Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

Exactly. It’s definitely bad faith and hypocritical. Trump still doesn’t have policy positions, really. His platform says stuff like - I will direct my cabinet to lower inflation. No shirt Sherlock. How will they do that? By clicking their ruby red slippers together 3 times?
I think he’ll do that nose twitch trick Samantha used to do on Bewitched.

Sitting state GOP legislator endorsing Harris. May the floodgates open.

Harris should also hammer Cheato on what a pitiful, bush league operation he runs. They just simply *suck* at their jobs.
Remember Four Seasons? They actually held the damn press meeting at a GARDEN SHOP. Remember Covid? In the richest nation on Earth we had nurses and doctors re-using freaking FACE MASKS because Cheato's Administration was so utterly inept.
Remember the "Muslim ban"? And how all it really did was ruin the week of a bunch of airport employees because Cheato had no freaking *clue* how any of this works?
It's not just policy, it's not just mean spiriritedness, it's laughable incompetence, too. Cheato is a joke, a sick, pathetic joke.

You are so wrong MT15. How did you forget "NO TAX ON TIPS"

Oh, yeah. I was still at the hospital at that time. We were issued small brown paper bags - and instructed how to take off our paper surgical masks each evening and place them in the bags to be reused. We couldn’t even get N-95’s for quite a while. We only threw out the paper surgical masks if they got splashed or wet in some way.

It was everyone at the hospital, not just doctors and nurses. A lot of healthcare workers died in NYC for sure because of it. Especially housekeeping - they had to do the terminal cleans on rooms where patients died or were discharged. Often with subpar PPE and not enough training to be sure they were using them properly.

Trump didn’t give a single shirt about any health care workers. The feds sat on N-95’s and didn’t send them out.

I had been following the Covid thread on Sr.com EE board since day 1.

Early Feb when it was becoming quite clear this was going to be a real issue, and my sister living in Florence Italy at the time (and unaware of Covid until too late and Italy locked down), I had amassed about 100 N95 masks. ( I went all over buying what was available the first week of Feb...never forget. Ppl at Walmart and HD would look at me like I was nuts. One week later, they were off the shelves )

I also had p100s. I ended up gifting 50 N95s to good friends of ours who were working in local hospitals that had NO ACCESS to n95s. One is CRNA who was intubating folks every day and I couldn't believe they had no n95s.
Sent 25 to my sister in Italy which took 6 weeks to arrive ! Crazy crazy times.

Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson in a new interview said she is “prepared as anyone can be” for the possibility that this year’s presidential election could end up before the high court.

“I think there are legal issues that arise out of the political process,” Jackson said during an interview with CBS’s Norah O’Donnell.

“And so, the Supreme Court has to be prepared to respond — if — if that should be necessary,” she added.

Jackson’s rare interview comes as she prepares to release her memoir, “Lovely One,” next week. An interview excerpt will air on Tuesday’s “CBS Evening News” before the full sit-down is broadcast this weekend on “CBS News Sunday Morning,” according to the network.

“Are you prepared that this election could end up before the Supreme Court?” O’Donnell asked the justice.

“As prepared as anyone can be,” Jackson responded, before laughing. “Let me ask you, are you prepared for all of the news cycles that you’re getting as a result of this election?”

O’Donnell replied, “Um, no.”………

Anyone living in Georgia to give insight into what the hell is going on?
His polling hasn't changed since Aug 1. He looks to be capped out at 43-44 on most polling sites. RFK Jr. removing himself from swing states may change that significantly. Trump could pick up 2-3%. The pollsters have to start running new polls for head-to-head and Harris/Trump/West/Stein.

Also, West and Stein not pulling out of swing states is a disservice. They are GOP backed with petitions at Trump campaign stops and GOP consultants/money.
CNN just interviewed West. I was always intrigued by him early in my collegiate career. Now, I see him as a kook. He truly believes some of the stuff he says and there's nothing wrong with that. But what makes me lose the remaining respect I have for him... He knows of the potential harm he could do to Harris in the swing states he's on the ballot like Wisconsin. And he doesn't care. I firmly believe his hatred of the Democratic party, particularly over Gaza, outweighs his crusade to speak the truth.

