    =================

NEW YORK (AP) — President Joe Biden begins an intense period of private preparations Friday at Camp David for what may be the most consequential presidential debate in decades.

The 81-year-old Democrat’s team is aware that he cannot afford an underwhelming performance when he faces Republican rival Donald Trump for 90 minutes on live television Thursday night. Biden’s team is expecting aggressive attacks on his physical and mental strength, his record on the economy and immigration and even his family.

Trump, 78 and ever confident, will stay on the campaign trail before going to his Florida estate next week for two days of private meetings as part of an informal prep process.

The former president’s allies are pushing him to stay focused on his governing plans, but they’re expecting him to be tested by pointed questions about his unrelenting focus on election fraud, his role in the erosion of abortion rights and his unprecedented legal baggage.

Thursday’s debate on CNN will be full of firsts, with the potential to reshape the presidential race. Never before in the modern era have two presumptive nominees met on the debate stage so early in the general election season. Never before have two White House contenders faced off at such advanced ages, with widespread questions about their readiness.

And never before has a general election debate participant been saddled with a felony conviction. The debate-stage meeting comes just two weeks before Trump is scheduled to be sentenced on 34 felony counts in his New York hush money trial.

“You can argue this will be the most important debate, at least in my lifetime,” said Democratic strategist Jim Messina, 54, who managed former President Barack Obama’s 2012 campaign.

    PRESSURE ON BIDEN

The ground rules for Thursday’s debate, the first of two scheduled meetings, are unusual.

The candidates agreed to meet at a CNN studio in Atlanta with no audience. Each candidate’s microphone will be muted, except when it’s his turn to speak. No props or prewritten notes will be allowed onstage. The candidates will be given only a pen, a pad of paper and a bottle of water.

There will be no opening statements. A coin flip determined that Biden would stand at the podium to the viewer’s right, while Trump would deliver the final closing statement.

The next debate won’t be until September. Any stumbles Thursday will be hard to erase or replace quickly.………..

No, brother, it's you that needs to put down the scoop you keep using to shovel your BS.

You flat out denied for months that you wanted Trump to win. Everyone here saw it and remembers it. Deny it all you want, but ain't no one but your fellow choirboys having it.

You got tired of being called out for your obvious dishonesty and loudly proclaimed about two weeks ago you had enough and we're taking your ball and going home.

Unfortunately for you, like Trump and most if not all of his Trumpster, you have no self-control. After Biden's bad debate performance, you came rushing back to this board, like sharks to chum, to attack Biden. In your attack frenzy, you screwed up and blurted out your truth, that you want Trump to win and you've always wanted Trump to win.

If you try to spin your way out of this all you're going to get is dizziness and nausea, because there ain't enough spin in the universe for you to spin free from your truth.

Spin yourself silly if it makes you feel better.
Yep, Steve became the band director who directs a band who plays nothing but sorry tin horns.

    Which sounds like hell.

I have a nice song for this windy occasion.

    NO!!!

If Biden steps aside Kamala Harris becomes the incumbent President who would hold the huge election kitty they have jointly raised in her name. They are like married people in that she holds the sole presidential survivor benefits.

All other candidates would start from scratch at a very late date to be just beginning to raise the election cash they would need.

I am a Christian who tonight went to Sunday 6pm Worship Service. I took my niece and 2 nephews with me. They are/were first time visitors.
So I am an Uncle who neglected his live in relatives today to post NUMEROUS posts. I posted MANY posts. Yet I MUST stay online all day and night? I must?
I have living with me right now.... my wife's sister, her husband and their 3 children.
I am driving all seven of us from Brick NJ to Niagara Falls NY on the USA side. Google Maps says 7 hours and 10 minutes. 444 miles. Leaving hopefully by 9:30AM tomorrow morning.
Everyone's counting on me to be rested , organized, and a safe driver.
So "What is the deal?" with certain people on here that think I live my life only to answer their questions? LOL... I'm not allowed to be with my family or go to church?
Now I'm gonna sit down with me wife and our relatives and eat Salmon and Rice for dinner.
    IF....that's ok with you @brandon?
I'm a Jew. I don't ever go to "worship service." Jew's don't do "worship service." We never will do them either, that would be beyond the pale.

Got a new roof on Tuesday aka how to make $9,000 go poof. Feels nice to be able to take care of it though honestly.

Didn't realize the Olympic trials were on now, thanks.

Edit: Guess they aren't on right now LOL
Thank you, tonight is my Ozempic injection night every week. I forgot all about until you posted about "Olympic trials."

It's so easy to forget that it's time to stick a needle into one's own belly fat on Sunday evening . So easy to forget to do that.

