Many of Trump's endorsed candidates did not do well on Nov. 8th.

Gov. Ron DeSantis DID do well.
    He won convincingly.
Yet in this OP's opinion, Donald Trump is an egomaniac who is seemingly incapable of putting "Party over Self"
Trump has ZERO chance of being elected our next president.
In my opinion, if Trump would just shut up and go away (fat chance of that)...but "if" Trump did that, Gov. Ron DeSantis would have a CHANCE to be a formidable candidate for President in 2024.
Here is an interesting article on this topic...

What do any of you think re. Trump vs DeSantis?

I don't disagree with any of that, but I'm not sure that conventional wisdom applies to the current version of the Republican Party and primary season. If Trump gets really bogged down with his legal issues, I can see the party turning to DeSantis because I don't see them being supportive of anyone other than Trump or DeSantis. Maybe they'll surprise me, idk.

I think it's in the context of a general election - he's got zero message or personal appeal and doesn't seem to know he's supposed to have it.

Sadly, I think if you replace "party" with "voter" in Dave's quoted post, that's how I feel the general will go. DeSantis will get millions of votes in a close-ish race because every single member of the GOP, from Trump and the national apparatus down to the hardcore base and even a large chunk of supposed independent and undecided voters will still pull the lever simply due to the R next to the name or their own inability to separate truth from tosh.

    But that ain’t nearly enough.

You aren’t winning back Georgia, or Pennsylvania or Arizona or Nevada Wisconsin, or especially Michigan with that nonsense. They got their arse kicked in the midterm and doubled down on the stuff that got them destroyed. Namely taking women’s rights away. That stuff plays (sort of) in the deep south but it doesn’t even play in Nebraska or Kansas. Kansas!

Seriously, I don’t know why anyone is worried about this election with the R’s in their current state. They either nominate a guy that will be indicted three times at least by then or have their party splinter. That is the choice they have on a national level.

And if anyone disagrees, I would love to hear the rationale behind Trumplethinskin’s path to 270, which states are going to flip and why.

And there are some R governors that could easily win the general. Problem is they can’t win their primary.

My fear is largely irrational, I admit. It shouldn't have been close in 2016, but he won. It shouldn't have been close in 2020, but it was. Until I see the GOP implode with my own two eyes in the 2024 general, I'm going to be nervous.

He’s not wrong. Plus the money is coming from industry lobbyists that members of the FL state government are shaking down ahead of the state’s budget process, which is illegal. DeSantis is just as corrupt as Trump, but far less stupid.

I'm going to blame him and his lame arse culture war

According to documents released by the Florida Freedom to Read Project and first reported by the Herald, the poem was removed from circulation after a parent claimed in March that it “is not educational and have indirectly [sic] hate messages.” The same parent brought challenges to four other books: The ABCs of Black History, Cuban Kids, Countries in the News Cuba and Love to Langston.

The complaint also incorrectly attributed Gorman’s poem to Oprah Winfrey.

    so an update to this

“I’m not an expert,” she said. “I’m not a reader. I’m not a book person. I’m a mom involved in my children’s education.”

    (and also, and totally unsurprising)

The advocacy group Miami Against Fascism posted photos of Salinas at rallies with member of Proud Boys and Moms for Liberty, a conservative group that has protested school curriculums that mention LGBTQ rights, critical race theory and other issues. Salinas told JTA that she was not a member of either group, saying she had merely attended rallies where their members were present

Salinas expressed regrets for sharing a Facebook post in March about “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion,” a notoriously antisemitic hoax purporting to describe a Jewish plan for global domination. The original post includes a line about "socialist rule, then communism, then despotism.” Salinas said she saw the word communism, which she abides, and did not read the rest before sharing.

“I want to apologize to the Jewish community,” Salinas told JTA. “I’m not what the post says. I love the Jewish community.”

Remember when your political opponents were treated with dignity and respect? Honestly it really wasn’t that long ago when mainstream politicians wouldn’t use this type of language about their fellow Americans. Ron is a worse person than Trump, I think. With Trump we are dealing with malignant narcissism, but with Ron we are dealing with a full-on dictator wanna-be who wants to eliminate anyone who will challenge his ideas. Think Mussolini, except a religious fanatic. Maybe more dangerous than Mussolini.

My former governor Chris Christie seemingly will add himself to the already lengthy list of GOP hopefuls...

So, DeSantis told an audience in Iowa that conservatives should consider picking up their families and moving to DC to show the “elites” that they cannot shove their agendas down our throats (that’s the gist of what he said, I didn’t record it). What does he think that will accomplish? The people of DC don’t really get represented in Congress, famously. It’s a really weird idea, IMO. Also, him railing about elites is especially weird.

This is precisely my major problem with DeSantis - and from a right-leaning source.

i have always wondered if guys like Desantis truly believe what they spew or if they are really doing it for one reason - votes.

I mean, i cannot believe that someone as educated as Desantis actually believes some of the stuff that comes out of his mouth.

Or maybe he knows its simply a means to an end- the end being authoritarian-like power?

Evil narcissistic, sociopaths can also be intelligent....the R's have plenty of those types, they can also be absolute idiots.....
