I am just showing a pic from a video of a bunch of kids toten guns singing about gangbanging, selling dopes and shooting people. So that is what our youth is growing up thinking is the normal...

and the majority of gun violence in America is with handguns. and mostly youth and gangs related.

But for some reason anytime gun control is discussed.. Everyone wants to just talk about the ar15... Why do I need a military style weapon.. Well as a matter of fact, in case a gang of these hoodlums want to try and rob me or mine. Thats why.

The left and the democrats always wanna shout.. "What about the kids?".. Well, what about them? They are shooting each other up.. But we don;t want to acknowledge that fact... and I wonder why that is.

I disagree with the assumption that AR-15's are not necessary for hunting. They are used for hunting feral hogs and I really can't think another firearm that comes close to being as useful as the AR 15 for that purpose. And that's no small thing. Farmers have to harvest about what the beginning annual population is every year just to try to stay even with the pest that destroys fields and crops.

For a number of reasons, it's also arguably the safest home defenss weapon is certain situations.

I mean yeah, but one could find caveats and semi-solid arguments for most any weapon, right? A rocket launcher is a pretty safe home defense weapon in what damage it'd inflict on the intruder, but is it necessary? I'm sure even thinking 'rocket launcher' is funny, but that's because we aren't used to it being available for civilian use.

I'm not sure why anyone would use an AR15 for home defense, unless you live in the boonies with no neighbors. The high powered 223 and 556 rounds have serious over penetration. They'll clear 4 walls of sheet rock with deadly force. Even in a home defense scenario, you are responsible for every round that leaves your chamber. Also, in a high stress situation it's much harder to land a round vs a shell, unless you train heavily with that rifle and / or pistol.

The supreme court ruled 2A applies to lawful gun use, such as hunting and home defense. That would be why we can't have rocket launchers and nukes. I can't think of a lawful purpose one would use to set off a nuke and I don't know why anyone would fire a rocket launcher inside of their home to defend it, or at a deer as you wouldn't have much left of it to do anything with.

For better or worse, collateral damage is becoming a forefront issue. I somewhat agree with Surviving Saint that access to arms will be whittled away over time, but not all the way. We'll most likely be left with basic hunting and home defense arms with little room for collateral damage. It's just the way it will be, but as long as we have 2A we should have access to arms for lawful purposes.

As regards to appealing or amending 2A, as I understand, it would take 2/3rds of the Senate and House, and 38 of the 50 States would have to approve it. A monumental order.

On a side note, an armed populace is great for national defense and to ward the threat of a tyrannical government. No matter what fancy toys the military has, they'd never be able to fend off an armed populace. An armed populace whom feeds them, clothes them, shelters them, and funds them. The military is our sons and daughters, our blood. We wouldn't be a 3rd party boogeyman they'd be fighting. There's also too much ground to cover. We can barely control a foreign country, much less 50 states.

I see alot of articles like this that come to a conclusion, but don't really follow what their sources are saying. Per the article's sources:

Spreading the walls out at room distances seemed to make little difference for the pistol rounds, but made a big difference for the 5.56 rounds. Possibly this was due to the tumbling of the rounds causing them to deviate from a straight line. But this raises an important point. When you shoot a 5.56 into walls, you cannot be sure where the flight path of the bullet will go. This is an important consideration if others are in your home.

The 5.56 rounds deviated greatly from the original flight path once they started tumbling. This occurred after the second wall. We need to do some more tests, but need to build bigger walls so that we can make sure we capture the flight path of the rounds.

His targets are so small he can't really tell how far the 556 is penetrating, only that it deviates off course, which in their words, "an important consideration if others are in your home."

The 12 gauge shotgun went through 4 walls like they were not there. Remember this if you have loved ones in your house with you and plan to use slugs for defense loads.

Disappointingly, they tested shotguns with slugs, the worst choice of home defense ammo for a shotgun. Shot is far superior and easier to hit with.

.223 Drywall Penetration: Results

Due to the limited number of wall sections available, it made sense to start with the round that seemed likely to penetrate the least number of walls: The zippy, light, and thin-jacketed V-Max ammo.

It's debatable whether rounds using V-Max projectiles are the ideal choice for defensive purposes, as ballistic gelatin tests show such bullets penetrating far less than the FBI's recommended minimum of twelve inches. However, this lack of penetration in gel works in their favor when dealing with wallboard.

They're testing 223 ammo that doesn't meet the FBI's recommendation for personal defense stopping power.

Per the heavier 223s they fired:

All three rounds tested drilled neat holes through every single wall.

This trend continued in--and through--the final wall. If buckshot is supposed to limit penetration through interior walls, it does so only at a theoretical level.

It is commonly known 00 buckshot over penetrates. A home defense shotgun user is recommended to use #4 shot or lighter, unless you have distance or hard barriers from loved ones or neighbors. It's rather amateur to say, "buckshot is supposed to limit penetration." Clearly in the name it's the second to highest powered shot intended for killing medium to large game.

While both the 9mm and .223 Remington projectiles went through all four walls (eight pieces of Sheetrock), the .223 started to upset after passing through the second wall in the drywall-only test.

The common theme in these "they don't over penetrate" articles is that the rounds get knocked off course. It's clear by their testing 223 and 556 over penetrate, but worse they can veer off in unintended directions.

The other sources were dead links or did not mention penetration.

Here's a great video from Paul Harrell discussing penetration. Paul is a firearms expert with 20 years in the military, and most notably a Marine Corp combat marksmanship instructor. He just lays out the info and doesn't fluff the details. You can see he easily blitzes 2 interior and 1 exterior walls with 223. Some great info all around starting at 7:26 on.
