    You are being reasonable and we are just having a friendly conversation. So I will just nicely estimate that when I pull up to a gas pump ⛽️ in Virginia, I would say I am done fueling up and heading on my way in about 7 or 8 minutes. Fully electric cars will not be that convenient in the near future.
    Yeah will probably be awhile before it gets there I would think.
     
    they are getting ready to test pavement that charges electric cars as they drive over it. And I am pretty sure the federal tax incentives apply to both electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Steve, why do you think Biden isn’t encouraging those?
     
    #1 is a fair point, think I heard about that as well.

    Definitely get the plus of a hybrid on #2, would just say that if/when we get to the point where the batteries can be quick charged for another 200-300 miles of driving in less than 20 minutes or so it'll be about the same level of inconvenience as having to stop for gasoline.

    His inflammatory rhetoric and often dehumanizing descriptions of immigrants spurred thousands to demonstrate outside his rallies. By this time in 2016, protesters regularly interrupted his speeches, sparking clashes and foreshadowing Trump’s habit of encouraging violence against those he casts as his enemies.

    “Knock the crap out of them, would you?” Trump once said as he egged on the crowd to go after protestors on their own — even promising to pay their legal bills.

    No longer.

    As he runs again with an agenda that is arguably more extreme than his two previous campaigns, mass protests at Trump rallies and appearances are a thing of the past.

    When Trump returned to New York last week for a hearing in one of his criminal cases, just a smattering of detractors turned up outside the courthouse.

    During a Midwestern swing Tuesday, Trump was interrupted briefly by a protest in Green Bay, but otherwise encountered minimal opposition.

    In a twist, it’s now President Joe Biden who is facing a sustained protest movement, largely by those furious over the administration’s support for Israel in its war against Hamas. During his first major rally of the year, Biden’s 22-minute speech was interrupted no less than a dozen times by detractors calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. Protesters repeatedly disrupted his celebrity fundraiserlast week with former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, as hundreds more demonstrated outside.


    Nearly a decade after Trump launched his first campaign, organizers and others who participated in past protests describe a change in tactics as they focus their efforts on other issues or turning out voters in November. Some described a “Trump fatigue” after nearly a decade of outrage. Others say it’s Biden’s policy toward Israel that has them the most agitated and have turned their attention to protesting him.

    “All the people that would be protesting Trump, a lot of these people, a lot of that energy are now focused on protesting a genocide in Gaza,” said Thomas Kennedy, an immigrant from Argentina who participated in more than a dozen anti-Trump protests and rallies in 2016.

    Kennedy still describes the former president as a “horrible threat.” But for “a lot of people like me who would have been out there protesting Trump, it’s just demoralizing and dispiriting. It’s not worth my effort and my energy.”……..

    That's true. But, the only way we'll ever get there is to getting more and more EVs on the road, and letting the market test them, and the engineers improve them. Gas powered cars weren't much better than horses when they first came out.

    They'll get there. There are a ton of factors that go into charging times, battery size, range, how much remaining in battery etc, but the fastest times I've seen is 20-30 minutes at a fast charging station. If the battery is half drained, won't take that long. That said, it varies based on a lot of factors. I'd rather have a hybrid myself as well.

    That article is just wrong. Federal tax credit applies to both EVs and hybrids that qualify. The same rules apply to both. It absolutely doesn't apply just to EVs.

    I don't know, I haven't seen him speak on the issue lately. But often people who talk about EVs in political speak mean EVs and include hybrids in that number. It's easier to say EVs than EVs and hybrids.

    I've never once seen him say hybrids shouldn't be part of the transition to electrics. Just feels like a contrived criticism. Now, you can criticize how quickly the government wants to go full bore for EVs. There's certainly room for debate there. I'm not convinced we're that close, but it's debatable.

    I think dealers will tell you that those consumers who wanted 100% EVs now have one. The rest of us don't want a car that won't start on a cold January morning. Yes....the government should not decide what we drive. Not there yet but it feels like we are headed in that direction.

    Speak for yourself. I want a 100% EV truck. That doesn't mean the rest of us who aren't you all want a 100% EV, anymore than you not wanting an all electric vehicle means everyone else doesn't want one either.

    Electric cars won’t start on a cold January morning? Where did you get that? Gas combustion cars won’t start in extremely cold weather without a trickle charger being plugged in.

    The Biden administration has abruptly canceled a plan announced last month to purchase up to three million barrels of oil as part of its effort to refill the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR).

    The SPR — which Congress established for emergency situations — currently contains 363.6 million barrels of oil, a 43% decline from January 2021 when President Biden took office, federal data shows. Biden began depleting the reserve in late 2021 to combat high fuel prices.


    Well, he got the optics of lower gas prices for the mid terms.
    Well, you know nothing about gas prices so there is that.

    That is not a EV car problem.

    That is a automaker problem - only Rivian figured this out.

    All but Rivian made their 12V battery that runs the ancillary functions single directional so it only draws power.

    A single secondary wire allows for the 12V to drip charge the battery in cold weather just like a plug-in drip charge for an ICE. Kia, Hyundai, Toyota, VW and polestar have fixed their problem. I do not know about Tesla but I assume they are too.
