Everything I've seen and heard says that the split second Donald Trump is no longer president there will be flood of charges waiting for him

And if he resigns and Pence pardons him there are a ton of state charges as an understudy waiting in the wings if the fed charges can't perform

What do you think the likelihood of there being a jail sentence?

    In every movie and TV show I've ever seen, in every political thriller I've ever read about a criminal and corrupt president there is ALWAYS some version of;

"We can't do that to the country",

"A trial would tear the country apart",

"For the nation to heal we need to move on" etc.

    Would life imitate art?

Even with the charges, even with the proof the charges are true will the powers that be decide, "we can't do that to the country"?

I just saw this. Hoo boy. Well, I hope all those Republicans choke on their words now. I heard that Steve Scalise on Fox today called the FBI agents who carried out the search “rogue agents“.

He should be disqualified from serving in Congress on that irresponsible quote alone.
To be fair to Scalise (not sure why I want to do that), HE never said that the agents were rogue agents. The host said that the agents weren’t rogue, and Scalise said that’s what they want to find out.

I’ll have to find the clip, but I remembered him saying something like - it’s a concern whenever you have rogue FBI agents and the host pointing out that serving a legally obtained search warrant isn’t “rogue”. He certainly implied that they may be rogue with no proof.

Just as George Conway says - lol. I didn’t imagine this defense - that we all have classified documents concerning nuclear weapons on our phones.

In a pathetic and predictable development, supporters of Donald Trump have lobbed an outrageous lie into the public arena. No, not the one about a stolen election. Another one. The FBI, they claim, “planted” incriminating evidence at Trump’s Florida home when they searched it earlier this week.

That search, pursuant to a lawful warrant authorized by a federal judge, was executed by special agents in the FBI’s Miami Division. Lies for and by Trump are noxious, but they happen so frequently that we tend to ignore — in some cases — the harms they cause.

Traveling in Omaha, Neb., this week, FBI Director Christopher Wray (also predictably) was asked about the planted evidence allegation. I worked with Chris at the Department of Justice, respect him and like him. He is smart, fair and principled — a man of great integrity.

But when he refused to address that lie, one that Trump himself is floating, he made a big mistake.

Of course, Justice Department and FBI officials cannot ordinarily comment on ongoing grand jury investigations. There are lots of good reasons for this rule — and it is a rule — including that it is patently unfair to criminal subjects to air investigative details in public short of charges in open court.

Discussing ongoing cases also can tip off other bad guys and lead to bad outcomes, such as threats to witnesses and the destruction of evidence.

But the FBI director did not have to comment about the Trump case to rebut the “planted” evidence fib. He could have said something like:

I will not address the details of this investigation — or any other. But I will defend the men and women of the FBI against disgraceful lies. Everyone in this great organization took an oath — as I did — to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. We uphold the law, always and everywhere. That ethos is in the marrow of our bones. The allegation that FBI special agents planted evidence at this search — or any search — is dishonest and contemptible.............

I heard someone say that Trump’s lawyer revealed that Donald and Melanie watched the search on the MAL closed circuit surveillance system. According to her, they had a better view of the search than she did. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but would seem to indicate that he’s not going to get anywhere with the “planted evidence” gambit.

So out of 20 boxes, 11 had classified information? Geesh!

edited to add: 11 packets of classified documents. And now that I think about it, this leak must be from the Trump camp, intending to get out in front of it before it’s unsealed. So taken with a grain of salt.

Yeah, it was released by Trump to Breitbart. Who didnt protect the identity of the FBI agents and then published them.

The Republicans and right wing in this country are doing everything they can to forment war and violence in this country. The rhetoric, tactics and calls to violence are unhinged and out of control. The radicalization is so extreme.

I hope that the stuff they retrieved about Macron was what they found in Melania's closet.

Yeah, that's right. He said it's a concern when someone goes rogue, but he never actually said that happened here. He's doing what the "smart" republicans do. He throws out something inocuous, and let's the crazies run with it.
Scalise: ...we're very strong supporters of law enforcement and it concerns everybody if you see some agents go rogue, and if you see an agency that doesn't have the right checks and balances at the top..

Host: Steve, who went rogue? They were following a search warrant.

Scalise: We want to find that out. We want to find that out, and that's why we're asking these questions. Because you know there was reports yesterday that Merrick Garland said he didn't even know about this raid. I don't know if anyone believes that...
