Bernie Sanders can accurately be described as a populist politician.

Trump is a Christo-fascist puppet head that stirs up anger and resentment in the white blue-collar populations through recriminations of minorities/immigrants/the left/the deep state/ the "whatever", in order to gain power to enhance his ego and money. And now also to protect himself from criminal prosecution. I don't think there's really a word to encompass all of what Trump is, but he's certainly not a populist.

Populism isn't always a positive. Nearly every authoritative states started as a populist movement. Economic populism is usually a good thing, ethnic and cultural populism not so much. History is littered with populist tyrants.

I didn't say only white-blue collar workers, but definitely mostly them. I'll believe minorities are moving towards Trump when I see it in an actual election. Until then, with the exception of Cuban's in Miami, it's just pointless speculation that I'm very skeptical of regardless of who puts it out.

Only problem regarding your comment on Rachel Maddox is that she is correct in her assessment of Trump.

He has no core values or principles.
Enriching himself and getting people’s adulation is crucial to his mental health.
He adores authoritarian leaders and fawns over them.
He is incapable of nuance.
He uses people to further his attempts at getting money and adulation. (The religionists are the best example of this.)
His entire messaging is anger like a spoiled child.
He takes white fear and anger and sells that back to his infinitely stupid base.

As regards Biden “losing” Black voters it is unsurprising that there is a percentage of voters in any group that would vote for a dangerous imbecile like Trump. Of course, some groups like Republicans have a lot more. They see him as a means of grifting for themselves. They are also gutless in that many privately acknowledge what a danger Trump is yet they refuse to take a public stand.

Republicans have been gutless to varying degrees since the end of Reconstruction.

I would argue that Trump is different than even Hitler and Mussolini as a populist because they at least a included an economic populist agenda along with the hatred in their ethnic and cultural populism.

Trump does not even bother to do that much for the people that support him. His brand of "populism" is really only built on exploitation of hatred of "the other" for his own ego and power.

You really want reform? Establish centers to process people. ”Securing the border” is just a bullschlitz meme. It is meaningless because it does address the why. It doesn’t address the bullschlitz of “immigrants taking jobs from Americans” because they are doing work that the vast majority of Americans don’t want to do.

Not only all that, but Republicans crying for years on end about OPEN BORDERS has become it's own self fulfilling prophecy. They scream that at the top of their lungs every chance they get and people in economically dire situations all over the world have heard them say it and believe it. Then you have the criminal gangs down south pushing the same narrative. It's increased the flow of migrants to the southern borders to the unstainable level that it is at now.
