Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/17/sup...y-that-refuses-to-work-with-lgbt-couples.html

  • The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a unanimous defeat to LGBT couples in a high-profile case over whether Philadelphia could refuse to contract with a Roman Catholic adoption agency that says its religious beliefs prevent it from working with same-sex foster parents.
  • Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

Then I am sure you will admit the same about 'racist', fascist and nazi as well, since you are intelligently honest and all.

Can you think of a book that should not be in an elementary library? What about this:

Those kind of books should never be st a school, or a recommended reading list, etc.

If parents want to let they kids read something like that then that's fine. The school has no business providing that to students.

Saul, I think you hit on something. They must think they can be turned gay, or that children can be turned gay. That’s so sad.

Does anyone think that book would be dangerous for high school students? You know, my mom never censored my reading as a child. She let me pick the books, and I read Helter Skelter and the book about the Kansas family that got murdered (I forget the name - I think it was written by Truman Capote) when I was in grade school. (I read a LOT.) Never felt the urge to murder anyone though, funny that.

Remembered- In Cold Blood
Your mom/parents have every right to let you read what they think is appropriate.

They shouldn't have books like that at schools.

Do you think it's an appropriate book for high school students?

Where do you think I got the books? At the library. I cannot remember if it was the school library or not, it could have been. We couldn’t afford to buy books, except the occasional paperback.

You guys are focusing on this one book - what about the actual award-winning literature that these groups are also promoting to be banned? We just gonna pretend that‘s not happening?

I wouldn’t care if my HS student read it. But I highly doubt the school would assign it without parental permission.

So... it's more likely to turn a child gay? Is there some science behind that?

The thing that's truly ridiculous about that book is how unrealistic that scenario is. You're telling me 2 gay teenagers are texting about sex and cork and they finally hook up with one of them being a virgin and getting sucked, and he's going to have a change of heart and stop because he wants love in that situation at that time? With teenage hormones?

Why are they lying to these kids? I can tell you a gay man didn't write that.

There is a discussion to be had around that, but not using that particular language/context.

The phrase "turning someone gay" has certain implications. Milk turns, and when it turns, it's bad. But when you "turn the corner", then it is good you turned. In the case of "turning someone gay", it is seen as milk turning, as a bad thing, but why? A lot has to do with religion, telling us for centuries that particular behavior is bad. There is also the idea of sex being an activity in which one person surrenders themselves to another, a perceived power dynamic, not very different from rape being more of a power dynamic than mere sexual desire, and men in general don't like to surrender to other men.

Sexual activity between people of the same biology is simply a behavior, and behavior could be innate in a person or developed (even forced) through experiences (even environment), and these experiences could be a number of different experiences, which can include peer pressure, the desire to fit/be accepted within a group, and so fort and so on, or in the case of sex between people of the same biology (pardon the crassness) it could simply be that one day a man got curious about sucking dick, decided to suck dick, and he liked it.

On that last sentence, ask yourself, have you ever tried something that you read in a book or magazine?

So it really comes down to how a particular behavior is perceived, what stigmas or virtues we attach to the behavior. I personally don't attach stigmas or virtues to sex between consenting people of the same biology, so (again, pardon the crassness) if a teenage boy reads the book in question and wants to try sucking dick or have his dick sucked by another consenting boy, by all means, try it: if he likes it, good for him; if he doesn't, life goes on. I wouldn't care to label him either.

Yep.

So you acknowledge you were lying when you said it was in elementary school libraries?
Nope, will you admit you were a big mean liar?

Does a Tampa School Library Book Teach About Gay Sex?

The Florida Standard reported that Pierce Middle School offered "a book promoting gay sex – including instructions on how to use 'hookup apps.'"

Claim:
"This Book Is Gay," a book with sections that teach and advise kids about anal sex, oral sex, and hookup apps, is available to be checked out by students at Pierce Middle School in Tampa, Florida.

After the contentious school board meeting, Fairfax County Public Schools, Virginia’s largest school district, pulled “Gender Queer” and another book, “Lawn Boy” by Jonathan Evison, from school shelves.

Why would they need to pull it books from the shelves if they were not there anyway? That seems odd, does it not? They are in the public school libraries obviously.

I still don't see an elementary school listed in your list.

Man, reading comprehension is not your strong suit! How did you get there from what I posted? Perhaps your indoctrination is so deep that you have been trained to hear or read whatever they want you to.

LET ME BE CLEAR! I DO NOT CONDONE "BOOKS" OF THAT NATURE BEING PROVIDED BY SCHOOL LIBRARIES AS THEY ARE CLEARLY INAPPROPRIATE!!!

Although, I know that the book we are talking about is hoax.
Then we agree completely, so why are you defending it?
Can you explain how this book is a hoax?

Or maybe we need to stop rubber stamping all books just becasue they have the appropriated rainbow flag/LGTBQ group backing.

Can you show me challenged or banned books that are 'award winning'?

You do know there is not a library in the world that has all the books available? Space and money play a factor.

Do you need science to show that a child's mind is impressionable?
If Fauci told you, would you feel better about believing a known human fact that our ancestors living in caves figured out without science?
