Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/17/sup...y-that-refuses-to-work-with-lgbt-couples.html

    • The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a unanimous defeat to LGBT couples in a high-profile case over whether Philadelphia could refuse to contract with a Roman Catholic adoption agency that says its religious beliefs prevent it from working with same-sex foster parents.
    • Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

I don't know a single person that cares about someone being gay. Maybe because I hang out with progressive folks. I do know a lot of people that are uneasy about the transing kids thing, including a lot of gays.
Do you think you are feeling the blow back that is aimed at the trans community?

No and yes. As trans people are a part of the LGBTQ community, the negativity and attacks surrounding trans people reaches to most/all LGBTQ people and is felt as an attack on the whole community. But I also very much feel the negative focus and attacks on gays that have grown substantially since Trump became president and since DeSantis focused his ire on gays. In general, all things surrounding LGBTQ people have come under attack and been portrayed as extremely negative by Republicans in their desire to put christianity front and center in their quest for a "moral" America.

What recent hospitality? I see every institution of this country celebrating transing kids. Trans kids are in cartoons now, books, shows and movies. So, there have never been more accepting time to be trans, so if you assertion is that the suicide rate is due to not be accepted, then there has to be a noticeable drop in suicide rates among trans kids/teens. If not then acceptance is not the problem, it is the actual mental disorder that the professionals trying to treat by permanently altering the body (can't think of another mental disorder they do this for).

Yes, there certainly is more visibility and acceptance of the trans community than ever before

But this is a ridiculous argument

More visibility and acceptance of a marginalized group always leads to more backlash, violent rhetoric and violence against that group perpetrated by people who are outraged by that visibility and acceptance

People are more open and accepting of a Black actress playing the Little Mermaid than 20 years ago (hell 5 years ago). And yet she is also getting a torrent of vile hatred thrown her way and she (and others) have spoken about the toll that's taken on her

"So, if the assertion is that racial stress comes from not being accepted in a traditionally white roles, there has to be a drop in racial stress when one is cast in a traditionally white role, if there's still stress it has nothing to do with being cast in the role or not"

So by your reasoning if people are more accepting why does she feel stress? To avoid the stress she should have stayed in her lane and knew her place and not accepted the part?

"When no one knew you were a 'woman in a man's body' no one was mean to you, so this is your fault really"

It's telling that you'd attribute suicides more to a mental disorder than on any anti trans laws, rhetoric and abuse

Why are we even talking about it?
    Transphobic
    I'll wear it with pride.
    Cute.
    Don't care about the weather
Genitals are a part of our physiological makeup.
    NO! Really?
Singling out genitals when discussing physiology does not mean genitals are no longer related to physiology.
"Singling out genitals" is a reductionist way of putting it, but...

Except you've been shown how it is a complex,
Except that I have not been shown any of the sort, other than you saying "it's complicated" as if it was a social media relationship status. It's not complicated to me.

Keeping this on the topic at hand- the difference as it applies to sports- I would say that gender identity is an important part of who we are and that anybody participating in sports should meet the requirements set forth by the governing body of the league in question. In the case of some athletes, they have met those requirements and have been allowed to compete. If someone identifies as trans, they should be allowed to compete as long as they meet the guidelines of the governing body, which takes a lot of time and effort to achieve. In the case of Fallon Fox, for example, she underwent gender affirmation surgery and two years of HRT.
Gender identity may be important, but measurables in sports don't include gender. And the governing bodies that are allowing those mismatches are wrong in allowing them.

Someone willing to stick with their dreams and goals through this process deserves a chance to compete.
And compete fairly, unless you are a woman female of the species, then just do what you have been doing since we walked on 2 feet, take it like a woman.

Are transgender women females of the species?

CNN) - The Senate will punt on a vote over same-sex marriage legislation until after the November midterm elections as negotiators ask for more time to lock down support -- a move that could make it more likely the bill will ultimately pass the chamber.

Sen. Tammy Baldwin, a leading Democratic negotiator on the bill that would codify same-sex marriage nationwide, said Thursday that more time is needed to negotiate the issue with Republicans -- and wants to delay any vote in the Senate until after the November midterm elections.

