As we head toward the summer and the National Party Conventions, it might be handy to have a thread focused on the upcoming matchup of current President Biden vs Former President Trump.
As of April 28,2024 , CNN's poll shows Trump leading. Yet polls are not always accurate and they are constantly changing.
Feel free to use this thread for all things relating to Biden vs Trump.

Dean Phillips on CNN talking about the palpable level of excitement he can feel from colleagues over this.. that he wants to see a competition but ultimately believes Kamala will be the nominee.

He's not considered convicted until he is sentenced.
That is a lie. The stages of a trial are indictment, verdict (conviction or exoneration), and if necessary sentencing.

Trump became a convicted felon the moment the jury said he was guilty of the first of the 34 counts he was convicted of.

No amount of desperate denial is going to change that fact or convince anyone else that Trump is not a convicted felon.

I saw a Washington Post update that had the tally at 98 endorsements for Harris and 1 democrat calling for an open convention.

Women with power have always scared him. Especially women of color.
How long before Trump makes a misogynistic statement about Harris and/or dog whistles about her not being white?

I would say the 1 was Manchin, except he tore up his Democrat card.

Open convention of sorts with Harris having shored up the necessary support beforehand is probably the best scenario. I think.

The DNC has been planning for a couple of months to certify the nomination with a roll call vote before Aug 7th. I think that's for the best, because the convention can then focus on the nominee and Trump without wasting time deciding who the nominee will be.

They'll do a roll call vote at the convention for show, but it won't take up any more of the convention time than usual.

Some believe a candidate needs to be nominated by August 7th to avoid potential legal challenges to get on the Ohio ballot.

I think it’s possible some deal was brokered by Biden to facilitate a smooth transition to Harris for his stepping aside. I think it’s looking like party leaders want to avoid the potential divisiveness of a contested convention. As a registered Democrat, this is my hope.

CNN: citing an unnamed source; “Biden set in motion plan to exit race last night”

    Waiting for details to emerge.

I agree with you. I think Harris "earns" the nomination by shoring up her support, and quickly. I don't think any of the trendy alternatives are going to challenge her if that happens.

There's been some talk on this board of the women's vote and reproductive rights being a deciding issue. I'm not as optimistic as some, and maybe my take is naive, but it seems to me Harris is the perfect candidate to communicate that message.

Can you imagine Joe talking about reproductive rights?

I’ve said I don’t trust Americans to elect a black woman and that concern remains. I am encouraged, so far, by the overwhelming support for her among Democratic ranks. If she can unify the party, shore up the base, and it’s true that Biden’s ability was the single biggest reason people wouldn’t support the ticket, then the possibility of a path to victory at least seems like it’s out there to be found.
