Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

Kind of ludicrous that we're discussing this at all given that it was not, in fact, a central part of the Democratic platform, and that the mere fact the topic is still being given such attention is in itself a damning indictment of media influence and people's susceptibility to forming their impressions under its influence and not objectively.

But that said, since we are discussing it...

Are you a physician or employed in the medical field?
Right? I really don't get the attitude. If either of my children turned out to be trans, I would want what's best for them to be determined by them, me, our family, and medical professionals taking into account the circumstances and the best current available knowledge and best practices.

Would anyone in that situation really say, no, they don't want that, they want what's best for their child to be determined by a government that wants to override their own opinion and first hand knowledge of the situation, and the experience, knowledge, and assessment of medical professionals? And maybe it should also be determined by random people who typically seem to have literally no experience or knowledge but have very firm opinions regardless?

I don't think so. So why do people without any knowledge or experience of the subject think they should have any opinions on it at all, let alone firm ones?

Its completely black and white to me. If you are a male, that wants to be a female, you can't play in women's sports. You have an unfair advantage. It completely ruins women's sports. Totally. I don't have a problem with trans people at all. I work with two. They are great people.

Policies to be fair to everyone? There is no fairness to be had with that subject. It's cut and dry. You can throw out any arguement you want to me. If you want it to be fair, we can make all sports gender neutral, and women will become irrelevant in professional sports. So, I have thought about it, and it makes zero sense.
This entire response comes from total ignorance of the subject.

Trans women competing in woman’s sports is absolutely ridiculous. A complete joke. Please explain my ignorance. Do you think Lia Thomas had a right to steal a woman’s ncaa title?? Lia Thomas should be ashamed of herself. She completely wrecked the dreams and hard work women put in to compete and win the title. Her arrogance and selfishness shines through. So if that makes me ignorant. So be it. If you have a penis, you don’t compete with woman in sports. Just because a man thinks he “feels like a woman just doesn’t give him the right to impose his will in an all women’s sporting event. Now, you play some pickup games with trans people, I’m all for it. But when women train to compete against women, and here comes some man imposing his will, I draw the line

When I look at the choices the two political
parties have produced in the last three elections I shake my head in disbelief. Is this really the best two choices the parties can produce for the most important job in the free world? How do you get
lower than the bottom of the barrel? Leave it to either party to find a way.
Can we stop it with this bullshirt argument?

When it was Trump versus Hillary, this argument kinda made sense.

When it was Trump versus Biden, it made less sense, but when he got older and slower, maybe you could make the argument.

When it was Trump versus Kamala, this argument was a joke.

I’ll make you a deal. When we start getting better choices, I will stop using the argument.

It makes sense when you realize that there are so many voters in this country that were convinced by a mentally challenged person that his opponent was mentally challenged, despite her academic accolades! I would not be surprised to learn that trump never graduated HS of his own merit.

This is such a ridiculous argument. It's a forking copout. This was my exact attitude when I was 20. Now I've matured into an adult. I'd be embarrassed to have this mindset in my 60s.

Transgender women may retain a greater heart lung capacity

    06 Oct 2022

According to a study, published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, heart/lung capacity and muscle strength in transgender women exceeds that of their cisgender peers, even after many years of hormone therapy.

You guys are still talking about stuff you do not understand. There is a humongous difference between someone who transitions after puberty and someone who transitions after taking puberty blockers and never actually going through puberty. As far as I know, most sports have rules about women competing who transitioned after puberty. Because yes, once someone goes through puberty the changes can never be totally undone. Various sports are working their way through these issues. We don’t need a sledgehammer to get rid of a fly.

Other than a very very few people, an almost vanishingly small sample, womens’ sports are just not affected. The range of testosterone and other hormones in cis females overlaps with the range in trans women. Remember the Olympic boxer who was shamed, lied about, threatened, etc? Completely cis woman, but because her natural hormone levels made her seem “mannish” to the ignorant, they lied and said she was a man. She was treated shamefully. Happened just this year.

