Russia continues to mass assets within range of Ukraine - though the official explanations are that they are for various exercises. United States intelligence has noted that Russian operatives in Ukraine could launch 'false flag' operations as a predicate to invasion. The West has pressed for negotiations and on Friday in Geneva, the US Sec. State Blinken will meet with the Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov.

Certainly the Russian movements evidence some plan - but what is it? Some analysts believe that Putin's grand scheme involves securing Western commitments that NATO would never expand beyond its current composition. Whether that means action in Ukraine or merely the movement of pieces on the chess board remains to be seen.

VIENNA — No one expected much progress from this past week’s diplomatic marathon to defuse the security crisis Russia has ignited in Eastern Europe by surrounding Ukraine on three sides with 100,000 troops and then, by the White House’s accounting, sending in saboteurs to create a pretext for invasion.

But as the Biden administration and NATO conduct tabletop simulations about how the next few months could unfold, they are increasingly wary of another set of options for President Vladimir V. Putin, steps that are more far-reaching than simply rolling his troops and armor over Ukraine’s border.

Mr. Putin wants to extend Russia’s sphere of influence to Eastern Europe and secure written commitments that NATO will never again enlarge. If he is frustrated in reaching that goal, some of his aides suggested on the sidelines of the negotiations last week, then he would pursue Russia’s security interests with results that would be felt acutely in Europe and the United States.

There were hints, never quite spelled out, that nuclear weapons could be shifted to places — perhaps not far from the United States coastline — that would reduce warning times after a launch to as little as five minutes, potentially igniting a confrontation with echoes of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

I'm just thinking that if he doesn't want to mess with NATO members, we could end this now by admitting Ukraine. Then he would back off, right?
It's funny that the NATO on their border is untenable when there are already NATO countries on their border. Why is Ukraine treated differently by Russia? The lack of awareness of history by Poots blowhards is pretty telling. It's utter nonsense and sounds a lot like the justifications Nazi sympathizers had for Hitler.

Putin wasn't interested in a peaceful resolution.

Indeed. Poots was never serious about peace talks. The 10 point plan was absurd and Poots knew that. For him, nothing less than Ukraine being absorbed into Russia is acceptable. Until he proves otherwise, he has no interest in a reasonable agreement with Ukraine.

Do you think Putin's plan will include attacking NATO countries? What will he do next?
A Putin spokesperson has already floated the idea that Poland belongs to Russia and isn’t really a separate country. I will bet your Putin propagandists never mentioned that did they?

    From earlier this year:

“A top ally of President Vladimir Putin warned Poland on Thursday that the NATO member state was now considered a "dangerous enemy" by Russia and could end up losing its statehood if it continued on its current course.

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, now deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, made the comments in an 8,000-word article on Russian-Polish relations, saying Moscow now had a "dangerous enemy" in Poland.”

He's never attacked any NATO countries before. What makes you think he starts now?

I supposed you, not unlike Trump, believe everything Putin says is truth, right?

That he is more honest than any US politician, right? Any US intelligence, right?

In 1994, Russia promised to NEVER invade Ukraine if it gave up its nuclear weapons. They destroyed all of them.

in Nov 2021- Putin spokesman, Peskov, said no intentions of invading Ukraine.

in Jan 2022, Putin said he had no plans to invade Ukraine.

as late as Feb 18 2022 - just 6 days before full invasion, he once again stated this and that movement of troops was merely " military drills" and "purely defensive"

Yet you take whatever he says at his word?

SFL is just so completely out of touch with reality on this subject. It’s hard to believe an American could be so duped by Russian propaganda. It’s disturbing.

its beyond disturbing at this point and leaves you with only that he is a paid shill for the Russians to consistently pump out propaganda to cause confusion and doubt.

I literally thought his account was a controlled account in the very beginning. I still have my doubts he is fully legit, but im starting to lean that indeed his is and he is just that far down the rabbit hole that he has lost his mental capacity to think things thru. Ill add that he has staked is flag on the hill of disinfo and refuses to acknowledge ANY info that contradicts his stance. For he knows, once he is off that hill, he has lost the ability to shout to the masses. Relegated back to bottom of hill and unheard.
