Does anyone know the senate rules? If Democrats win the special elections in GA is it going to be to late to get rid of the filibuster?

They can't without a majority in the Senate, and that majority won't happen until the new Senate is sworn in next session. Of course that would only happen if they do win the runoff and/or Alaska seat.

That said, I think they should leave the filibuster in place. They may find themselves on the minority side at some point and would not have any leverage to work compromises. I don't think either party should allow the majority to completely run over the minority. I never liked it being tinkered with for justice votes. Jmo tho.

My feelings on the filibuster are you should have to actually Mr. Smith Goes to Washington that shirt. No procedural, "I declare filibuster! Let's go home," crap. Lace up your sneakers, put in a catheter and start talking till you fall over and die.

Hope yall are right, I’m just a little paranoid since most thought that the Supreme Court ‘wouldnt touch this with a ten foot pole.’

Well, to be fair, the scenario which you opined about the SCOTUS being involved in was inaccurate. The Constitution has a contingency for 269 electoral college ties and it doesn't involve the Supreme Court. So, it wasn't pushback that SCOTUS wouldn't be involved in this election but that they wouldn't be involved in that scenario. As it stands, I don't see them getting involved here. Biden has leads in 4 of the remaining 6 states to be called. Ultimately, the margins should be enough to allay any controversy.

I dont think they were meant to be taken in order.

Right but he can't just ring up SCOTUS and ask if they're down to fork around. He needs a legal team to actually bring them a case and his doesn't seem to want to do that.

What are the first 2 things/orders of business Biden should undertake in the first few days of his Presidency?

I was going to start a thread , but didnt want to be presumptuos or jinx him until he’s declared.. if and when this happens, Mods can move into it’s own thread since i have no doubt this will be an epic debate of monumental proportions. :)

For me, i think he should

    1) Do whatever it takes to get Rs and Ds together to pass a new stimulus package including $$ for small businesses, updated unemployment benefits and stimulus checks for pandemic relief.

    2) Figure out a way to protect Social Security and Medicare, ironclad so they can never be defunded by those who want to ‘privatize’ them........ I realize these things arent within the control of the President , but hey, i flunked Civics class obviously.. i just think he should prioritize them immediately.