It's my Sunday church service you know which I apparently try pretty darned hard to avoid. To forget to do it if I can.

I got it done 15 minutes into monday morning. Late, but soon enough.

    Thanks!!!

I’m on a one-day family trip to New Orleans today. Met Dennis Allen today, in fact.

And like @bdb13 I’m actually putting a new roof on my house this week, too.

We’re all busy. This isn’t really about you posting all day every day. It’s more that you excuse yourself from a conversation every single time the going gets tough.

And then you consistently use these situations as an excuse to avoid the real questions people are asking you.
I'm mowing waist high weed off of a total of 25 acres using a 21 inch push mower, on hill slopes which reach 45 degree angles from being flat land. That 45 degree angle factor ought to explain why I'm using a 21 inch push mower. An absolutely necessary job which takes me two to three months every year.

If I tried to use a riding mower, or big tractor with a brush hog, it would roll over on the slopes and that would likely to kill me.

I have a big tractor with a brush hog. I don't dare take it out onto the steep slopes. More up and down they are, local than flat.

Around here we keep any flat land we have in the gold mining museum. That's the kind of place it is.

Yeah. I sometimes wonder if Steve is dadsdream. Today he said "get a scoop" the journalistic sense of scoop. Dadsdream claimed to be an ex-journalist and frequently reminded us of that. Unless, I'm thinking of someone else.

I know one of the OG's used to claim they were a retired journalist.
I didn't understand that at all. What or who is a "dadsdream."

My dad's fondest dream would be to still to be alive, he died many years ago at 75. My mom is still alive, she will be 90 in August. She's the elder of two big extended family clans. This year she's called for there to be a joint clan reunion. That's a big deal.

We're preparing for there to be about 150 guests who will come and camp out at our place for two to three days. Almost every one of them will be people who are over 65.

What’s to say that’s relevant to this discussion?
    :D

You said, "I’m not saying that a Weekend at Bernie’s administration would be better or worse than a Trump administration, I’m just saying Biden’s cult rides just as hard as a Gavin Newsom viagra bender."

How the heck is that relevant to this discussion, if what I said isn't relevant???

    It’s not.

With that said I will step away from this thread, and see you all after debate number two (or after the next major brick goes threw the window). Take care everyone!
There wasn't a debate number one.

What we saw was a food fight, not a debate.

I just read that the Heritage Foundation is readying legal challenges in swing states if the democrats try to run anyone other than Biden at the top of the ticket. They will try to appeal to SCOTUS. I don’t trust this SCOTUS to decide anything fairly at this point. Heritage will ask the court to basically throw the election to Trump.

It comes down to which candidate is less dangerous for the country. I think it's Biden by far, but if you want to talk yourself (because you're not convincing any of us) into Trump, I can respect that as long as you take responsibility for what happens after he gets elected.

If Trump gets elected, GOP takes the senate, and increases House total and Trump does everything he said he wants to do, (including get at least one more SCOTUS pick) project 2025 does everything it says it wants to do, heritage foundation does everything they said they want to do, Stephen Miller and Steve Bannon do everything they say they want to do, Jim Jordan, Comer, MTG etc. do everything they said they want to do you’re going to see some Republican voters claim:

    “I had no idea!”
“How was I supposed to know?!”
    “If I had only known”
“I didn’t think they were serious!”

Of course plenty of others will be 100% happy with that

My wife has family in south Louisiana. Most of them are Trump supporters. That’s also an area that is incredibly vulnerable on a lot of fronts. A gutted regulatory system and a diminished federal response are going to be disastrous for that region.

The win they feel about the overturning of Roe is going to come at a high cost to all of us. They might never admit why when the consequences set in, but they will feel the pain of those consequences.

Steve is absolutely not DD. That you can be certain of. Their world views are somewhat similar, but posting style is much different.

And I've seen irl pics of both and they look nothing alike.

FYI, Dads was a long time poster who flamed out here.

True. But it's also true that we are individuals who have different perspectives. There's no way of knowing what the majority of voters perceive after the debate. We can't go by our own perceptions, the perceptions of people we know and definitely not the perception of pundits and news outlets, those guys are notorious for completely misreading the general public's perception. No one has an informed opinion of what writing is on the wall at the moment. The unknown is what's causing all the anxiety.

Most of us are just operating off of hearsay and gut feelings, but I do think that polling can be an important indicator to represent how much of the public perceives candidates (obviously).

I dunno, from my recollection they both have similar styles (those deflection-type posts where they talk about their busy lives or w/e instead), but the forum has ways of detecting/flagging ip addresses of previously banned posters, so...highly improbable it's DD part 2.
