Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/17/sup...y-that-refuses-to-work-with-lgbt-couples.html

    • The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a unanimous defeat to LGBT couples in a high-profile case over whether Philadelphia could refuse to contract with a Roman Catholic adoption agency that says its religious beliefs prevent it from working with same-sex foster parents.
    • Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Sid High left church years ago but stayed devoted to God, and so, one Sunday this fall, the teenager and his family gathered in their living room to watch a sermon on YouTube.

His three sisters dragged themselves to the couch, weekend-tired and silent, but Sid plopped down next to his parents with a goofy grin. He’d been up for hours. Every morning, he lined his bay window with prayer candles he bought by the case from the Dollar Tree, and he prayed for everyone he knew.

When the pastor of a local Presbyterian church appeared on screen, Sid adjusted the funky button-down shirt he’d found at a thrift store, and he sat a little straighter.

“Today, we’re going to hear a little story about Jesus,” the minister said. “Jesus is on the way to Jerusalem, and some people called the Pharisees come up to him, and they say, ‘Hey, Jesus, watch out. This king named Herod is after you. He wants to harm you, so you might want to run away.’”

Sid understood that kind of danger. He was 18 and transgender in a world that felt increasingly hostile for young people like him. One group of parents had sued the local school district over its trans-friendly policies, and another had managed to shut down a nearby library because it displayed LGBTQ books. Iowa’s governor had even made condemning trans kids a signature part of her reelection campaign.

People misgendered Sid at work, and teenagers posted mean comments on the TikTok page where he lip-syncs to “Pumped Up Kicks” and other pop songs. Even some of his fellow Christians were becoming more intolerant.

Nearly 70 percent of White evangelicals think society has gone too far in accepting trans people, according to data the Pew Research Center released in the summer. That’s up from 61 percent five years ago.

“But Jesus was determined,” the pastor said. “He loves these people that will end up rejecting him. … Let’s have a prayer, shall we?”

Sid closed his eyes. He knew people thought you couldn’t be both Christian and trans, but as the country grew more divided, he found himself growing deeper in his faith. Maybe, he thought, he could do what Jesus had. He could move forward bravely in the face of danger, refuse to stop loving and spread a message of hope………

Maybe Sid hasn't read the part where it says he's an abomination and should be put to death. Don't think Jesus loves the people who reject him either.

On one hand, the sniper taking a shot at people running is murder unless in the theater of war.

I am curious as to why you make that distinction. What if the person running is running to a better position from which to shoot at you or your companions?

I am curious as to why you make that distinction. What if the person running is running to a better position from which to shoot at you or your companions?

Well as far as I understand the rules of engagement, that is the stipulation. Police and Feds are not to fire on those who are not an immediate threat. Running away, even to gain a better position, is not considered an immediate threat.

That is why I qualified it with theater of war; which the rules are different and snipers take out unarmed and/or not imminent threat targets all the time.

And don’t get me wrong, the feds are going to shoot back if you shoot at them. Ruby Ridge is held up as some huge conspiracy because they shot racists and racists get in their feels about their own being liquidated.

But per the letter of the law, the sniper was justified in his first shot, but not in his second. He hit an unarmed woman in the face and she died. That is why he got charged but ultimately got off due to qualified immunity.

A transgender woman in New Hampshire has filed a discrimination complaint against her employer for denying her healthcare coverage for gender-affirming care.

Lillian Bernier, 31, has been an employee of New Hampshire-based manufacturing company Turbocam since 2019. She began transitioning in 2020. According to the complaint, filed on December 16 with the New Hampshire Human Rights Commission and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the company’s self-funded health coverage plan says that no benefits will be paid for “gender dysphoria treatment, including but not limited to, counseling, gender reassignment surgery or hormone therapy, and related preoperative and postoperative procedures, which, as their objective, change the person’s sex and any related complications.”

Bernier, the complaint says, suffers from gender dysphoria and requires hormone replacement therapy, counseling, and medically recommended surgeries. As a result of Turbocam’s refusal to cover gender-affirming care, Bernier said she has paid out of pocket for medical care and put off treatment.