He pretty much called Harris a sellout. :jpshakehead:

...and that doesn't serve the country.
Nothing serves the country better than the truth and seeing the truth of who Trump is best done by his microphone not being muted during the debate.

...because Trump won't follow the rules.
This is exactly why his microphone should not be muted.

The most important thing for Americans to see in the debate is just how terrible a person Trump is, so his microphone should not be muted. What you want would help Trump hide who he is. That's a bad thing and does a disservice to our country. Keep that snake Trump out in the open under a high noon sun. Do not let him slither into the cover of the grass and shadows to hide who he is.

You seem to be operating from a place of trying to make things normal. There is no normal to be had with anything involving Trump and that needs to be fully and constantly exposed for everyone to see. We have to make decisions grounded in the reality as it is. It's a mistake to make decisions based on how we wished reality were.

I find some of the political strategy interesting.

Harris is positioning herself as the change candidate, somewhat, which is interesting b/c she's part of the current administration. But she's banking on how unlikeable Trump is, and she is still a fresh face. And although she's 60, she is just clearly younger, more coherent and put together than Trump or Biden. To that end, giving detailed policy speeches or long interviews with the media doesn't help her much. The less she can be nailed down to certain positions, the more people can project on her what they want... and not alienate people who might not like certain policies she may endorse.

This is not a bad strategy b/c Trump himself is notoriously light on policy. There was the Project 2025 policy, which is probably something of a template that Trump's administration will try to push through, but it's enormoulsy unpopular and Trump is trying to run away from it. SFL tried to post policies, but all that was, was a list of things he'd like to see happen without actual policies on how to make that happen. So, this race doesn't really come down to a policy/wonkish choice.

We generally know what they'll do though. Trump will push for more tax cuts, specifically skewed to the wealthy, less regulation (including environmental protections), probably less support for Ukraine, probably less pushback on authoritarian regimes and less emphasis on multilateral alliances, attempted mass deportations. Harris will push for tax hikes on wealthy and corporations, not sure on her emphasis on climate change, but will probably keep what is in place now. She'll probably continue the Democrats shift away from a friendly immigration policy to something more like what they had 15 years ago.

Something along those lines.

She's also shifted from making Trump seem threatening, and more pointing out how ridiculous he is. It definitely annoys him more, and probably erodes some of the support he gets from people who want a tough guy president. It's hard to imagine that when you laugh at him and then point out how he just whines like a hormonal teenager.
It's logical. When someone has won elections running on just their personality, then oppose them on the grounds of personality. Harris-Walz are emphasizing to Americans that they are the much better personality choice for the overwhelming majority of Americans. Their policy goals are presented in a way that reinforces their personality traits of fair, kind, protective, compassionate, resilient and perseverant. Their campaign is the most positively synergistic campaign I've ever seen. Trump's campaigns have been the most negatively synergistic campaigns I've ever seen.

Harris-Walz are making that contrast abundantly clear to everyone and the vast majority of Americans are making it abundantly clear that we want the light, not the dark.

Jesse Watters has tried to shrug off his sexually suggestive comments that generals “would have their way” with Kamala Harris if she is elected president.

The Fox News host has faced enormous backlash for his remarks during Monday’s episode of The Five, with some viewers calling for him to be fired.

On Tuesday night’s show, Watters addressed the furore directly, claiming the comment has been “misconstrued” and was not intended to be sexual.

“There’s been some attention to comments I made on the show yesterday about VP Harris,” he said.

“People are misconstruing my comments to mean something inappropriate.

“I wasn’t suggesting anything of a sexual nature. I was expressing my opinion that vice president Harris’s current leadership style could be an issue if elected.”

On Monday’s show, the hosts were discussing Harris’s foreign policy and the US’s Afghanistan withdrawal in August 2021 – on what marked the third anniversary of the chaotic withdrawal.

During the discussion, Watters made an unsavory comment about the womancampaigning to become America’s first female president.

“What is her foreign policy? This is where the president has the most impact,” Watters asked.

“We don’t know who she is, we don’t know what she believes. She’s going to get paralyzed in the situation room while the generals have their way with her.”

Watters’s co-host Jeanine Pirro quickly condemned his comments, saying: “I don’t like that. Take it back.”

Dana Perino also waded in, highlighting her disapproval by saying Watters’ name in full.……
