Russia continues to mass assets within range of Ukraine - though the official explanations are that they are for various exercises. United States intelligence has noted that Russian operatives in Ukraine could launch 'false flag' operations as a predicate to invasion. The West has pressed for negotiations and on Friday in Geneva, the US Sec. State Blinken will meet with the Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov.

Certainly the Russian movements evidence some plan - but what is it? Some analysts believe that Putin's grand scheme involves securing Western commitments that NATO would never expand beyond its current composition. Whether that means action in Ukraine or merely the movement of pieces on the chess board remains to be seen.

VIENNA — No one expected much progress from this past week’s diplomatic marathon to defuse the security crisis Russia has ignited in Eastern Europe by surrounding Ukraine on three sides with 100,000 troops and then, by the White House’s accounting, sending in saboteurs to create a pretext for invasion.

But as the Biden administration and NATO conduct tabletop simulations about how the next few months could unfold, they are increasingly wary of another set of options for President Vladimir V. Putin, steps that are more far-reaching than simply rolling his troops and armor over Ukraine’s border.

Mr. Putin wants to extend Russia’s sphere of influence to Eastern Europe and secure written commitments that NATO will never again enlarge. If he is frustrated in reaching that goal, some of his aides suggested on the sidelines of the negotiations last week, then he would pursue Russia’s security interests with results that would be felt acutely in Europe and the United States.

There were hints, never quite spelled out, that nuclear weapons could be shifted to places — perhaps not far from the United States coastline — that would reduce warning times after a launch to as little as five minutes, potentially igniting a confrontation with echoes of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

He has to. Which is lifting the vail of lies.

I suspect we will hear that Gerasimov will be relieved of duty at some point. But he knows everything since he part of the Fifth Column ( Putins inner inner circle) so relieving him will be tricky.

    This is pulled from Telegram:

"Two weeks ago, Lt. Gen. Esedulla Abachev, commander of the State Border Covering Group, deputy commander of the Leningrad Military District, reported to Valery Gerasimov about the preparation of the AFU for an invasion of Kursk region. In response, Gerasimov urged Abachev "not to spread panic" and "not to fall for the enemy's disinformation." Moreover, on the eve of the AFU offensive, Gerasimov withdrew forces and means from this area, which, in his opinion, were not needed there."

⚡️ 𝗜𝗻 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲, 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗴𝗼𝗿𝗼𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

According to the VChK-OGPU source, before the attack, the border in Kursk region was held by: the 2nd Guards Spetsnaz Brigade, Special Forces Brigade from Pskov, Akhmat forces, mobilized, conscripts and even former prisoners.

Shortly before the offensive of the AFU, most of the trained soldiers were transferred to the Belgorod direction to help the "North" group advancing on Kharkiv
That sounds like intentional sabotage by Gerasimov. Even if it wasn't, I don't think he will be alive for much longer.

Haven't seen verified sources yet, but chatter is Gerasimov had been pulled from Kursk operation and replaced by Bortnikov, head of FSB.

It's raised a few eyebrows, because the FSB has no problem in targetin Russians and claim Ukraine responsible. (False flag op)

Russian army is horrible at this tactic... see Zaporhizia NPP fire. They set tires on fire and claimed UAF drone strike. Lol.

    Crazier than fiction.

That's about as unbelievable as claiming Russia blew up their own pipeline.
For some background into paranoia in the old USSR pushed by the KGB which Putin was part of look into the Kirov incident and the Doctors’ Plot.

It is a tire fire. It is a tactic. Clear you have no military training. Why do you think enemies drop flyers against their attackers, why did Japan have broadcast trying to keep American soldiers down during ww2. It is a pschological tactic. The nuclear plant is shut down. Setting up smoke around it to make it look like there is some kind of issue creates unfounded terror to people. Imagine if you saw smoke coming from any kind of chemical or nuclear plant, you would be scared.

So many of the pronouncements by the war supporters have turned out to be wrong.

You can go back to 2022 and even 2023 when the standard DC war fanatics were all pronouncing with their usual tone of unearned authority that the Russian economy and currency would collapse.

Western war propagandists virtually always lie. Almost nothing is less reliable.

LOL- Glen would do you and his readers some justice by actually READING the article - but he "knows his audience" and the headline is enough for them.

its smoke n mirrors- its GOVT spending thats propping them up.

Meanwhile, Russias Central Bank announced this on July 26- interest rate is 18% Inflation over 9%

Its a party alright, just not for ordinary Russians.

Well, one thing is less reliable. Russian economic statistics.

Yeah, as long as the oligarchs perform metaphorical oral ministrations for Putin the party will go on for them.

Glenn was talking about the Economist article and you linked to a different article. Are you confused?

Is The Economist under the control of Putin?

You said it's just smoke in mirrors due to its government spending. Check out the headline of The Economist:

Vladimir Putin spends big - and sends Russia's economy soaring.

How long can the party last

You act like Putin's spending wasn't in the headline.

You said "pronouncements by the war supporters were wrong"

What was wrong exactly? I had to assume you mean "sanctions"

So then i READ the Economist article ( since you clearly didnt ) and then pointed to the smoke and mirrors that the ARTICLE refers to- ONE SEGMENT of GDP- Exports of good ( not including Oil and Gas because those are down-waaaaay down- and wouldnt exactly "fit the narrative " AND THATS FROM SANCTIONS )

Then i followed that with 2 additional reads- one telling you that INFLATION is growing, ( sanctions) and GDP is slowing ( again, sanctions) from Moscow Times and the other letting you know that Russian Central Bank interest rate is 18% - EIGHTEEN PERCENT. not 1.8%. not 10.8% but 18% ( and they are most likely going to 20% by end of year )

    why? Sanctions.

But i dont expect you to read any of that, much less even understand any of that.

You did your fanboi best and posted Greenwalds tweet without even vetting it.

Kinda like Lady Vance now eh? LOLOL

It's a tire fire according to who?

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) experts at Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) witnessed thick dark smoke coming from the north-western area of the plant, after hearing multiple explosions throughout the evening. The team was informed that an alleged drone attack on one of the plant’s cooling towers took place today. There is no impact on nuclear safety, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi confirmed.

The IAEA team reported hearing an explosion today at the same time the ZNPP informed them that a drone had allegedly struck one of the plant's two cooling towers.

In order to ascertain the extent and possible cause of this event, the IAEA Support and Assistance Mission to Zaporizhzhya (ISAMZ) is requesting immediate access to the cooling tower to assess the damage.

ZNPP has two cooling towers located at the northern side of the cooling pond, outside of the ZNPP perimeter. Cooling towers are used during power operation of the plant. Their damage does not directly impact the safety of the six units in shutdown. However, any kind of fire on the site or in its vicinity represents a risk of spreading the fire also to facilities essential for safety.

Reading comprehension is TRULY not your strong suit. NO ONE is calling it a literal "tire Fire". Go back read @Nebaghead post again and this time, take your time.