The complaint alleges that the company and Health Plans Inc., which administers Turbocam’s health coverage plan, are violating employment nondiscrimination provisions of the New Hampshire Human Rights Act, Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

“I’m proud of my work as a machinist at Turbocam,” Bernier said. “Like everyone else I rely on the pay and healthcare coverage from my job to support myself and my family. I’m just asking for fair coverage and to be treated the same as my coworkers.”

“It’s frustrating and overwhelming not to be treated equally and not to receive the full benefits my coworkers do,” she said in a statement. “I’m paying into the employee health plan like everyone else, but I have to pay completely out-of-pocket on top of that for my healthcare, which is a stress on me and my family. I take pride in my job and work hard, but no matter how much extra effort I put in, I’m not getting the full benefit of my work.”...............

    Caraballo is a fraud

What she said in that tweet is absolutely true. Do you deny what she said is true? How do you explain your favorite “Libs” following and liking tweets from a real scumbag like Tate?

You are straw-manning this like usual.

What did she say that was true? Be specific

That Libs of TikTok follows Tate and has been “liking” his tweets. Can you not read? Also, calling people groomers probably.
Oh gotcha. I thought you were talking about the video I posted where Rep Grace exposed her has a fraud and a hypocrite with her own Tweets and her only response thanks for letting me clarify my position. I'm sure you won't watch that video, but keep calling out people for the sources they post while you post things from a fraud and hypocrite like her.

What she said was true. That’s my criteria for posting something. Is it true? Then who cares what person says it? We need to deal in truth, not blacklisting someone for being wrong in the past.

Oh wow, that's a total change from what you would normally say. You usually try to discredit anything and everything from a certain source that you don't like. Now you are changing your tune because the Caraballo was shown by Mace to be a stochastic terrorist using Caraballo's own BS standards. Its all part of the plan to get views they don't like censored or banned from social media.

No, this is what I have been consistently saying for a loooong time. You are the one who brings up what people have said or done in the past to try to discredit what they are saying now. I post something by Tom Nichols and you say he was wrong about something in the past, and I say I don’t always agree with him but when he says something I do agree with then I will post it.

I don’t know anything about Carabello or what she says or has done in the past, but I think she‘s absolutely correct to criticize Libs of TikTok for being hypocritical especially in this case.

Now if I see some comments from her that are really bad, I would eventually stop listening to her and I wouldn’t see any more of her quotes. I’m not saying I’m perfect, not at all, been fooled before and will be again I‘m sure. But if I am critical of someone, I have good reason.

There are really bad actors carrying out a propaganda objective that should be discredited and should never be taken seriously. And there are sincere people who are wrong sometimes and who sometimes get carried away. I try to discern who is who. Grace can be granted to sincere and honest actors, but not the propagandists. There are absolutely Twitter accounts on the left that I block when I see obvious lies being told.

Plus, weren’t you the one arguing stochastic terrorism isn’t real when it was applied to Libs of TikTok? But now that it’s used against someone you don’t like, it suddenly has merit?

This is HEAVY on confirmation bias. She was not proven to be either a stochastic terrorist, not was she proven to be a hypocrite.

Accosted =/= assaulted. Accosted means approach and address (someone) boldly or aggressively.

If you're asking me, and I think you are, if parents should pick the details of their local school's curriculum my answer is absolutely not. We have professional educators who are trained to do that sort of thing. What would a barber, mechanic, cook, minister, carpenter, banker, car salesman, or small business owner, know about educating a child? Zero, in most cases.

For example, how many of your town's parents did, or would have, attended or contributed to this conference?:

Excellence in Teaching: A Common Goal

Michael G. Cooke, Professor of English, Yale University

    President Giamatti:

Good evening. I want to welcome you to Yale and to New Haven. By coming here from 38 states, American Samoa, the Northern Marianas, and the U. S. Virgin Islands, you have made this a truly national meeting of Chief State School Officers and college and university presidents and chancellors a national meeting of elementary and secondary and higher education which is almost without precedent. A central purpose of this meeting is to draw national attention to the crucial role that higher education can, indeed must, play in strengthening teaching in our schools.

