Many of Trump's endorsed candidates did not do well on Nov. 8th.

Gov. Ron DeSantis DID do well.
    He won convincingly.
Yet in this OP's opinion, Donald Trump is an egomaniac who is seemingly incapable of putting "Party over Self"
Trump has ZERO chance of being elected our next president.
In my opinion, if Trump would just shut up and go away (fat chance of that)...but "if" Trump did that, Gov. Ron DeSantis would have a CHANCE to be a formidable candidate for President in 2024.
Here is an interesting article on this topic...

What do any of you think re. Trump vs DeSantis?

It's a non-issue, so we're saying we don't need to create laws that require private businesses to both develop new policies, procedures, and infrastructure to support a non-issue.

Your hate costs a lot of useless time and money that could be better used elsewhere.
While I agree, I do think we should just go to unisex bathrooms everywhere and call it a day. There are already some in a lot of public places and converting existing ones will take some money up front, but will resolve the whole bathroom debate eventually.

Do you mean individual stalls for every single public toilet in the country? That's not "some money up front," that's hundreds of billions of dollars.

Or do you mean all restrooms just become anything goes unisex? Because if you're worried about kids seeing penises, that's how you get kids seeing penises.

Individual stalls. I'm not that dumb. And yes it wouldn't be cheap in total, but spread out across the country and every public bathroom, it's really not that much. Just will take a while to get it all done. But it's not that complicated. Communal sinks and fully enclosed stalls. And enclosed changing area for locker rooms.

I doubt it happens because politicians need something to campaign on. A lot of them aren't really interested in solutions.

DeSantis believes (correctly in my opinion) that #1 the media wants Biden to win....and...#2 the media would prefer Biden face the unelectable Trump rather than DeSantis.
I think these two statements ARE correct.
The next part that he mentioned I MIGHT agree with, but I'm not so confident to argue on his behalf.
DeSantis feels the media is happily and deliberately putting out negative stories about him for the purpose of hurting him and thus helping the unelectable Trumpster.

DeathSantis whining about the media wanting something is irrelevant because DeathSantis has less personality than a wet, moldy hot dog bun. In addition, his arrogance is on display. An example? He is going to unilaterally eliminate birth citizenship. Well, it is in the constitution so he would have zero power to do so. He shrieks “woke” every two minutes like other Republicans shriek “socialism” without knowing what either word means.

Perhaps but in fairness to the media, DeSantis is really unlikeable and a terrible executive. It’s not hard to make him look bad.

There is no “the media” - it’s not a monolith, and anyone who talks like it is - well, they’re not being honest. He has some media on his side. And there are some who are really against him. But there are a whole lot who just don’t care either way, but want to get clicks with their stories.

He’s behaving like Trump - “it’s not my fault - it’s everyone out to get me”. Pretty pathetic really.

DeSantis' problem is he's giving the media plenty of negative things to cover. He's a terrible politician frankly. He's trying to be Trump without the charisma Trump has. Unless Trump keels over or the GOP quits him because of his legal issues, DeSantis isn't winning anything.

Heck, if Trump drops out, I think a lot of voters will choose someone other than DeSantis.

But that’s the problem - you can’t ask every single public accommodation in the country to renovate their bathrooms (some of which will incur significant costs) without providing some kind of relief funding.

Which means the federal government will be on the hook for hundreds of billions of dollars, and probably fraud and abuse similar to PPP.

    For a non-issue.

I mean, the problem is that it is an issue. It's a debate that rages in some circles, whether justified or not, and unisex bathrooms are the simplest solution to a part of the issue. Maybe require them as part of any new construction or major renovations that way costs are somewhat built in, and enforce it through building code regulations.

It does resolve only a slice of the overall issue, but I think it actually would be a good step forward in starting to deal with that aspect of the issue.

I don't really see how anyone can say it's a non-issue. The discussion is being had. Maybe it depends on what's happening locally, idk.

It’s a non-issue because there are no real instances of this causing a problem.

Women’s restrooms already are all stalls, with communal sinks. So even if an actual man walks in, he would have to peer under a stall to see anything. A trans woman who hasn’t had surgery wouldn’t really be noticed because she would be in a stall peeing and nobody would see her.

A trans man who hadn’t had surgery would presumably just use one of the stalls, rather than the urinals, and nobody would be the wiser.

This is what has been happening for decades now, and there aren’t really any issues.

It’s like all the “election integrity” issues that Rs keep talking about - they’re made up issues. Rs are just making stuff up to rile everyone up for their own political advantage.

    What @MT15 said.

We can’t seriously shell out hundreds of billions of dollars because republicans made up an issue to get votes.

They’re not actually looking for a solution anyway. They just need a hate target to get votes.

Heck, if Trump drops out, I think a lot of voters will choose someone other than DeSantis.

For all of Trump's character flaws, he was quite careful in 2016 to keep his message about the economy and national security (treating immigration as a national security issue and not a cultural issue). He avoided extensive comment on the culture war. His position on things like gay marriage and trans-issues was neutral to accommodative, not reactionary.

DeSantis seems to fail to recognize that he will have to win a general election if he wins the nomination. Often we see candidates campaign to the base on primaries and then "move to the middle" in the general campaign, but DeSantis won't be able to move to the middle because his rhetoric and his actions have made that impossible. His policies as governor cannot be moderated into something other than a pure, declared culture war against segments of America that a majority of other Americans support.

His lack of charisma is palpable but I agree that his biggest problem is that he's a terrible politician who seems to be utterly ignorant of what he's actually running for - and winning in Florida is not a blueprint. Republicans, with a strong percentage of MAGA Republicans, now make a significant majority in Florida, outnumbering Democrats by 10 percent and (importantly) independents by 30 percent.

Simply throwing cheeseburgers to MAGAs all night and day will not win a general election. Full stop. He seems clueless about this fact as he tries to place himself to the right of Donald Trump, smirking his way along while he paints his fascist picture of how the right views American culture. That shirt ain't gonna win the critical purple states.

I seem to remember Trump making the assertion that women would need to be punished for abortions, though. He did kowtow to evangelicals, who are all about the culture wars. Maybe he was good at keeping it cordoned off from mainstream press or something?

Yeah, he did say that - but then walked it back. You're right the abortion is an example of where he managed to take a pretty hard line and managed to not draw that much attention. It was clear that he was going to take the full anti-abortion stance (with judges/justices).
