    Many of Trump's endorsed candidates did not do well on Nov. 8th.

    Gov. Ron DeSantis DID do well.
    He won convincingly.
    Yet in this OP's opinion, Donald Trump is an egomaniac who is seemingly incapable of putting "Party over Self"
    Trump has ZERO chance of being elected our next president.
    In my opinion, if Trump would just shut up and go away (fat chance of that)...but "if" Trump did that, Gov. Ron DeSantis would have a CHANCE to be a formidable candidate for President in 2024.

    Yeah, and MAGA Twitter (half of them like DeSantis now) thinks it’s just fine because they don’t want 2,000 more “groomers” in their state. It’s just impossible to relate to this mindset. Someone replied to one of them: “do you even know what a job is?” 🤦‍♀️
     
    These things do not appeal to independents. Also, do any of these things make living and doing business in Florida better? I thought those were Republican ideals. This is hyper-regulation.

    Considering how more polarized our nation has become, the percentage of political independents is likely sharply lower than what it was 15-20 years ago. DeSantis is Trump without the MAGA personality cult but he’s come to realize he needs to endear himself to enough of them to have a decent shot at winning GOP 2024 presidential primaries. DeSantis will run and maybe capture some votes, media attention but Trump’s still got enough of the grass roots base and enough of the heavy-hitting R donors that he’ll likely be the 2024 nominee. Now, if he’s indicted and convicted for his election tampering, voter fraud, unlawful interference in a presidential election charges in Ga.( those charges have a lot more teeth and potentially more devastating then the NY charges, plus more likely to get convictions) maybe DeSantis has a chance. But it appears he’s picked a fight with Disney that’s massively backfired and that’s hurt his credibility, image, along with the book bans, and passing laws targeting trans youth.

    I think it’s quite the opposite. Precisely because the base right and left have polarized (moved right and left), the ranks of those who don’t identify with either and are, thus, independent have swelled significantly. Independents now nearly equal Democrats and Republicans combined. Certainly many of those “independents” are effectively one or the other party based on how they vote. But they also tend to be more moderate - and they are where general presidential elections are won and lost because their votes are up for grabs.

    You can be an “Independent” but lean either Democrat or Republican based of how many voters feel towards abortion, gun control/gun rights, pro or anti-death penalty. You have to take these factors into consideration.

    Sure but that’s always been true - that’s just human nature. The reality is that as the parties have moved to extremes, moderates have gone independent. There’s way more independents now than there used to be and their votes are less predictable than when they were party-registered. A successful general election campaign has to win a substantial number of those votes.

    I saw that story earlier today but I didn’t realize where it was. At some point the environment that DeSantis has seeded is going to push corporate America away. Perhaps this is an early indication.

    Agreed. As well as female college students or actually any college student who wants to have freedoms guaranteed under the Constitution, medical practitioners who don’t want to worry about going to jail for providing needed medical care. There are lots of people who won’t want to live in Florida in its current state.

    This part has been really bad for our country. It's left our country rudderless and constantly changing directions. I wish that independent voters would make up their minds in terms of what direction they want our country to move in and had the fortitude to stick with it so that we could at least have some consistency.

    To be fair, the candidates and parties have been moving targets. The parties have shifted on a number of positions and independents are reacting to that. And I think regardless of who's in power, independents abhor the status quo.

    People say that a lot, but what direction have the Democrats moved is so drastically in? They've been advocating for the same things for the last 20 years, and when given the chance they mostly prove their policy goals are better for this country and it's citizenry. So in what what direction have they moved so drastically?

    The Republicans are another thing entirely. They don't even have a direction for this country to move in, unless you consider moving backwards in time a laudable goal.