    Dr. Boyer:

The drama of America in its endless town meeting is to me something very beautiful. That is, as de Tocqueville put it, when in doubt, call a meeting. But I don't diminish that, because that signals the priorities that somehow shake us out of the tracks we're on, and the very fact that we leap out of those means something is stirring in our society that needs attention. And so the issue, what have you accomplished? Well, the accomplishment has been that people have come to New Haven.

    Mr. MacNeil:

I read that in your opening remarks you said that there are four problems. You mentioned four problems, nice alliterative problems: "prestige, power, pay, and preparation." Which of those problems . . .

    President Giamatti:

Those are with regard to teachers . . . ?

    Mr. MacNeil:

Yes, with regard to teaching. Which of those problems does this effort, this conference, carve out and potentially solve?

    President Giamatti:

Well, I suppose in an interesting way, we are not going to solve the problems of pay, and we are not going to solve the problems of power, whatever that may mean, in any given institution. The extent to which school teachers and university faculty believe themselves engaged in a common enterprise that has dignity and purpose and "juice" in it, the extent that there are interests of prestige, and self-worth, then I think in fact the mode of collaboration will address that in due course. And I think in terms of preparation, by which I mean the sense of how better to encourage the people who do teach well, to teach better, in ways not only in the boosting of morale which goes to the other point, then I think there have been a great many ways in which that has been addressed, in terms of the various case studies that we saw.

    Mr. MacNeil:

    Mr. Ambach.

    Commissioner Ambach:

I think we leave with a much better understanding of some of the specific projects that are underway. The stress here has been on practice, on what's actually happening, and although there may be some who have known about a particular project in Michigan, or a project in North Carolina, a project in Louisiana, we may not have all known about those projects, and what happened in order to put them in place in the particular locations. So, I think we each carry away a certain, very specific learning about some practice which has gone on elsewhere in the country. And I think we come away with a mutual concern that it is possible to replicate these kinds of practices elsewhere, if we will take the initiative to do so. And I think perhaps, along the lines of prestige, one of the most significant points that has been made is the matter of the colleagueship among those who are in faculties in the colleges and universities and those-who are in the elementary and secondary schools. We have our educational system very much split along horizontal divisions. There is very little vertical connection or integration, if you will, for the most part. And I think some very significant points have been made by way of what it means for the teacher in the elementary or secondary schools to be associated with faculty at the college and university level, in the sense of prestige, but I think more important, in the sense of commitment to scholarship, and a commitment to learning, to being on the forefront of learning, and in the sense, mutual, of an impact on the university level, by way of a better understanding of in fact what is really going on in the schools.

    Mr. MacNeil:

    Yes Ma'am.

    Barbara W. Newell:

Barbara Newell, University System of Florida. If you re adding so substantially to human knowledge, one of our real problems is how do we make sure that all within the educational system share, and it seems to me to be one of the major parts of the New Haven project, one of the very real reasons for the partnership, is to try to make sure that all teachers in the system have an opportunity to know how fields are changing, what the expectations of students are. I think the subject matter in-service training is perhaps the most significant part of the partnership. And as we put our emphasis on subject matter it also seems to me what we re saying is that the partnership has got to be far broader than Schools of Education. It has to cover the entire university community.

    Dr. Boyer:

Finally, I stressed the need to have continued schooling of the teacher. The data are absolutely shocking. Some have told us about forty percent of the teachers have not had continuing education courses over the life of their high school teaching this in science and mathematics as the field is changing. All of these, I stressed this morning, are obligations for both the schools and the colleges, and there are ways in which both of these institutions can focus on what I think is a comprehensive response to the problem of teaching excellence in the schools.

There are 'experts' that believe the bible should be taught in schools. Do you consider their view legitimate? No, you don't. So it turns out, you only believe the 'experts' when they already agree with your stance. Common but you need to be honest about it.

if you have to put experts in parenthesis it doesn't make the point you think it does.
