Everything I've seen and heard says that the split second Donald Trump is no longer president there will be flood of charges waiting for him

And if he resigns and Pence pardons him there are a ton of state charges as an understudy waiting in the wings if the fed charges can't perform

What do you think the likelihood of there being a jail sentence?

    In every movie and TV show I've ever seen, in every political thriller I've ever read about a criminal and corrupt president there is ALWAYS some version of;

"We can't do that to the country",

"A trial would tear the country apart",

"For the nation to heal we need to move on" etc.

    Would life imitate art?

Even with the charges, even with the proof the charges are true will the powers that be decide, "we can't do that to the country"?

John Bolton now saying "it was chaotic last days and he probably just threw them in boxes"

    Right.
    On.
    Cue.
I'd believe that, because that's about how much care he'd show to our country's secrets.
    Also, not the best defense.

Right. I'm not a billionaire and I'm not the POTUS. I'm not nearly as crazy as that idiot and certainly not as lazy.

I don't move my own stuff. I don't pack. When I move my office in a couple of months into my new building I'm likely to be in NOLA drinking and watching football while everyone else does that crap.

Not one chance in a zillion Trump was inadvertently mistaken and threw nuke secrets in moving boxes.

Less chance of me wearing size 28 jeans again. Or less. I suppose I could get some horrible cancer or stuck in an concentration camp if Trump wins again, but still less chance.

    Hell, Bolton wasn't even there.

“Standing order than any documents removed from the Oval Office to the residence were deemed declassified.” Wut?

Only the ones planted by FBI.

Oh and apparently you CANNOT unilaterally declassify nuclear documents.

So the Trump defense team has now tossed out 4 different explanations in 40 hours. Can't wait for tomorrow. They gotta be close to scraping the bottom of the barrell.

Yeah, that's right. He said it's a concern when someone goes rogue, but he never actually said that happened here. He's doing what the "smart" republicans do. He throws out something inocuous, and let's the crazies run with it.

Scalise: ...we're very strong supporters of law enforcement and it concerns everybody if you see some agents go rogue, and if you see an agency that doesn't have the right checks and balances at the top..

Host: Steve, who went rogue? They were following a search warrant.

Scalise: We want to find that out. We want to find that out, and that's why we're asking these questions. Because you know there was reports yesterday that Merrick Garland said he didn't even know about this raid. I don't know if anyone believes that...

^^^ Drives me up a wall.

This crazy supposed EO that every document he takes up to the residence is declassified just tells me that he was stealing everything his dim mind thought might have some value over the 4 years and squirreling it away in the WH residence. The MFer was stealing classified documents the entire time. And these morally bankrupt Rs that are still defending him are complete worms. Just the lowest form of life. Not worth their stupid carbon footprint. A stain on humanity.

I mean I thought Trump was vile, but even I didn’t imagine he was stealing from government secrets as some sort of plan to profit later.

I realized today that Obama could put an end to the "but her emails" crowd. He needs to issue a statement saying that he had a standing order that any information that Hillary had on her computer was declassified.

    Are federal criminal trials televised?

If Trump gets charged in federal court, will it be on TV?

How could you even select a jury for that?

And, therein lies the biggest problem...the jury selection problem.
Regardless of how ironclad a case they build against Trump: "Ok,it's illegal for anyone to have national security materials at their private home. Trump had national security materials at his private home. Therefore, Trump broke the law." How do you select a jury in a manner that ensures that you won't have a Trump supporter on the jury?

It would be impossible to do either way. If you tried to keep the jury free of genuine trump supporters, that’s like 1/3 of the country. A jury selection process that eliminates 1/3 of the nation or more is probably error.

Not to mention that another 1/3 think Trump is guilty no matter what

    I know I couldn’t be impartial.

So supposedly one trumps lawyers signed an affidavit stating that no more confidential or top secret docs remained on the property. Incredible that the lawyer would do that. Too stupid...to trust trump or too stupid to think they can lie to the feds.
