    As we head toward the summer and the National Party Conventions, it might be handy to have a thread focused on the upcoming matchup of current President Biden vs Former President Trump.
    As of April 28,2024 , CNN's poll shows Trump leading. Yet polls are not always accurate and they are constantly changing.

    I’m not sure what is selfless about getting forced out by the heavy hitters in your primary. Just a few days ago he said he wasn’t dropping out, and today he does under the pressure of the powers in his party.

    It’s not selfless, it’s sad.

    In his January 6th speech, Trump did say the following:

    "I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard. Today we will see whether Republicans stand strong for integrity of our elections. But whether or not they stand strong for our country, our country." (57:20 on the video below)

    However, that was on-script, purportedly written by his speech writers, which you can see that he was reading from the teleprompter.

    At the end of the speech, when it counted most, and off-script, Trump then stated, and I quote:

    "We fight! We fight like hell. And if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore.

    Our exciting adventures and boldest endeavors have not yet begun. My fellow Americans, for our movement, for our children, and for our beloved country.

    And I say this despite all that's happened. The best is yet to come.

    So we're going to, we're going to walk down Pennsylvania Avenue. I love Pennsylvania Avenue. And we're going to the Capitol, and we're going to try and give. The Democrats are hopeless — they never vote for anything. Not even one vote. But we're going to try and give our Republicans, the weak ones because the strong ones don't need any of our help. We're going to try and give them the kind of pride and boldness that they need to take back our country.

    So let's walk down Pennsylvania Avenue."     (1:51:35 on the video below)

    Trump then thanked the crowd and the speech ended.

    Your guy, Dave Smith, conveniently failed to mention the latter, and considering the context of his speech in its entirety and its timing, that sounded a lot like a marching order.

    Trump made quite a few incriminating statements throughout the speech, and cumulatively what he was getting at was quite clear to me. He was leading his followers to go down to the Capital to intimidate Congress and Mike Pence, at the very minimum.

    Many people's problem is that they listen to the spin coming from political pundits, hacks, and propagandists. Too often, they believe what they hear and parrot it, yet never seem to bother to look at the complete evidence for themselves and only then cast judgment.

    Reading, or better yet, watching the entire speech in context is quite revealing and, in my own judgment, condemning of Trump in regard to his inciting an insurrection, which he wasn't even charged with. Instead, he was charged with the four counts as follows because the DOJ thought they would be slam dunks:

    • one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States applies to Trump's repeated and widespread efforts to spread false claims about the November 2020 election while knowing they were not true and for allegedly attempting to illegally discount legitimate votes all with the goal of overturning the 2020 election, prosecutors claim in the indictment.
    • one count of conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding was brought due to the alleged organized planning by Trump and his allies to disrupt the electoral vote's certification in January 2021.
    • one count of obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding is tied to Trump and his co-conspirators' alleged efforts after the November 2020 election until Jan. 7, 2021, to block the official certification proceeding in Congress.
    • one count of conspiracy against rights refers to Trump and his co-conspirator's alleged attempts to "oppress, threaten and intimidate" people in their right to vote in an election.

    The video of the speech is below. Do yourself a favor and watch it in its entirety, then discuss it. Or, just ignore it because you don't care what he said, as it would change nothing because you are that tribal.

She didn’t stop being First Lady because Joe stepped out of the campaign. Did he think Jill was going to Paris to campaign? What a dolt.

     
    MAGA - as only they can - are now comparing the signature of Joe Biden on that letter he released yesterday with previous signatures and demanding #proofoflife on Twitter. 🤦‍♀️🤡

    I was just reading their posts - one of them thinks it’s suspicious that the letter wasn’t on WH letterhead, um, it wasn’t a resignation from the presidency, it was stepping aside from a campaign. They are just not smart.

    Campaigns have to pay back money for using AF1 and other resources. Comparable prices if they were chartering a flight, etc. His statement is stupid, the First Lady will still do First Lady things even though Biden isn’t running for re-election.
