A couple of days ago, one of the main US-MX border points of entry was blocked by 1000's of migrants demanding entry into the country, which caused chaos for those who lawfully cross the border on business, for work, or for delivery of goods, both ways.

Lawful border crossings are getting progressively worse across the border, and drug cartels are finding it easier to move product, as the CBP has to transfer personnel and efforts to the processing of migrants.

It's not different on MX's South border. Yesterday, ~5000 migrants stormed into Chiapas all the way to the INM building (INM is immigration) running over fences, barricades, and elements of the National Guard. They are now taking over an ecological park in Tapachula, Chiapas, which it's going to be severely affected, as it's been the case with just about everywhere migrants squat.

Unfortunately, Juan Trump (that's Donald Trump's pet name for the President of México) was bamboozled by his "friend" Donald into making MX a "lobby" for migrants trying to reach the U.S.

Many people would argue that migrants are "good for the economy", but that is not always the case. Billions of dollars leave the U.S. economy every year, because migrants send money from the U.S. to other countries to support families there. The biggest destinations are India and MX, to the tune of 100 billion dollars in 2023 alone, according to the Bank of México (kind of like the MX version of the Fed). These billions of dollars do not circulate in the U.S. economy.

Speaking of inflation, the past year, the U.S. dollar has lost ~20% of its value against the MX peso. One of the main reasons for it, is the amount of money being sent to MX from the U.S. And MX is the U.S. 2nd largest trading partner.

Gregg Abbott is a lot of things, but I don't blame him for his attempts at curbing the hordes of people demanding entry into the U.S., even the busing of migrants to other States, making some put their money where their mouth is, like the Mayor of NYC, who was so welcoming of migrants, until he he got a taste, then went crying to the federal government for more money, while the shelters were at full capacity; shelters which BTW serve the NYC poor as well.

And please, no one mention a wall. There is a wall. A wall can be climbed; a wall can be dug under.; holes can be punched through walls.

This is gonna be an absolute shirt show

It's actually pretty smart. MTG has been trying to impeach everyone in the government since the day she took office. She has finally gotten a vote through, so let her have her moment. When she crashes and burns, and the Chief Justice embarrasses her repeatedly for not following the procedures maybe she'll realize how out of her league she is....or maybe some of the voters in Georgia will realize how bad of a selection she was....but, the majority of the country will see her in her glory, displaying her ignorance of everything.

It certainly shows that this will be 100% performative GOP bullshirt. They certainly know there's no chance of conviction so might as well let two of the performers do their thing. But certainly there is risk of looking even more ridiculous and less appealing.

Over the long term, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome H. Powell recently said on CBS News’s “60 Minutes,” “the U.S. economy has benefited from immigration. And, frankly, just in the last year a big part of the story of the labor market coming back into better balance is immigration returning to levels that were more typical of the pre-pandemic era.”
A rise in the number of people ready and willing to work is not the only economic benefit. Immigrants are also associated with other positive growth effects, including higher entrepreneurship rates and disproportionate contributions to science, research and innovation.

edit: I don't know what's going on with threads, but here's the link to the article:

From as early as January 2020, Bannon and Kwok were attempting to spread a narrative alleging that the pandemic was caused by a Chinese bioweapon, both on Bannon’s radio program and on their shared media venture, G News. The Epoch Times followed that April with a documentary that repeated the bioweapon claims, and have taken further opportunities to allege, without basis, that China’s government started the pandemic deliberately.

Why is it that these conspiracy theories meant to forment distrust always targeting dems and aligned w repubs????

Edit: the reason I bring it up is that these conspiracies are prevalent in Asian native language media in the US as well.

The irony is that the Falun Gong community in the US are one of the worst offenders when it comes to immigraiton fraud.

Operation Fiction writer only involved a small part of the large scale fraud that was going on. These attorneys were just the ones that got caught.

Someone would have to think very lowly of everyone immigrating into US from the Mexican border to think that they can't collectively make a net positive contribution to our society.

I don't think very highly of any opinion that thinks an entire group of people are only capable of being a net drain on society. That's the epitome of prejudicial bigotry.

Every group who has settled in the US have been garbage people that no one wanted. It has worked out just fine.

The Pilgrims didn't come here because they were valuable.
    ... and I thought you didn't care...

    And "garbage people"? Interesting.

Yep, nothing but wealthy Ph.D.'s crowding the U.S.-MX border.
Interesting. I take this comment and the elitist brow beating of those others at your swearing in ceremony brag that you (as a child?) and your family all had phd’s when you crossed the border?

Well, the comment was directed to the comments on the tweet.

I don't think my personal story is unique, and not that I need to tell you, but, for the record, I didn't have a Ph.D. when I applied for citizenship when I was 28, but I did have a BBA., which I got from Loyola. First time I came to the U.S. was to go to Disneyworld in the late 70's. I've always flown in and out, except for one time that I was in San Diego and I drove down to Tijuana and back.

I still don't have a PhD., but now I also have a degree in computer science.

The ceremony thing, it wasn't a brag. What it was, I didn't appreciate that the people who were getting naturalized didn't take the time to even learn the National Anthem: show a little freaking loyalty and respect to the country that's allowing you in.

No offense but this entire thread now makes sense.

You see something being given away that you had to earn.

It also explains the prejudice, and outgrouping you do to immigrants/refugees.

This is so hilariously simple, and petty.

Yeah you didn't need to tell me a detailed background. I should apologize, as I should've qualified my comment to be rhetorical.

I don't know about the comments on threads as thread's comments aren't very vibrant atm, so I don't pay much attention to it. The article though is interesting, and the point is made that immigration is a boom for our economy regardless of the skill level. It takes in consideration to managing it properly.

Also, for me, I don't need to wear a flag, or sing every word to the anthem to show my patriotism. I find it ridiculous that someone would do that (wearing the flag) but to each their own. The point is, I dont think those people not doing what you expect makes them any less patriotic. They went through that process.

    I bet.
but this entire thread now makes sense.

I didn't really have to earn anything, other than first applying for residency, then for citizenship. And I don't think citizenships are being given away.

It also explains the prejudice, and outgrouping you do to immigrants/refugees.
Prejudice? Nothing I posted comes from prejudice. If I post a picture or video of migrants destroying Mexican federal property, how is that prejudice? If I point out parks left with piles of trash and feces, is that prejudice? If I comment on migrant blocking major highways in MX and disrupting commerce and people's lives, is that prejudice? if I condemn parents leaving their kids with total strangers to walk 1000-2000 miles alone to 2-3 different countries, is that prejudice?

This is so hilariously simple, and petty.
    It is :hihi:
