I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

First and foremost, he's not Biden or Bernie. Or Warren, Harris, Pete, Booker, etc.
That field of candidates was comically bad.

It's about nominating judges. And opposing mass immigration. Honoring the Second Amendment. Providing the circumstances for the economy to grow (yeah, I know about recent events). Allowing our beautiful fossil fuel industry to thrive. Taking on China economically. Being adverse to taking us to war.

    Did I mention he's not a Democrat?

    I think I get it.

It sounds like you dont think he’s some great leader of men like Washington or Lincoln, or some great communicator/elocutioner like Reagan- but you put up with him because he’s just a means to an end... Do i have it right?

No doubt. I don't think that any of the conservative posters on this board think Trump is some infallible statesman.

That's all fair. I notice "crisis management skills" weren't one of your qualifications, and we're about to find out what happens when the leader we picked for his reality-TV and con artistry skills has to handle the most serious crisis this country has seen in a long time.

Dr Fauci has been pretty good, but I don’t understand how or why he says that he doesn’t understand how testing everyone would help?

Here's why testing everyone won't really help.

You are asymptomatic, you get tested, the test comes back negative. Now what? That means that you didn't have it enough to register a positive when they tested you. However, that doesn't mean that you hadn't been exposed and it hadn't developed enough yet. It doesn't mean that you haven't been exposed to it and developed a testable level since you were tested. It doesn't mean you won't be exposed tomorrow.

Testing everyone will simply show us who has it at that very moment. What about your coworker? You both got tested three days ago, your test came back negative, his came back positive. Now you may have caught it from him two days ago, and exposed everyone you have come in contact with since then.

The only way that testing everyone would be effective was if we locked everyone down and waited, say, 5 days, and then went house to house testing everyone. Then we could isolate those who had it.

Anyways, to those capable of discussing this without the elementary school games:

And this is with a shortage of tests.

This is why Trump’s early apathy and incompetence was so dangerous. Throw in the proporganda of people like Limbaugh calling it the common cold, Fox News calling it a Democratic ploy, and the president telling everyone it will be over by April. Doing nothing in the interim to scale up for what could have easily been seen from Italy, China, and Spain.

The federal government still not taking a true leadership role in this. Acting more like Hoover, downplaying and taking half measures thinking if he can just hold out, than FDR willing to throw everything he can at the problem.

U.S. intelligence agencies were issuing ominous, classified warnings in January and February about the global danger posed by the coronavirus while President Trump and lawmakers played down the threat and failed to take action that might have slowed the spread of the pathogen, according to U.S. officials familiar with spy agency reporting.

The intelligence reports didn’t predict when the virus might land on U.S. shores or recommend particular steps that public health officials should take, issues outside the purview of the intelligence agencies.

But they did track the spread of the virus in China, and later in other countries, and warned that Chinese officials appeared to be minimizing the severity of the outbreak.

Taken together, the reports and warnings painted an early picture of a virus that showed the characteristics of a globe-encircling pandemic that could require governments to take swift actions to contain it.

But despite that constant flow of reporting, Trump continued publicly and privately to play down the threat the virus posed to Americans.

Lawmakers, too, did not grapple with the virus in earnest until this month, as officials scrambled to keep citizens in their homes and hospitals braced for a surge in patients suffering from covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.

Intelligence agencies “have been warning on this since January,” said a U.S. official who had access to intelligence reporting that was disseminated to members of Congress and their staffs as well as to officials in the Trump administration, and who, along with others, spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe sensitive information...........

“No one could have predicted this!”

More evidence to support why Trump rates his performance as a "10."

the stream of low-brow insults never abates.

DD, please tell me that you didnt vote for The Donald... Please tell me you dont support him, or his policies, or his administration... Because if you do- then your coming onto a Political forum and complaining about a ‘stream of low brow insults never abating’ would be really, really rich, even for you.

I don't know, I've tried showing you demographics, graphs, charts, everything I can think of to let you know that A LOT of veterans felt the same way I did about Hillary and voted as I did.

But, over, and over, and over, you keep up this endless diatribe of bile directed at folks like me, regardless of the thread topic, regardless of what's actually pertinent and in the moment, the stream of low-brow insults never abates.

    So it’s the PDB? Lol
Veteran here too that would not ever imagine voting for Hillary. And for me it has zero to do with her party affiliation.

I'm also a veteran and voted for Hillary. Imagine that.

But if you listened to BF and DD, you'd think all veterans thought the same as they do politically.

And as soldiers died for our right to think as individuals I respect your right to vote for whomever you see fit.

Personally I wouldn’t vote for Hillary even if her opposition was Pol Pot.

Also Veteran here and I voted for neither of them

I don’t want to make a thread for this, but I’m curious what is the ratio here of left to moderate to right?
The PDB was about 90/10 left.
    tyia for any answers.

For full disclosure I don’t ‘like’ any of them and believe it’s all elite vs. non elite. I just can stomach some more than others.

Speaking of her relevance, do you think there’s any credibility to the rumors swirling of Joe being a placeholder and a brokered convention? Or him stepping down citing health reasons if he chose her to be his running mate?
I don't think there's any credibility to that, sorry.

It's true that you could be negative today, and then get it later, but you're wrong about asymptomatic people not testing positive. I've read many reports, for example from the cruise ships, where many people that were asymptomatic tested positive, and later developed the symptoms. Besides, testing doesn't have to be a one time thing. People should be able to test more than once. The worst thing we're doing is not testing people that have been exposed that aren't symptomatic. Those people are much more likely to be sick and vectors.

By the way, we are effectively asking people to lock themselves down, but that is definitely not the only way it would help, because every person that has it asymptomatically could be eliminated from becoming vectors by at a minimum putting those people on lockdown. Furthermore, once people know they are sick, everyone can be more careful around that person. The only justification for not testing everyone repeatedly is the cost and logistics of doing it. It would definitely help curtail the spread dramatically.
