Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

So, I don’t have any way to know if this is accurate because I haven’t seen it covered on the news, but I saw a tweet that Teamster locals representing the majority of teamsters nationwide have broken with the national president and endorsed Harris. So he just looks like he’s MAGA or been bought. 🤡
yea, i don't understand why someone would endorse a guy who's party would love nothing more than to bust every single union in this country.

Below is a good article that may answer some of your questions. The teamsters are different than most unions. They've endorsed
Republicans in the past and also not endorsed a candidate from either party in the past.

I get so sick of people saying they endorse Trump's policies, but hardly ever tell you what policies they endorse. Is it the mass deportation? Is it the tax cuts that mostly go to the wealthiest? Is it cutting aid to Ukraine? Is it eliminating climate regulations? Is it getting rid of Obamacare? Is it his policy of retribution? Is his anti-DEI policy? Is it his waffling on abortion rights?
The reporters should ask

Donald Trump’s sweeping threats if he wins the presidency again to name a special prosecutor to “go after” Joe Biden and take legal action against other foes would subvert the rule of law in America and take the country towards authoritarianism, former justice department officials and scholars have warned.

Trump’s escalating legal threats have targeted “corrupt election officials” lawyers, donors and others he falsely deems out to steal November’s presidential election, and have popped up variously on his Truth Social platform, at campaign events and at an elite police group he addressed this month in North Carolina.

Trump’s menacing pledges to essentially weaponize the justice department against opponents would mark a sharp break with the Department of Justice’s mission statement, which cites as core values “independence and impartiality”.

Ex-justice officials warn that Trump’s barrage of intimidating verbal assaults are unprecedented, and suggest he would undermine longstanding traditions of justice department independence if he wins the presidency, thus badly undermining the rule of law.

“Donald Trump is making many public threats to use the legal system to punish his enemies, which seems to be anyone who opposes him,” said the former deputy attorney general Donald Ayer, who served in the George HW Bush administration. “This conduct is utterly without precedent in campaign history, threatens all of our freedoms, and violates our basic rule of law.”

Other justice veterans raise similar red flags.

“Trump’s escalating threats to pervert the criminal justice system need to be taken seriously,” said the former justice department inspector general Michael Bromwich. “We have never had a presidential candidate state as one of his central goals mobilizing the levers of justice to punish enemies and reward friends. No one has ever been brazen enough to campaign on an agenda of retribution and retaliation.”

Critics note that Trump and top allies at the conservative Heritage Foundation, which produced a far-right blueprint for a new Trump administration dubbed Project 2025, have signaled plans to overhaul the justice department to give the president and loyalists more power in decisions about who to investigate and prosecute…..

…….Trump knows in his bones that his supporters will believe anything he says. If he ever feels they will abandon him, he cannot shoot somebody on Fifth Avenue.

He does not require any evidence, not even spectral, to trigger their need to demonstrate unswerving faith.

Once he speaks, declaring miracles, he is certain his supporters will fall to their knees.

And, mirabile dictu, a majority, 52%, say it’s true that “Haitian immigrants are abducting and eating pet dogs and cats,” according to a post-debate YouGov poll.

Only 5% are willing to confess the heresy that it is “definitely false”, while 25% are agnostically “unsure”.

Trump’s lie about “eating pet dogs and cats” is his best-polling lie. It polled nine points better among his supporters than his lie that “in some states it is legal to kill a baby after birth”. It polled 24 points better than his lie that “public schools are providing students with sex-change operations” and 44 points better than his lie that “noise from wind turbines has been shown to cause cancer.”

The raw numbers dictated the emphasis of his fiction.

The illogic of his demagogy gives Trump no pause. He has railed that immigrants are stealing “Black jobs”. He says the Haitians of Springfield are illegal. But they are in fact legal and of course black. They are the black people usurping the “Black jobs”.

Trump knew before he uttered his lie in the debate about “eating pets” that it was untrue. The morning of the debate, according to the Wall Street Journal, Senator JD Vance of Ohio, Trump’s running mate, had a staffer call the office of the Springfield city manager.

“He asked point-blank, ‘Are the rumors true of pets being taken and eaten?’” that official, Bryan Heck, told the Journal. “I told him no. There was no verifiable evidence or reports to show this was true. I told them these claims were baseless.”

