Everything I've seen and heard says that the split second Donald Trump is no longer president there will be flood of charges waiting for him

And if he resigns and Pence pardons him there are a ton of state charges as an understudy waiting in the wings if the fed charges can't perform

What do you think the likelihood of there being a jail sentence?

    In every movie and TV show I've ever seen, in every political thriller I've ever read about a criminal and corrupt president there is ALWAYS some version of;

"We can't do that to the country",

"A trial would tear the country apart",

"For the nation to heal we need to move on" etc.

    Would life imitate art?

Even with the charges, even with the proof the charges are true will the powers that be decide, "we can't do that to the country"?

I'll add that it should be amended to discontinue SS protection for anyone who receives SS protection if they are convicted of a federal crime. Of course, no one foresaw the need to add any clause like that because no on in the history of SS protection has ever been indicted of a federal crime let alone convicted of one.

It's as much about preventing a kidnapping as it is an assassination.

I have zero doubt that Trump would offer up everything he knows about US secrets to anyone who's holding him.

Hell, they're probably watching him closely right now to keep him from selling them on the black market.

So where does this 1850 boxes stuff come from? Shouldn’t a good lie have at least a germ of truth? Nobody believes that, do they? Also, yeah, I think he had an uncomfortable conversation with his legal team. 😁

I saw this in the comments and it's so true with trump. "Nobody gets angrier than a narcissist being accused of something they definitely did."

So what's the basis of the prosecutorial misconduct? Him being investigated?

CNN — Lawyers for former President Donald Trump are meeting with Justice Department officials on Monday following a public request for a meeting about what they characterize as prosecutorial misconduct, according to sources familiar with the matter.

A decision by then-President Donald Trump’s campaign to spend more than $1 million for two firms to study whether electoral fraud occurred in the 2020 election has become an increasing focus of federal and state investigators in recent weeks, according to people familiar with the matter.

In recent days, the district attorney in Georgia’s Fulton County has asked both firms to provide research and data as investigators intensify their probe into Trump’s attempt to overturn the result of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.

Not only has the office asked for information and data about Georgia, three people familiar with the inquiries said, but it also is seeking other communications with Trump officials and detailed information about the campaign’s activities in other states.

The research is likely to be used as the prosecutors try to build a broader case, alleging racketeering, according to the three people.

In addition, on the federal level, Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith is questioning witnesses about the companies’ work and has obtained hundreds of pages of emails and research, two people familiar with the matter said.

Both firms, Berkeley Research Group and Simpatico Software Systems, are said to be cooperating with the inquiries. The two companies declined to comment for this article. Four other people familiar with one or both of the probes spoke on the condition of anonymity to disclose internal details.

Earlier this spring, federal prosecutors obtained evidence from Berkeley employees that in late 2020, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows berated employees at the firm after they said there was not enough evidence to overturn the election results and encouraged them to find fraud, people with knowledge of the testimony said…….

There is an element of truth. Biden donated 1,850 boxes of documents to the Univ. of Delaware. Those boxes were not seen by anyone. However, it does appear that the FBI went through them.

Okay, I missed this. So sometimes he lies that they’re in Chinatown, and when he says Biden wouldn’t let anyone see them that’s another lie.

Yeah, it’s a huge exaggeration. The boxes were in storage and UD wasn’t showing them to anyone…but it sounds like they were happy to let the FBI see them.

most of this wouldn't be an issue with Trump had he returned them when asked. Biden wasn't trying to lie about having them and denying thier return.

Seems like Mark Meadows has pled guilty to a few lesser crimes and/or may have received some level of immunity to secure his grand jury testimony, and now prosecutors are about to seek an indictment for Trump on Espionage Act charges.

Trump thinks this is true about Meadows. He’s particularly unhinged tonight.

Hmmm, it was a tweet from Kinzinger showing a post from Trump on Truth. He has deleted it, so maybe it was fake. I can believe it was fake due to the idiocy, but then again with Trump you can never be sure.

CNN) — The Justice Department recently informed Donald Trump’s legal team that he is a target in a federal investigation into the possible mishandling of classified documents, sources familiar with the matter told CNN, a sign that prosecutors may be moving closer to indicting the former president…..

A special counsel indictment of Donald Trumpfor mishandling classified documents is looking likely. If it happens, it would mark the first federal prosecution of a former president in U.S. history. It would also be a teaching moment, here and abroad, for the importance of the rule of law.

We believe that the rule of law requires that Trump be charged, based on the wealth of publicly available facts and the history of the Justice Department charging people who did far less.

Just last week, a former Army lieutenant colonel was sentenced to three years in prison for illegal retention of classified documents.

If special counsel Jack Smith hands down an indictment, we will be keeping an eye on many open issues that might indicate how strong a case the government believes it has. Here is what is on our checklist of things to note:

    1. Retention vs. dissemination

Look to see whether the charges include not just illegal “retention” of national defense information, but also a separate allegation of “dissemination.” Both charges are violations of the Espionage Act and are central to U.S. national security law and protecting the country’s most sensitive secrets.

But a dissemination case is particularly egregious, as an illegal retention case deals only with the riskof improper dissemination, not the actuality. To date, what is in the public record does not indicate that charges for dissemination are warranted, but an indictment may be revelatory.

    2. Obstruction only

Examine whether Smith decides to jettison all Espionage Act-related offenses and charge only obstruction offenses. Such a slimmed-down approach could be aimed at differentiating the Trump prosecution from the apparent facts in the Biden and now-closed Pence investigations. All three involve improper possession of government documents, but only Trump’s case raises the issue of obstruction of justice.

Wild card: If the Justice Department alleges that Trump or his aides were involved in tampering with Mar-a-Lago video surveillance footage, that is as acute a form of obstruction of justice as the allegedly false June certification that represented that a diligent search for responsive documents had been performed and all such documents returned…….
