Perhaps. Although I think it's inevitable given the partisan era in which we live. I think history will prove Biden was a stopgap from sending this country hurtling towards authoritarianism. Where we break won't be revealed until 2024!

Biden is sort of a lesser LBJ. Neither strike me as accomplished Presidents but both had so much tenure in the Senate that they know how to negotiate and push through legislation.

Both apparently suck at foreign policy as well.

To be fair, LBJ had a direct hand in escalating America's involvement in the Vietnam War. Biden just screwed up the making the exit in Afghanistan as orderly as it could reasonably be.

I don't think this will define his presidency. But I do think it was an unforced error based on emotion and not well thought out strategy.

I don't even see this as his fault. This was already laid out before he took office. The great negotiator, the Art of the Deal. He gave them everything they wanted, and pretty much asked for nothing specific in return. What a loser.

This definitely won't be news in about a year. Most Americans simply do not care. Sure it will be ginned up by the GOP because that's politics but ultimately I don't think much of anything Biden does will matter because I don't see him running again in 2024. And I hope the Democrats have the intelligence to allow an open field and not push Harris on us replicating their mistake with Hillary. Assuming he wins reelection to the Senate, I think a guy like Mark Kelly would be a great option.

I refuse to give Biden a free pass because he carried through with a policy of the worst president we've ever had.

He reversed course on dozens if not hundreds of Trump's policies immediately after taking office. They aren't set in stone. I bet even the Taliban was surprised he just carried through with the rushed exit strategy without batting an eye.

The Afghan army is bad because it is very young army with a mixture of people that don't care and some that do, but with corrupt leadership. They're not filled with religious zealots nor martyrs that were willing to die for a cause that was largely unsupportable without the U.S. I think the Taliban had illicit sources of income and support, but Afghanistan is a poor country that needed a lot more time to develop.

The equipment was another good reason to slow down this departure. We have created a much more formidable foe by leaving behind so much of our equipment. I think Biden was advised that this would happen, but he was determined to get out sooner, rather than later, regardless. If the Taliban changes its ways, then this may not lead to a disaster.