Rather than debunk the rumor he had been informed was untrue, Vance spread the falsehood immediately. “Reports now show that people have had their pets abducted and eaten by people who shouldn’t be in this country. Where is our border czar?” he tweeted, pinning the blame for the presence of the Haitian community, which had settled in the town a decade earlier, on Harris, who was incidentally not the “border czar”.

Within a half-hour of Vance’s post, the Springfield News-Sun reported that police stated that there were no incidents of pets being stolen or eaten and that the story was “not something that’s on our radar right now”.

Trump repeated the lie in the debate and kept repeating it. His incitement was followed by 33 bomb threats that shut down schools, hospitals and municipal buildings in Springfield.

The town’s CultureFest was cancelled. Classes at Clark State College and Wittenberg University were suspended because of bomb threats. (Wittenberg was founded in 1845 at Springfield by devout German-American abolitionists. The last time classes were suspended there was for the send-off of a volunteer military company of students to fight for the Union in the civil war. When Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, the school held a day of prayer and fasting in celebration.)……..

Unfortunately, I think the answer to all your questions is “yes”.

The Head Liar’s Game is unadulterated power and is the fight of our lives is to save our country as we know it.
His policies and appeal are five fold, racism/xenophobia combined with deregulation for perceived economic advantage (while ignoring all the costs to us and our environment) that includes strong overtones of male sexism, faux-theism, and is so extreme as to threaten the foundations of the Nation.

Most of his co-conspirators are in it for the power that comes with $$$. His Minions perceive racially based economic advantage and the Christian Nationalists see a USA Theocracy, all of them attacking our democracy and civil rights to achieve their individual goals which are all based on the dark/selfish/ignorant side of human nature,

What Donny has achieved is that his corrupt appeal is so strong, (but appears to be slipping) that he has shown us where liberalism has been ineffective against capitalism and has failed the masses, but mostly the former members of a strong middle class that has been consumed by Capitalism based greed.

However in liberalism’s defense, it is beyond me how disenfranchised people can vest themselves in a con man and not think they, themselves are being conned.

It can easily be argued that the core of our problem is ourselves. We are so flawed when it comes to self interests, 1/3 to 1/2 of Americans instead of going with the liberal idea of sharing and group effort to get ahead, prefer to vest themselves in a known incompetant, immoral, corrupt, self destructive, mentally ill threat to our overall well-being because they think they personally will benefit at others expense.

Fascism? To this Trumpian group, without a thought of the double edged nature of forcing your will on others, if necessary violently, they seem good with cheating to win which basically will destroy us if it continues and is sucsseful. It will take a majority of us to push these ideas back. 🤔

Unfortunately, I think the answer to all your questions is “yes”.
I know the answer is yes, but they should be pushed to answer that, so everyone knows they support despicable and/or deplorable policies. Almost all of those policies are very unpopular, and if they had to admit to supporting those policies, it would hurt them, but they are allowed to hide behind a generic statement about supporting his policies, even if they don't support his behavior. In addition, Trump doesn't have any details to implement almost any of his policies, especially the worst, like the mass deportation, which will require vast civil liberty abuses. If people realized the vast raids and terrifying environment it would create, not to mention the disruption to communities and businesses all over the nation, I think they wouldn't support it, but he says it, and many cheer in ignorance.

Oh, I agree. The media has blame. The talking heads have blame. The electorate has much blame. While I can’t say that Trump is responsible for the state of our politics since this has been going on since at least Reagan I will say Trump accelerated it to warp speed.

There is a guy at our church who says he is a conservative. I doubt that he can articulate what that actually means but I intend to ask him in a non-confrontational manner.

The only aspect of traditional conservatism that can be associated with Trump is lower income taxes, but Trump essentially wants higher taxes via tariffs. There probably isn’t a single aspect of traditional conservatism that can be supported by Trump’s policies. I think Reagan is nearly the polar opposite of Trump.

there man that's divided the country to the max and is not christian is going to do this? I love the christian they interviewed thinking it will be great. Christians can't even unify themselves how would they unify anything else?

This is religionist warfare. Jews and Muslims need not apply. Mainstream Protestants not sufficiently conservative or conservative at all? Back of the bus.

And the impact on foreign relations? Don’t even think about it.

You mix politics and religion and you get politics.