"We're very confident that the bill will pass, but we will need a little more time," Baldwin told CNN.

Democrats had originally been eyeing a Senate vote before this fall's midterms -- potentially even as soon as next week. Now, Baldwin says she wants the bill to come up "the day after the election."

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has vowed to hold a vote on the bill, but timing has been uncertain as it has been unclear if there will be the needed 10 GOP votes to overcome a filibuster and advance the legislation toward final passage……..

It goes on. Stir up hatred, and when people make threats based on the hatred, just deny it is happening. Should sound familiar.

Yea, you're cool with is as long as they don't talk about being gay.

A teacher can have a photo of his or her family on their desk, as long as it's the type of family god intended.

Maybe you guys need to move away from the part of the trans community that are pushing the transing of kids and those that are obsessed with discussing sex/porn with little kids. One doesn't have to be 'right wing religious nut job' (like myself) to know that is not a good thing. But part of politics and the culture war is that all are lumped together and receive the criticism from the other side whether the believe in those tenants or not. See the whole Q thing, so it is nothing new or unique with the LGTBQ group.

I thought one of the goals is for people to 'see others that look like them'? Is that not a push now? I get so confused.

So then, if not for acceptance and 'seeing others like me' why has the suicide rate in the trans community been so high and what is needed to solve that issue?

No! We're not going to let right wing religious nut jobs frame what we in the LGBTQ community are doing and advocating for as "pushing transing" or "being obsessed with discussing using sex/porn with little kids", sense those characterizations are outright lies. We'll continue to speak the truth and fight back, regardless of consequences. And we'll eventually win this fight.

The whole "Q thing" deserves all of the attacks and derision people heap on them.

    Horrible Idea.
This is an 'anti religion' bill and nothing more. Might as well dig up the 'enlightment' (talk about an self laudatory of names) philosophers of the french revaluation.

If this is passed (why does the federal government need to define marriage- oddly, can they give a definition of marriage?) this will be another club to beat down churches into accepting and or permitting gay marriage in their churches. Otherwise, there is not reason for this

So you support puberty blockers for children as young as 12 and the removal of breasts for children as young as 15?

Can you define what a woman is?

If you take offense to the suggestion that you guys are obsessed with education kids on sex at very young ages, then why the sudden spike and push to make drag queens so accessible to children? I can only think of 1 reason that are real world. What about you?

Good to know, I guess you are in the right group then. My mistake.

Did I say that? Oh, it is what you think all conservatives think. Got it. Carry on.

More victim complex from a religious zealot. The second sentence is laughable hyperbole. People don't need to be married through religious institutions so nothing stops a church from refusing to marry two gay people. Wake me when religious institutions are made to pay taxes... they get way too much special treatment and the Free Exercise Clause is used as a weapon against rational thought.

I'm not really interested in discussing these overly rehashed topics with you as we've done in so many post in the past. It's just beating a dead horse. You're framing and beliefs on these topics are exaggerated distortions from right wing outrage media.

I an very pro anti-religion :hihi: , but, I don't see it. Why is it anti-religion?

You make it sound like a bad thing. There is a lot of the Enlightenment (aka the Age of Reason) in the U.S. Constitution.

If this is passed (why does the federal government need to define marriage- oddly, can they give a definition of marriage?) this will be another club to beat down churches into accepting and or permitting gay marriage in their churches. Otherwise, there is not reason for this
Marriage is simply a civic contract between two individuals, sanctioned by the State.

Churches don't have to accept or permit anything, but what needs to happen, the State needs to stop recognizing church weddings as binding civil contracts, so people would have to go to court to actually legally enter the civil contract (get married) and churches need to start paying taxes and stop getting any sort of subsidy from the State.

BTW, that's the way it's been in MX since the social revolution of 1910; you have to go to the Civil Registrar to get married, otherwise, you are not, no matter in which church or denomination you had your ceremony.

How can they ”move away” from something that is a conspiracy theory? Something that is made up in some outrage porn fever dreams?
