Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

The amount of cognitive dissonance required to make the leap to "he is just lying to win the election....he doesn't really believe that" is pretty frickin staggering.

So now, mentally, they are in a situation where when they agree with him it's all good and when they don't agree with him it's all good because he is lying and secretly agrees with me....lol. that is really just shocking. CHOOSING to be hoodwinked is something new I think. I hope someone somewhere is doing an academic study on this stuff.
I don't think they believe Trump agrees with them, but they do believe that Trump will continue to serve their cause to outlaw abortions.

What makes a Christian, any Christian, superior to hold the office than a Jew, Muslim, Hindi or any other believer or non-believer?

I would like to see the so-called pro-life movement actually give a crap about babies after they are born.

and as far as I know none of the Jews, Muslims, Hindis etc. that have been elected to various offices here have ever tried to force their religious views and morals on everyone else

Exactly....they think he will lie to get elected but once in office uphold their ideals. So now he can literally say and do anything and it's OK for them....if they don't agree then he is just lying to trick voters and get elected.

I’m sure this has been covered but for reinforcement purposes: 🙃
DJT’s Arlington stunt. I’m a veteran who can spot a threat to the Nation, and it did’nt require barging into and politicizing the National Cemetery to convince voters he does not regard fallen heroes as suckers.

Isn’t one of the issues the other tombstone in the photo that they didn’t have permission to photograph? Trump cannot look solemn to save his life.

You are, of course, free to live by whichever myths you choose, and under whatever restrictions and fears you wish to adopt for yourself, but I don’t believe in normalizing these claims anymore in discussions about governance and policy.
The quote above was probably not focusing on my Christian faith but it included the word "myths" and that word "myths" reminded me that there are a couple of atheists on these forums. I felt a nudge from God to stop selecting clothes for my suitcase and start selecting videos for the atheists. IF you are not one of those @Incumbent then I apologize for using your quote as a springboard for my post here...and if you are an unbeliever then these videos are for you AND for anyone else who wishes to view them.
NOW I REALLY have to get ready to leave for a 3 day getaway weekend.
    Here are some videos.
Check out the last three first. I wished I had stacked them at the top.

I’m not an expert on the protocol, but it’s been reported this section of the cemetery was off limits for politics, and that what Trump did could be a violation of Federal law.

Yes. Trump has gotten away with saying and doing anything he wants. He constantly changes his opinions, so no one knows what he believes. If he says something that would cause him to lose votes, his supporters either say it was a joke, or twist themselves in knots to explain it away, or point to another speech in which he says the opposite. It's foolish for anyone to trust Trump, but he's hoping he can fool more pro-choice voters into believing that he will not use Federal laws to restrict abortion, than he will lose evangelicals who believe that he will not use Federal laws to restrict abortion, but neither knows what he will really do. What we do know is that most of his supporters are anti-abortion rights, and will pressure him to use Federal laws like the Comstock Act, to further restrict abortions, and to nominate more anti-abortion justices, so I understand why evangelicals shrug-off Trump's latest comments. They think they have him under control regardless of what he says or does. I think what they may not realize is that he may no longer need them if he gets re-elected, so he's a total wildcard. The problem for evangelicals is that he may be their last great hope. He's their hail Mary attempt to get abortion outlawed. They foolishly tied their hitch to a wild card, rather than a true believer.

Just because some rules sound good does not mean they were God given. As far as my faith, I have nothing specific to cite, I am spiritually oriented, but I’m definietly not going with the Moldy Old Book. ;) That’s why I’m agnostic. I believe there is something more, but I can’t say what specifically, and I’m good with that. Happy to discuss it more… if you want to. :)

Has anything been done about the Arlington thing other than a sternly worded letter?

It's distressing to learn that we are either unable, or unwilling to protect our fallen from being used as props for commercials.

Trump et al have figured how to hide their actions behind the vail of doing ANYTHING to penalize is " election interference" .

Same in any competition that has penalties- its not a penalty if not enforced. ( Lookin at you 2018 NFCCG lol )

Now Trump is blaming the family.

So I follow some evangelicals on Twitter. Most of them are quite ready to ignore Trump’s pro-choice statements as a tactic to win the election. There are some anti-Trump evangelicals, and they are not surprised about his flip flop on abortion because they have always seen him as unprincipled. I do think he will lose a % of the evangelical vote, probably a small % maybe single digit sized. Every little bit helps though. They have been some of his strongest supporters.

the fever is growing among the evangelicals.

    No.

I’m not sure how you inferred from my post that this was a good idea, but I don’t need to be preached to about teachings I’ve been around my entire life and for a time, believed.

But the point you missed is that I think the role that religion has played, in shaping right wing political beliefs, has been harmful to American governance, especially when that has adhered to a manipulation of religion that is antithetical, in so many ways, to what is known about the teachings of Christ. It was wrong to normalize that and it’s wrong to not push back against it.

I believe if there is a void in knowledge that could be filled, that would be to challenge what you have accepted about Christianity, but I don’t believe you want to consider that (and this isn’t the conversation for that, anyway).

OH' I don't see it as such. Right wing evaluation always says ir is as such. It isn't so, so I ignore it. What's been good for 60 years is alright with me.
I prefer we not engage in nation building, rigging elections (both foreign and domestic), over spending, using tax money to fund the military industrial complex and corporations, governmental over reach and spying on private citizens, and spending money on another countries infrastructure and people over our own. These are just basic. That would be good with me.
