Russia continues to mass assets within range of Ukraine - though the official explanations are that they are for various exercises. United States intelligence has noted that Russian operatives in Ukraine could launch 'false flag' operations as a predicate to invasion. The West has pressed for negotiations and on Friday in Geneva, the US Sec. State Blinken will meet with the Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov.

Certainly the Russian movements evidence some plan - but what is it? Some analysts believe that Putin's grand scheme involves securing Western commitments that NATO would never expand beyond its current composition. Whether that means action in Ukraine or merely the movement of pieces on the chess board remains to be seen.

VIENNA — No one expected much progress from this past week’s diplomatic marathon to defuse the security crisis Russia has ignited in Eastern Europe by surrounding Ukraine on three sides with 100,000 troops and then, by the White House’s accounting, sending in saboteurs to create a pretext for invasion.

But as the Biden administration and NATO conduct tabletop simulations about how the next few months could unfold, they are increasingly wary of another set of options for President Vladimir V. Putin, steps that are more far-reaching than simply rolling his troops and armor over Ukraine’s border.

Mr. Putin wants to extend Russia’s sphere of influence to Eastern Europe and secure written commitments that NATO will never again enlarge. If he is frustrated in reaching that goal, some of his aides suggested on the sidelines of the negotiations last week, then he would pursue Russia’s security interests with results that would be felt acutely in Europe and the United States.

There were hints, never quite spelled out, that nuclear weapons could be shifted to places — perhaps not far from the United States coastline — that would reduce warning times after a launch to as little as five minutes, potentially igniting a confrontation with echoes of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

The AP article quoted an unnamed intelligence official. I'm reminded of this video about the CIA admitting to laundering US propaganda through the US media.

Good lord that’s such hyperbole. What a terrible take. And, predictably from you, no acknowledgment that Biden took exactly the right course, kept everything cool and the US facilitated finding out the truth very swiftly.

What an embarrassing mess to post that.

Edit: and now it makes a little more sense. The only, ONLY place that I read that the world was “on the brink” of WWIII was a tweet that translated Russian State TV. So once again SFL is actually quoting regurgitated Soviet propaganda. Lol - hilarious.

And the Russian propaganda continues. Tucker doesn’t even make sense here. It’s not the democratic left - it’s a bipartisan coalition that supports helping Ukraine. The Democratic left actually tried to soft-peddle it recently, and were brought up by the vast majority.

Pretty convinced that more than anything these people are upset because through the lens as they see it Ukraine represents liberals/weakness while Russia represents conservatives/strength and the side they identify with is vastly underperforming and witnessing the Ukrainian strength and resolve is driving them crazy.

Yep, they like to think dictators project strength without realizing that it’s actually the opposite. All dictatorships fall, and pretty quickly in the grand scheme of history. When corruption rules, armies are mere shells, and the corruption seeps down into every facet of society. Whereas a representative form of government is stronger because of its diversity.

Yep and it's why they took to Trump because they mistake his flaws for strengths as opposed to the glowing signs of weakness they actually are.

Also because the citizens feel invested in the nation.

Those MAGA's sure do love them some Russia..

And just like the Russians they idolize, they sure do love everyting the West has to offer. ( send kids to western schools, multiple properties owned in the West, etc etc )

They love Russia but would never really "live" in Russia. They love the control aspect of those Russians they idolize.

A US intelligence official was quoted in the Associated Press claiming that Russia fired the missile. One of the very news organizations that people like you claim are credible outlets. How did they get played most likely by the CIA.

I'm glad Biden did the right thing and I applaud him for that.

One things that's ironic is now some Generals are calling for negotiations in the Ukraine Russia war. The progressives were thrown under the bus for even suggesting it recently. What changed other than the midterm elections being over?

It’s not a quote if it’s an anonymous source. Also, there is a whole lot of nuance here that you are entirely ignoring.

Which generals - retired or active? Quote them if you can.

The Associated Press fired a reporter over a retracted story about Russian missiles amid ongoing tension in Europe and the war in Ukraine.

In an alert sent shortly after a Nov. 15 explosion in Przewodów, Poland, the AP reported a senior U.S. intelligence official said the explosion was the result of missiles that had been launched by Russia.

That report, which relied on a single anonymous source, turned out to be false, and the news organization eventually retracted the report and replaced it online with a correction.

Ok, so now that dude got fired for bad reporting, you still sticking with the “It's a conspiracy from the media!"

Rather than the truth. Ya know that a reporter jumped the gun trying to scoop a huge story and when his source turned out wrong he lost his job.

This is EXACTLY why we do call them reliable. Because they admit when they get it wrong and correct the error. Nobody expects flawlessness. Just culpability.

I hope all of this doesn’t give you an aneurysm.
