Economists have said it would tank the economy and cause inflation - notwithstanding the cost.

I didn’t say it was correct and proper. You assume too much. I blame Biden for a lax ineffective policy that allowed millions of undocumented migrants to come across the border unvetted. I blame Biden for doing nothing about it for years and claiming there wasn’t a problem. I expect LEO to act according to the law. I expect folks who have been deported and subsequently reentered the country illegally to be deported. They already had due process.

He didn’t “do nothing” for years - they worked on the problem in the Central American countries and by his 3-4 year they had made a serious dent in the issues.

My wife and I are planning to, also. It is not a decision without trepidation. Officials used tear gas a few days ago at the ICE protest in our downtown. State officials are unsympathetic and heavy-handed. City police engaged in the use of excessive force during BLM protests, costing the city nearly $30 million in injury settlements. We both think it's important to go but it is with a fear that we haven't felt in the past when attending protests and rallies.

We had a very successful march in my town. So many people that when the first ones were finishing the mile-long loop, there were still people in the first leg of it. Plenty of nice signs, good people, polite and patriotic folks. Couple of my favorite signs-

“The only immigrant stealing our jobs is Elon Musk”

“Childhood vaccines cause adulthood”

Folks driving by honked to show support. Nobody came and heckled - one SUV did an “engine rev” that was pretty noisy and the folks walking just laughed at him. One poor sap drove by in a cybertruck, and got some half-hearted boos and laughs. I felt sorry for him. He shows every day he has incredibly poor judgement in vehicles and then gets booed on the street.

At the park where we ended up it was a very festive atmosphere with food trucks. Highly appropriate that they had a taco truck there - which got cheered when it showed up, lol.

I hope every town had such a good showing. Lots of signs about the Constitution and the rule of law and due process. It was a good time.

But since you asked: DACA and every other person here who have been law-abiding need a path to citizenship. We need to fix the backlog and start letting these people who come here to find work do it legally. Veterans of our armed forces especially need an expedited path to citizenship.

We need to quit trying to deport people who are an asset to our country. We need to quit allowing people to buy their way in. This country has benefited from poor immigrants for decades. Immigrants have enriched our country and they still do so today. Rich immigrants seem problematic to me, but I don’t expect to have a policy against them, but they shouldn’t be fast-tracked either.

What is happening now is the worst possible way to treat people. The worst. It’s inexcusable and horrible.

I'm going with my daughters here in Portland. We went a month ago and it was as calm a protest as u have seen -because there were no agitators like normal. It was weird. There was no one starting fights or even carrying Trump stuff at all.

I would agree that we need to provide a way for undocumented migrants that follow our laws and are here to work a means to work and pay taxes legally. A pathway to citizenship is a different matter. They didn’t come here to vote. They came here to work. So let’s figure out how to make that happen.

People who migrate legally should have a pathway to citizenship. I have a problem rewarding bad behavior with a pathway to citizenship. Adherance to our immigration laws should mean something.

That said, I am not a hard no on a pathway. I just consider it a separate issue.

Fix the border. Fix the Visa program. Keep them fixed and figure out a way to allow folks who are already here to work and support themselves.

Nobody is saying all undocumented migrants are “bad”. They are simply here illegally. Ignoring that fact won’t change anything.

i haven’t seen the numbers regarding the amount of taxes are paid by illegals. I would be curious to know where you got that number and how it was determined.

I do know that many undocumented workers don’t pay taxes under their social security numbers. They pay them under someone else’s number. I have seen this more than once.

We need to develop a strategy which secures the border, deports illegal aliens that aren’t here to work but are here to cause trouble, allows the remainder to legally work and pay taxes to support themselves and their families.

I am not interested in a bill that allows 1500 per day to enter the country illegally. I never understood such logic.
