Frankly, I'm completely ignorant when it comes to the Critical Race Theory curriculum. What is it, where does it come from, and is it legitimate? Has anyone here read it and maybe give a quick summary?

If this has been covered in another thread, then I missed it.

I will not argue about semantics that do not change the message.

If negative stereotypes become positive stereotypes racism goes down. Just memorize that and you will be fine
    It's not "semantics."

What you are arguing is akin to solving the word problem "Paul had 7 cookies and ate 3. How many does he have left?" by stating Paul now has 2 cookies; he could have given one to his aunt and one to his friend Cookie Monster. Then when someone points out that's not the answer, nobody mentioned his aunt or the Cookie Monster you come back with "He has less than he had before; just memorize that and you'll be fine."

Good luck with teaching some kids that they are victims and the oppressor is the white kid.
I really don't think the mainstream view embraces this concept. I do think, however, that that is what the right wants to make people think -- outrage porn generates campaign contributions and gets people to the polls.

Like the Force, it has a strong influence on the weak-minded.

I'll say it again for emphasis. I. Have. Not. Once. Used. the. specific. term. CRT. In. Any. Lecture. I. Have. Ever. Delivered.

But I have talked about race in just about every one of my history classes and will continue to do so. And I've never framed it to make white kids feel guilty or any other such claptrap.

The whole CRT "controversy" is the latest race-baiting boogyman invented and spread by the right who don't even want to understand what it is, much less what is actually happening in any college classroom.

This is the way it should be. Alienating others will not work.

I never heard of CRT until a few months ago. This prompted me to hear Derick Bell on a You Tube video. The theory is incredibly depressing and offers no hope to black America. It describes a hopeless situation for which there is no solution.

As long as we're sharing videos and such, here's what History Book learnin' and teachin' should be about in Merica!!!! Here's how Mr. Jesus invented America.

Very creative and funny guys! I cannot disagree!

Here is an interview with the father of CRT. He paints a bleak picture by stating racism will never go away. The white interviewer feels this may cause too much despair.

I seriously doubt that there is a single person in America that does not know there was slavery. We need to teach the history in great detail without assuming the role of the noble victim and without demonizing white people.
The truth isn't that slavery existed. The truth is why it existed and how it affected black people for over 100 years after is was over. Thats what people want to ignore.

    T

Trump would admit the election was legit before that would happen.
But you know what they say about assume.. yada yada yada....
    What is the goal?
I would assume no racism. Derrick Bell states this is impossible. I tend to agree with Derrick Bell, there will always be some racism. At most racism will diminished but let's not forget that even those whites that want to fight racism are racists too. We evolved in tribes and tribalism will always be he mother of all "isms". This dilemma will not be solved in a generation or two. This may take hundreds of years. That is why I always propose forward progress with a goal that is realistic within our lifetime. This will alleviate frustrations.

Can you elaborate on exactly you mean by this?

What does progress look like and what needs to happen to achieve the realistic goal

And it has to be something more than 'stop talking about racism' and 'be better to earn racists respect and admiration'
