I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

I think this is exceptionally stressful for a bunch of you.

Take a deep breath. This is an opportunity to work on yourself.

Go for walks and stay away from people. So do something productive.

Yes we as a world have to work together to kick this virus in the arse. I really don't see how offending China is gonna help any. They have valuable data we as a nation and we as a world desperately need.

This is WW2 right now. GM and Ford are in talks of ventilator building for the nation in the factories they shut down today.

Working together is the answer here.

    Your best post.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he doesn’t think calling COVID-19 the “Chinese virus” — or the “kung-flu,” as one administration official reportedly called it — puts Asian Americans at risk of retaliation despite growing reports they are facing virus-related discrimination.

Since coronavirus infections started appearing in the United States in January, Asian Americans have shared stories of minor aggression to blatant attacks from people blaming them for the pandemic, which has killed more than 130 people in the United States.........

China can kiss my ***!!! I will no longer bye product that I can identify as being manufactured there or anyt component was made there. They screwed the pooch at the start and then actually have the BALLS to accuse us of an NBC attack. EFF them.

Well looks like you will no longer buy a thing to drive or to cover your back or feet.

    Have fun with that one.

And what are we gonna do if a war between us and China ever broke out? Cause you are right, We won't have a thing to drive or nothing to put on our feet...

No one said it was. But the origin of a crisis and the response to it are two different things, aren't they?
Then it seems weird to call it a "tactic". Responding to a criticism does not strike me as some sort of tactic to deflect from supposed incomptence.

So, I guess the "Chinese Virus" tactic (aka "How can I get Americans to overlook my incompetence and focus on another scapegoat?") is actually working.
    Indeed.

I find the whole argument, from both sides, incredibly stupid. The Left gets triggered by "Wuhan Virus" and the right ups the ante by calling it "Kung Flu". The whole thing is just STUPID.

Meanwhile, Covid-19 just keeps trucking along not giving a shirt what people are calling it and has its eyes on the thousands of jackasses partying it up on Miami Beach.

It's not a tactic on the part of Trump supporters. It's a tactic of Trump and his FNC media sycophants targeted at Trump supporters. It's also targeted at Trump haters too, since they know they'll cry xenophobia, the Trump supporters will sneer at them as "woke" weaklings, and suddenly no one is talking about Trump's incompetence anymore. Like this thread is currently demonstrating.

I agree to an extent in that it is an obvious bait by the ”culture warriors” and Trump who relies on such tactics to rally his base.

However, It’s also an intentional use of racism to distract from the larger incompetence of the tribal leader. Which to me is objectively worse. So I personally don’t exactly see it both sides. Where, for example, guys on the Internet might bat signal out a mockingly photoshopped avatar of a multiple accused rapist to trigger the libs are contrasted with those that might see such activity as credibly concerning. And while I think the latter in the game of populist politics will at best break even given the countries slow adjustment to social causes, I wouldn’t really put them on the same moral plane. To me the “Wuhan Virus” nonsense is very troubling, but if I mattered in politics I would argue focusing on it wasn‘t. Of course this is a fringe board so I dont really care about that, and it’s just what it is, racism trying to distract from the larger picture that ultimately is what overrides the motives of many of Trump’s supporters.

I agree with you here, but I believe that ignoring this obvious baiting, on this particular subject, would be less harmful than engaging in this distracting back and forth.

    Miami Beach was closed. ;)

Check out your posts in the thread about Trump's decision to withdraw our troops in Syria

Accusing someone of genocide is a far cry from saying they are turning their back to it. And I stand by the statement that the US by turning their back to the kurdish people and allowing Erdogan a free hand is the same as allowing it to happen. Notice that I am not alone in that statement - many US servicemen who had fought alongside the kurds and had first hand experience in the same region, said the same!

I have spoken up against the chinese crimes in Tibeth and against the Uyghurs , Against the uhuman treatment of children along the US/mexican borders, Against Erdogan/Turkey and the Kurds and againt nazism and racism of any kind - even those that have done that in my own contry against the native population in Greenland.

Those who have known me long enogh will know that I was a member of The European Council of Freedom - A youth organisation working for free speach and human rights in countries behind the WALL in Europe for years before the Berlin spring. Not always without certain personal risks!

Being critical of a some elements of a countrys politics ARE not calling them "evil" - no matter which country we're talking about.
I will keep on being a critical voice against everything I consider a crime against humanity - regardless of which nation we're talking about and that include my own.

    I would think so.

I am curious, did you actually go back and read what you wrote or are you going off memory? Because really, you said it not once but twice.

Joe get lost with that attitude.

How are we gonna get the needed supplies from China since we are offending them and been playing the tariff games.
