Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

Well then, keep losing elections because you can't figure out why people aren't voting for you. Pointing fingers isn't gonna change a damn thing.
I'm not saying that's wrong but if a not insignificant part of why people aren't voting for you is because they are racist, sexist, believe misinformation and are hateful, where do you go from there?

So the carpenters union in NY follows suit and will only endorse a person under certain circumstances. They said if Harris got a majority vote from the carpenters they would endorse her, if Trump got 💯 they would endorse him. Trump was closer to getting the endorsement than her.
I'm very pro union (and greatly dislike big corp's tactics to squash them), so it is just bewildering when there is a history of anti union behavior from republicans.

    I agree with this.

This board is so far outside of the norm of most Americans.

"Did Joe Biden dropout?" surged yesterday as a google trend.

I'm not going to hold these people up as anything other then what they are though. Idiots.
I posted before about people I knew who didn't know Biden dropped out weeks later

But to not know yesterday is a whole different kind of scary/stupid

Well, if we don't do any self-reflection, then we'll be in the same place 4 years from not...possibly.

That said, it's also possible that people with realize they made a mistake in voting for Trump when they see the mess the Republicans make, and I have no doubt it will be a huge mess.

Dave, you have to be joking, you really believe this? If it didn't happen in his 1st disastrous administration, what makes you think it will happen this time around?

I would wager most of the folks voting for Trump would never admit or ever do anything but do the same no matter how bad things get......you are under the assumption that most folks are reasonable/rational when in fact, they are cult followers.....this is an indictment of our own electorate.....

Donald Trump - the twice impeached former president, Jan. 6 coup leader, convicted felon, adjudicated sexual abuser, and man who mismanaged the 2020 economic implosion and coronavirus disaster that killed more than 1 million people in this country - has convinced American voters to give him another term in the White House.

After a campaign marked by nativism, open bigotry, and aspiring authoritarianism, Trump triumphed over Vice President Kamala Harris, despite being denounced by several of those who worked most closely with him in his first term as a "fascist." The 45th president will become the 47th in late January.

Trump got out to an early lead on Tuesday and never looked back, securing North Carolina and Georgia before shattering the Democratic "blue wall" of Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. The race was called at 5:35 a.m. EST by the Associated Press after Trump earned 270 electoral college votes by winning Wisconsin.

Trump declared victory to a packed crowd of jubilant supporters at the Palm Beach convention center, promising a "golden age" for the nation while surrounded by his family and closest allies, He added toward the end of his characteristically rambling speech that his win was "a massive victory for democracy and freedom," and that "many people have told me that God spared my life for a reason."

"I will govern by a simple motto, promises made, promises kept," Trump said.

The stakes of a Trump victory could not be higher for many of the most vulnerable people living in this country. Trump's central campaign promise has been to embark on the largest mass-deportation program in the nation's history, a supercharged version of a racist Eisenhower-era program called "Operation Wetback." Trump has promised to forcibly remove millions, and said that it will be a "bloody story." He has vowed to employ local law enforcement, sheriffs, and, if necessary, the armed forces.

Trump has also vowed to use the Justice Department as an instrument of revenge on his political enemies, to crack down on media outlets that have criticized him, to hollow out the professional ranks of the federal government (and stock it full of his MAGA cronies), and to impose massive tariffs that will increase the cost of everything from avocados and automobiles to iPhones and apparel...............

America deserves Trump. we are a stupid nation, and we need to get our arses kicked to stop being so stupid. Do you have any suggestions on how soon Vace will take over?
Stated earlier, but Trump probably won't make it to 2028. He's 78 and weighs over 300Lbs. He's also suffering from Dementia.

I agree. It's the ugly reality right now that the only way for the Democrats to win a Presidential election is a good looking, charismatic white guy. I mean Biden wasn't exactly charismatic, but he checked a lot of other boxes. That said, he wasn't gonna win this election because reasons.

Obama was the exception, not the rule. And I voted for Obama. But the odds of that happening again in 2028 is pretty low.

The USA hasn't changed the way I hoped. If anything, we're going the wrong direction.

what civil liberties? I think we as a country have been pretty progressive over the last 20/30 years when it comes to certain minorities and groups. I saw, and I’ll try to find it, that Trump did better with Latinos, African Americans and LGBQT than he did last election. I’d love to understand your fears.
Look we all want the same thing. There aren’t many policies we differ on wanting, it just how we get there is what’s difficult

This has a very familiar vibe to it......the "there's no way they are going to do what they say they are going to do".....until they do....

We don't all want the same thing.....the Trump administration wants to create a Christian nationalist state, further stripping rights from women and marginalizing anyone who is not a white Christian male....is that what you want?

Or do you believe there is just "no way" they try to implement their master plan, there are no more guard rails like there were in 2016......

Checking in to say my gut feeling was right. The country spoke. Loudly.

Reflecting, I wish Trump had won re-election in 2020 rather than this. We could've bypassed the election denial and January 6th. Trump would have had to deal with the massive inflation instead of Biden (inflation was a certainty after COVID and the stimulus payments). The country may not have gotten so divided. I dunno.....I'm just bummed a man with Trump's character and morals dominated this election.

It's a sad reality. There are so many on the right who say about marginalized groups, "You don't matter"

And the sad reality of the future from our own side may be, "You matter...........but you can't represent us and we aren't going to talk about you as much. Vote blue!"

You were right and I was very wrong. I hopefully and ignorantly thought America had matured "enough" after the last election. What can I say, I guess I'm just like the rest of Americans, ignorant and stupid.

If that's the way Democrats choose to react, then they'll lose my vote too. And they aren't getting the vote back on the right. Tread carefully.

Yep. I don't know how we get around that. Sad state we're in.

What do they "feel"? It's blaming economic plight on an outgroup via propaganda vs internal policies.

This is making the argument that young men, and America's in general wouldn't fall for propaganda, or tiktok memes.

That's hilarious honestly. They are exactly that dumb.

    so much this.

Social Media experiment is over. ITs no longer a hypothesis- its theory. And its the most effective and efficient way to influence young people.

the psychology of "keeping up with the Joneses" used to be relegated to your street in your neighborhood. ( what you see/hear )

Its now nationwide/world wide , thanks to Social Media.

25 years ago folks didnt know what their High School/College acquaintances were up to or amounted to.

Now? folks are bombarded with thru whatever social media platform and reminded " wait he/she doin BETTER than me? HOW? what the heck ?!?!? " and the process of aggrievance begins.

    its a !@#!@#!@#@ mess.

I'll say it. A black woman diminished her chances…..

Learn to sell the victories and don’t run terrible female cardboard cutout candidates.

I think we need to start with a sincere acceptance of responsibility and apology for all the mass human rights and mass murder we collectively inflicted on others to build this country. Until we do that, our society will continue to rot and decay from the karma of our past actions as a society.

Weak. Stuff like this is why men voted Trump.

Dems need to stop apologizing for stuff, talking patriarchy/white guilt, and go to male spaces selling policies that make their lives better. They passed IRA and CHIPs both of which will employ millions of men, but are too afraid to sell that.

and the further sad reality: if that reaction brings back enough of the 20 million who voted for Biden but not Harris that will probably be more than enough to overcome lost votes

Which means they won't really care about the lost votes

I mean, the Democrats don't have a choice though. At least not in the short term. Their coalition isn't sufficient enough unless you have someone who can hold that coalition together. If a lot of people are going to quit the party or sit out for the reasons you describe, I don't think they'll win again anytime soon.
