Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

This is pretty dumb, IMO. Apparently Vance told MTP today that if Congress passes a national abortion ban Trump would veto it. No women will believe this. We’ve been gaslit and lied to so much that this won’t gain them any votes to my way of thinking because we know it’s meaningless. However, this may well depress his base and keep them from coming out. What do you all think?

I don't believe a word coming out of his mouth, but even if they were sincere, the fact is they've already done the damage. "Returning it to the states" is exactly why reproductive rights is such a salient issue now.

Deep down, they'd prefer women couldn't vote.
    Uhhhh... Deep down? I disagree.

Walton and Johnson used to say that all the time, not even jokingly...i think most GOP feel that way.

Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign says it has now raised $540m for its election battle against Donald Trump.

The vice-president’s campaign has had no problems getting supporters to open their wallets since Joe Biden announced on 21 July he was ending his run for re-election to the White House and quickly endorsed Harris.

The campaign said it saw a surge of donations during last week’s Democratic national convention in Chicago where Harris and her vice-presidential running mate, Minnesota governor Tim Walz, accepted their nominations.

“Just before vice-president Harris’ acceptance speech Thursday night, we officially crossed the $500m mark,” the campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon wrote in a memo released by the campaign on Sunday. “Immediately after her speech, we saw our best fundraising hour since launch day.”

Trump has also proved to be a formidable fundraiser but appears to be outpaced in her month-old campaign. The Republican nominee and former president’s campaign announced earlier this month that, alongside its related affiliates, they had raised $138.7m in July – less than what Harris took in during her candidacy’s opening week. Trump’s campaign reported $327m in cash on hand at the start of August.…..

A dozen lawyers who worked under Republican presidents have signed a letter endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris, saying that another Trump presidency would "threaten American democracy and undermine the rule of law in our country."

In the letter, obtained by Scripps News, the lawyers said they couldn't go along with other former Republican officials who won't endorse Trump's reelection campaign yet also aren't willing to vote for Harris. They called this election a "binary choice," with the one in their party being "utterly disqualified."

"Accordingly, we choose to cast our votes for Kamala Harris to prevent returning to office someone who was guilty of grave wrongdoing to our Constitution, democracy, and rule of law, and who remains unfit, dangerous, and detached from reality," the letter said.…….

Evangelicals are mainstreaming the idea - in fact some churches tell wives they must vote as their husband instructs them. That’s why Vance could propose that couples be awarded extra votes for each child and never address which parent gets the extra votes - because they already believe women should only vote as instructed by their husbands. And presumably by their fathers before they are married.

Trump is now hinting he may not debate on ABC - he floated that in a social media post tonight saying that ABC wouldn’t be fair, lol. He’s such a whiny little man.

So it looks like Harris may be having a town hall all by herself on Sep 10. Which would be great!

Also, Harris-Walz are funneling campaign money to down ballot Democrats, while Trump is funneling campaign money to his wallet via his businesses. Harris-Walz and down ballot Democrats have more money to spend on campaigning than Trump and down ballot Republicans.

Donald Trump’s campaign remains jittery about the prospect of a power struggle inside the inner circle that could become a major distraction just months until the 2024 election, even if the jockeying for influence by top officials has ended with a truce, according to people familiar with the matter.

The momentary power play among the senior advisers is widely seen to be over, for now, after the 2016 campaign chief, Corey Lewandowski, distanced himself from suggestions he was returning to the fold to run the campaign and the current leadership remained in their roles. (Lewandowski was brought on the current campaign as an adviser.)

But there has been trepidation that if the Trump campaign hits more rough patches in the race against Vice-President Kamala Harris, any disagreements for instance on strategy between Lewandowski and the current chiefs, Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, could cause a blow-up, the people said.

The concern is apparently less to do with uncertainty about who would prevail – Trump has repeatedly expressed faith in Wiles and LaCivita, who come as a package deal – and more the distraction when Harris has drawn roughly level in key swing state polls with 70 days until the election……..

As Donald Trump emerged to a thunderous roar of approval in the heart of Pennsylvania’s Rust belt, he was back in his comfort zone among the people who once put him in power.

But by the time he stepped off the stage nearly two hours later, even some of the former US president’s supporters were wondering whether his rallies are doing his re-election campaign more harm than good.…..

Trump repeatedly broke away from the prepared speech about economics to make rambling claims that Harris was both a fascist and a communist, to attack her laugh as that of “a crazy person” and a “lunatic”, and to claim he was more beautiful than the vice-president. He also spent time debating aloud with himself how to pronounce the name of the CNN anchor Dana Bash.

By the time he stopped speaking 100 minutes later, a large number of the arena’s 8,000 seats had emptied……

Elizabeth Warren says “American women are not stupid” enough to believe JD Vance’s promise that Donald Trump would veto any nationwide abortion ban passed by Congress if the Republican presidential ticket wins November’s election.

“American women are not stupid, and we are not going to trust the futures of our daughters and granddaughters to two men who have openly bragged about blocking access to abortion for women all across this country,” Warren said Sunday on NBC’s Meet the Press.

The Democratic senator from Massachusetts added that she suspects conservative activists could use the Comstock Act, a 19th-century anti-obscenity law which bans mailing abortion-related materials, to enforce a federal ban on abortion if the former president clinches a second presidency with Vance as his running mate.

She said it would not be all that “hard to accomplish” with “the right person [in] the Department of Justice and one of their extremist judges out in the world”.

“Understand this: today 30% of all women live in states that effectively ban abortion,” Warren said, referring to how 14 US states have enacted near-total bans on the procedure since the 2022 US supreme court ruling that eliminated federal abortion rights. “Donald Trump and JD Vance in the White House – it won’t be 30%. It’ll be 100%.”………

He wants to be able to talk over her because he just can't let that woman speak freely without him being able to name call, lie or mansplain incoherently. If it devolves into mud wrestling match, he wins.

Harris is going to have to be prepared with a few catchy, deep searing one line attacks that will consume Trump and keep him off balance and agitated, but allow her to move on to making her point and responding to the question the host ask. Also, be prepared to respond with good retorts when he does happen to make salient attack.