There is a complete load of propaganda about trans people right now. We have read personal accounts on here from people who are members. Children are not treated without extensive counseling, several physician recommendations and parental and patient consent. No adults either for that matter. There are non-permanent treatments that are generally employed first, not without side effects but they can be medically managed.

But if you just outlaw these treatments, these kids are at genuine risk of suicide. Look up the suicide rate for trans kids. Outlawing medical treatment for these kids is going to result in deaths. It’s just another overstep from the GOP in trying to control people, not based on any scientific reasoning, but based on a desire to police other people’s morality.

Wasn’t sure where to put this
    ===================
After the 2020 election, a group of 84 people in seven states signed false documents claiming to be electors for Donald Trump. This year, despite the fact that four states have brought criminal charges against the fake electors, 14 of them will now serve as real electors for the president-elect.

The 14 once-fake-and-now-real electors were selected by state Republican parties in Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Mexico and Nevada. They will meet in their state capitols on 17 December to cast their ballots for Trump.

Prosecutors in many of the states where fake electors signed false documents are moving forward with charges, as the federal charges against Trump for election subversion and other alleged crimes are up in the air after his re-election.

Five of the seven states pursued charges related to the issue. Authorities in New Mexico and Pennsylvania did not pursue charges because the documents the false electors there used hedged language that attorneys said would likely spare them from criminal charges.

The fake electors in some instances are high-profile Republicans: people in elected office, in official party roles, prominent members of external conservative groups.

Here’s where the state cases stand…….

Famous Joe Rogan interview with Matt Walsh, Joe facts check Matt on this issue. We are talking about 1,000 kids a year on puberty blockers

Everyone who actually considered this issue, congrats you were taken in by misinformation and propaganda.

Republicans have proven their base will make ANYTHING a social issue.

When Donald Trump was elected to a second term last week, women who say he sexually assaulted them, and other victims of sexual abuse, voiced disappointment that a man repeatedly accused of sexual misconduct could once again become president, with one of them describing this win as a “gut punch”.

More than two dozen women have made such claims against Trump, including E Jean Carroll, who was awarded nearly $90m total in two civil trials after jurors found that Trump sexually abused and defamed her. She said on X: “I tried to tell you.”

Several survivors of sexual assault interviewed by the Guardian, as well as advocates for persons who have suffered abuse, said they were not surprised by Trump’s win. They felt it was another example of how sexual abuse is not taken seriously, or pointed to the fact that powerful people who perpetrate abuse seem to be able to avoid repercussions.……

Following Trump’s win, the phrase “your body, my choice” – which had circulated in far-right circles for several years – gained momentum on social media. The Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD), a thinktank that studies extremism, identified “a 4,600% increase in mentions of the terms ‘your body, my choice’ and ‘get back in the kitchen’ on X”.

Gloria Allred, who in her decades as an attorney has advocated for survivors, including five Trump accusers, said: “a theme of the former president’s recent campaign appeared to be male chauvinism” and referred to the American Psychological Association guidance that recognizes “traditional masculinity is psychologically harmful” to men and boys.

But, “I believe that women and girls will also suffer from this version of toxic masculinity, and they are endangered by it. Evidence of this is now seen online where some young men seem comfortable saying ‘your body, my choice’, which could be the mantra of rapists, sexual harassers and child molesters,” Allred said in a statement.

“I wonder how these young men would feel if other men decided that they had a right to rape, beat or abuse the bodies of the young men’s mothers, sisters, aunts or grandmothers,” Allred’s statement continued. “My guess is that when these young men get older and have daughters they will regret their words.”

Mariann Wang, an attorney whose practice focuses on survivors who has also represented Trump accusers, said his win was “devastating”.

“It is an expression, yet again, that millions of people do not prioritize the safety of their mothers, their sisters, their daughters or their friends,” she said in a statement.……

What exactly do you do in the medical field? - because I do too (or did, as I am retired now).

My experience was in laboratory science. I have a bachelor degree level background in human biology and a fair understanding about how hormones work and the normal ranges in humans for hormones. My specialty was in blood transfusions, and the antigen-antibody reactions to blood transfusions.
