Russia continues to mass assets within range of Ukraine - though the official explanations are that they are for various exercises. United States intelligence has noted that Russian operatives in Ukraine could launch 'false flag' operations as a predicate to invasion. The West has pressed for negotiations and on Friday in Geneva, the US Sec. State Blinken will meet with the Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov.

Certainly the Russian movements evidence some plan - but what is it? Some analysts believe that Putin's grand scheme involves securing Western commitments that NATO would never expand beyond its current composition. Whether that means action in Ukraine or merely the movement of pieces on the chess board remains to be seen.

VIENNA — No one expected much progress from this past week’s diplomatic marathon to defuse the security crisis Russia has ignited in Eastern Europe by surrounding Ukraine on three sides with 100,000 troops and then, by the White House’s accounting, sending in saboteurs to create a pretext for invasion.

But as the Biden administration and NATO conduct tabletop simulations about how the next few months could unfold, they are increasingly wary of another set of options for President Vladimir V. Putin, steps that are more far-reaching than simply rolling his troops and armor over Ukraine’s border.

Mr. Putin wants to extend Russia’s sphere of influence to Eastern Europe and secure written commitments that NATO will never again enlarge. If he is frustrated in reaching that goal, some of his aides suggested on the sidelines of the negotiations last week, then he would pursue Russia’s security interests with results that would be felt acutely in Europe and the United States.

There were hints, never quite spelled out, that nuclear weapons could be shifted to places — perhaps not far from the United States coastline — that would reduce warning times after a launch to as little as five minutes, potentially igniting a confrontation with echoes of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

I don't know but I'm expecting an accusation that it was Russia.
It’s been reported that it was a version of ISIS. Pretty widely reported, for that matter. And that the US got wind of the attack and warned Russia two weeks ago, but they ignored us.

Of course you don't know because you haven't received your talking points yet.

Shows just how little you actually know about Moscow and the security apparatus that operates in Moscow. Nothing happens like this, ever.

3 days ago, Putin described our warning as "blackmail".

Today, he said that out warning wasn't "specific enough".

    Well, which was it?

    First video is staged.

As for the Pope, he need to stick to pontificating
Is the Pope working for Putin?

How could someone want the war to stop without working for or supporting Putin? According to you guys, that's not possible.

I'll wear your imaginary accusations as a badge of honor because you continue to prove to all of us where your allegiances lie. Congratulations, yeah?
Your allegiance is to the US war machine as well as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, General Dyanmics, Northrop Grumman, etc.

So they paid 10k and broke the law? Got caught and detained.

Kinda like the southern border, amirite?

As for the Pope he can stick to pontificating. Of all the people to decry war, a religious leader is the LAST person to tell me war is bad. (Something that is obvious)

Wait, you said was staged. Now you sound like you approve of them pulling men off the streets and forcing them to fight.

Is the Pope under control of Putin? Because according to you guys, anyone who criticizes US foreign policy or wants to war to stop supports Putin.

Do you see how idiotic that logic is when you apply it to someone like the pope that you can't smear?

No, as usual you are wrong. Criticize US policy all you want but don’t act like your comments don’t have consequences were they put into place. As for tweets et al that you posted? When they are verified then we can talk about them.
