I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

I'm curious if the same standard still applies like it did for Russiagate according to what many said here? I'm guessing there will be some nuanced take that claims this is different.

Wait. What? Chinese government propaganda posts are indistinguishable from posts on political forums in the US?

    You didn't even get it.

Anyway, Trump has lied to us as much if not more than the Chinese government lied to them.

He told us last week it would go away. He told us it was fine and under control. He told us it was a hoax.

His government whacked the one agency that would have been in charge of this and then lied about it while ignoring it so now we have less tests than Korea or Italy. How in the hot hell does the USA have less of anything than S Korea or Italy?

So, back to the analogy. If you're mad at China and feel they should be punished into the stone ages by the world's other nations then what do you think ought to happen to us when our POTUS only finally heeded the reality of the situation on Monday? How do you reconcile the fact that HE made sure we have no tests and, as such, are reporting dirt-level-crap data? You can't even get a test today if you wanted one unless you're Sean Payton so what do we do about that?

As for the LSD and Bacon argument, you're here telling us government shouldn't be telling us what to do right up until it's China telling its southernes not to eat bats. You won't even consider telling our crazy people they can't horde guns, but China should make its people stop shopping in open air markets as they've done for 5000 years.
Honesty question, how many more mutated virus need to come from China or do we count death world wide? How many more deaths until you think it is time for the world to do something? I need an number? Can we at least get upset with them after the next one or should we wait until the second one? I don't want to hurt someone feelings or actually hold a government accountable for bring the world to a halt, thousand of deaths world wide unless we all agree on a number that is the line it he sand.
A lot of people pulling water for China on this one. Almost like everyone you disagree with being a Russian bot.

Again, you don't even get it. Yes, I hate Trump. I am disgusted by those who support his racist policies, but I'm also smart enough to know that many of them support anything it takes to rid the country of Muslims. I read it every day on my FB feed. Deny or defend it at your liesure, but it's sure as heck true like the day is long.
Yeah man, I am not going to defend or even discuss your facebook feed. Sounds like you need to get some better 'friends' or I might suggest, stay off of FB for awhile. Walk around, talk to people (6 feet distance please) in the real world. You will soon see that it is indeed your social media world. IMHO.

    1. Who gave you this talking point?
    2. Are you saying we should be more specific like TrumpRidesPutin’sJockGate?

I think there is cause for legitimate concern with China's policy and practices. There have been a few incidents of primarily animal to human transition of virus that are a result of some of the open markets and health standards. There's also clearly a problem with their authoritative government and flow of honest information. So I think applying international pressure on them to address those issues are valid.

At the same time, your focus on China being the sole problem (you may not believe that, it just comes off that way on the internet), is a bit shortsighted. It's similar to using racial profiling to control crime. Yes, you could catch some cases, but you end up having a lot of blind spots as a result. And that is especially dangerous when we're talking about a virus. These types of virus can mutate and be commuted to human population anywhere around the world and do. What often makes the difference in China is the population density that provides a futile ground for higher transmissions. It's not specifically because of their customs and practices. So in trying to apply international pressure to improve some of these things and prevent deseases, it's best not to take an approach that can be seen as a cultural attack on a specific population or country. That will only make it harder to get their cooperation in fighting this stuff. Just my 2 cents.

I actually tend to agree with just about everything you just typed. Good post and good point. I will say that I think China is the main problem for this pandemic that is happening right now.

Do I think this happens because Chinese people and/or culture are evil, dirty, stupid, backward or anything like that? Absolutely not. I actually have a lot respect for the Chinese culture and their many, many, many advancements and additions to the human race and achievements. I have Chinese neighbors. Wonderful people. Great neighbors and great people (and dumplings.....damn!). They also dislike their government a lot more than I do. They have family members that are no longer on this planet because of the government. The Chinese have a culture to be very proud of (minus the whole communism part) but the government that they allowed to rule them is a evil regime and are a very evil actor on the world stage and should pay severely for crippling the world economy, killing thousands and thousands of people world wide all because they want to protect the party first? Yeah, I got nothing but disdain for the Communist Peoples Republic of China.

So, would you be surprised if a Fox News host just stated that if the Senator has some explanation for his actions, which is not apparent, he needs to come forward with it immediately - otherwise he should resign and face criminal charges? And further stated that for an elected official to betray the public in a national crisis is the most reprehensible thing imaginable?

id be surprised if ALL of them, in CONCERT did.

Tucker Carlson is not FOX - wake me when Hannity, Ingraham et al parrot the same response.

I believe hers is in a blind trust

here is a good thread on this. I think Burr and Loeffler are toast. Everyone elsewould seem to be on better footing to defend their transactions. Those two not so much. Especially the investing in teleworking software after selling off everything else. I mean way to make it super obvious.

So since no one is working anymore, there’s no such thing as Not Safe for Work (NSFW).. so that means we can use the exact language we want to use to describe this sad, pathetic excuse for a president... Right? Asking for a friend.
LOL. Hasn't stopped any Trump Haters in the past. Class and expected social behavior is suspended when discussing the evils of orange man bad. Everyone knows that.

LOL is correct.. You’ve obviously bought into the Trump Crime Family hook line and sinker.

Hey, hows that Trump economy/stock market working for ya? You think it might’ve been nice if Trump had *actually* taken this seriously from the beginning, instead of just now *saying* he took it seriously.. You think that might’ve helped just a teensy- weensy bit?

Nah, let’s just keep calling it the “Chinese Virus” to make ourselves feel better, and it’ll all be ok... You know, becuase it didnt *start* here in America. :9:

What is sad is that if we demand an investigation, the ones investigating their colleagues are more than not just as guilty, just better at selling out the people that elected them. It will be like every other time. The two parties will come together behind closed doors to hold on to their collective power over all of us lemmings and we will then go back to our corners and begin going at each either again as they count their cash and watch and laugh from above. Rinse repeat.

    What a ridiculous assessment.

And nobody is defending China. There's is a broken, authoritarian regime, but you're criticism of them is a mirror image of my criticism of Trump only they lied to the rest of the world while actually doing something about it and putting down the infection rate.

Our leader, Trump, lied to us despite knowing what the reality was. He preceded his misinformation campaign by emasculating the very agencies tasked and able to deal with this situation. And since then he's done nothing more than blather while the adults he could muster attempt to unscrew the pooch.

How do you blame China and hold Trump unaccountable? He has the world's greatest intelligence at his fingertips. The late January briefing that apparently prompted a couple of Senators to sell their stock was only released to them after he already knew and was lying to us.

You criticize China and yet applaud them for doing something. If they had been honest from the beginning they could have taken measures to mitigate its spread outside their boarders.

Instead, they were blasting Trump's restrictions on travel between the US and China as xenophobic and racist. Of course, they weren't the only ones to do that.
