have is that, at least with respect to Moose, he feels he can tell you exactly why you would choose a certain firearm and/or caliber, knowing full well that he doesn't know anything about the topic.

Your post summarizing what has occurred ITT doesn't really match the conversation, IMO.

If I had never cooked a meal, I would not walk into a commercial kitchen declaring that the staff only needed the equipment I guessed was necessary.

I guess you have grizzly bears, me, and elk at your country spread. Or just want to shoot thru cinder blocks?

Now we are talking so you bought a semi automatic gun that shoots big game rounds?

I know this because I inherited a real nice 30 06 that was my great uncles over 20 years ago. That was his big game gun. He was the guy that took me hunting. My dad really did not like shooting guns much after Vietnam.

The bear skin rug went to somebody else I really wanted that.

So I do understand hunting rifles have used them and own one. Just so you know who you are talking to. I think hunting rifles have their place yet you need to pass a background check.

Just another question do you kill flies with a baseball bat?

    we are trying to educate.

What is the message that's being sent? That a gun is a solution to every problem? The only solution? That would be hypocritical if we then lament inner city youth violence. Wouldn't it?

Using more powerful weaponry than what's needed (for feral pigs?) makes it a toy, not a tool. That's fine for you, but don't pretend it's the only solution or that there might not be other consequences or risks.

So, who should we trust to "make laws" about guns (the supposed premise of this thread)? People you deem unknowledgeable about guns, or people who treat guns as toys and glamorize their use?

    Yep I do know!

And I also know people that live in fear have loaded guns everywhere. Are we living in fear?

I think a semi automatic rifle is extreme over kill of any semi rural animal encounter. In south la.

And yes if you live on Kodiak island buy a semi auto rifle that will stop big game from a great distance.

But no normal humans don't need to shoot sniper rounds one after another.

It is ok to be scared shirtless might I suggest again to get help with your fears.

Ma’am you are speaking about something you have zero understanding. I assure you we don’t think of guns as toys. We don’t treat them that way and we don’t educate our children that way.

to answer your question, I would rather people who understand guns making those laws.

and what weapon would you like me to use to keep my property from getting run over by hogs. I’m willing to talk it out.

for added conversation, my neighbor saw a coyote on his cameras the other day. I have my beautiful, Henry arms 17hmr, out of the safe Incase I also see the coyote. Now ask yourself, why am I using the 300 for the hogs and the 17hmr for the coyotes.

that is if you really want to know and not just throw out politic-speak.

A shotgun definitely works killing hogs. Infact I am sure you can find ammo much cheaper designed to drop hogs.
A shotgun would kill a hog — at extremely close range. Wild boars are not something you want to get that close to you, plus If you are killing for food, a shotgun is a poor choice on large animals.

A regular rifle is best for hunting hogs (or deer, moose, other large animals). One might need a larger caliber but a rifle is the preferred weapon. One doesn’t need an AR15 but a multi shot capable rifle is ideal.

a 300 blackout is not a sniper rifle, however it’s a great hog hunter. Unlike the traditional ar15, the 300 doesn’t have the range, however delivers a might blow at shorter ranges.

a 300 blackout is to the traditional ar15 just as opposite is the 22mag to the 17hmr. The 17hmr is faster and more accurate at longer ranges try an the 22 mag.

true if I were hog hunting from a stand. When I get up at 5 am and there are 5 hogs in my yard, I’m not interested in trying to stalk them. The most I have ever killed in a scenario like that was 2. I have taken a 3rd shot on an occasion, but they are out of range at that point.

    Owns a 30-06

Criticizes someone for owning an unnecessarily poweful .308

    Beautiful.

And clearly ignored what the owner of the .308 said he likes about the weapon.
