It’s so repulsive to see people cheering for what is basically 80% the same thing as the Holocaust - different end result but otherwise very similar.

Economists have said it would tank the economy and cause inflation - notwithstanding the cost.

Is it going to actually happen or is this Build The Wall 2.0?

The Democrats aren't going to support a fascist Republican party and Trump administration. The GOP and Trump need to correct their behavior first and start doing things within the bounds of the constitution. They can start by following court orders, stop lying in court, and stopping the illegal overreach by DOGE. It would help if people like yourself held them accountable, but you're way to focused on Democrats. Who currently have no power.
I have no more influence on the GOP than you. Not a party member. I don’t donate a penny to the cause.

I focus on Democrats because that is what most of you are. Believe me I have similar disagreements when I talk to Republicans.

The family residential section of U.S. Naval Air Station Key West, Florida, is usually a very pleasant place, with military families from the Navy, Coast Guard, and Marine Corps enjoying the sunny respite of a golden duty station like Key West.

At least it was until the Department of Homeland Security and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, under the direction of Donald Trump's lackeys, abandoned their vital mission of keeping military families safe and instead became a Gestapo-like force imprisoning them.

Just when you thought the Trump administration couldn't sink any lower, it just moved to deport the wife of an active-duty Coast Guardsmen.

The military spouse's crime? An expired work visa. It is unclear if any children had to witness this act of terror in the very place they should be safest, a military family community.

DHS oversees both Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Coast Guard. Using their knowledge and inside information, DHS officials have turned their power against one of their own, arresting an active duty Coast Guard wife who was attempting to find on-base housing at Naval Air Station Key West.

There has been debate on whether the arrested military spouse was home alone, with her husband being deployed or on temporary duty somewhere, as the Associated Press reported that the Coast Guardsman's ship, the USCGC Mohawk (WMEC-913), has been in port at Key West since mid-March.

Either way, what a dastardly move by the Trump Administration to attack someone and their family who has done more for this country than Trump ever could. After returning from a long deployment defending democracy, the Coast Guardsman's reward will be having his wife deported.............

Trump's War on the Vulnerable Has Now Reached Military Families

I didn’t realize this was some kind of game for you.

According to US News and World Reports

She faces charges of “concealing an individual to prevent his discovery and arrest” and obstructing or impeding a proceeding.

I dont have the actual code section but I believe it is broadly known as “Obstruction of Justice”. It involves proving intent. So it will be up to a judge and/or a jury to decide if it goes to trial. There appears to have been enough evidence to charge and arrest her.

They could say she's facing charges of cattle rustling and stealing a hot air balloon, but that wouldn't make it so. She was not legally obligated to help, and she was not legally prohibited from pointing out the existence of multiple exits from her courtroom.

You hold them accountable by not voting for them. By actively voting for Democrats. The only way a political party will hold themselves and their colleagues accountable is when it's the only way to regain power.

Whether she was alone or not is irrelevant. This shouldn't have happened to begin with.

We will see how the court comes down on this I guess. You may be right.

I am a conservative. That is how I vote. I will consider moderate alternatives. But as I said earlier, I am not going to pull the lever on a candidate(s) I cannot support.

So if I read this correctly, we can expect Democrats to hold themselves and their party accountable. I guess we will see.

I'm old enough to remember a bi-partisan deal reached in Congress to address much of the immigration and border crisis. It was a deal that many said was the best progress Congress has made in years on the situation.

Trump torpedoed it because he didn't want Democrats to be seen as having a "victory" on one of his key issues.
Prior to that, there was a deal on the verge of happening, but 9/11 happened and ruined that chance.

It is a huge pissing match.

What we should be doing is crafting legislation that addresses immigration including asylum that is acceptable to both Democrats and Republicans. We aren’t going to deport 20 million people. It is cost prohibitive. The administration has greatly reduced undocumented traffic across the border. Now is the time to figure out how and where we go from here.
.
They did that, remember?

And Trump killed the bill because it would have helped Biden politically.

That won't be enough

A state/district that usually goes red by 15 points going red by 2 points won't change anything, close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades

The democrat winning by 2 points won't change anything other than the Republicans biding their time (and revving up the outrage/misinformation machine) because when everything isn't perfect and everyone's not a millionaire in 2 or 4 years people will either vote red again or at least not vote blue and that's all they need

Not only has to be a landslide, needs to be a continued landslide for probably at least a decade, then maybe, just maybe the GOP will change

Fortune 500 company abruptly fires lawyer who helped immigrant family

On March 4, Clay Jackson, an attorney in the Dallas area, was at a gas station near his home when the attendant asked if he would help a local immigrant family. The family's father, who is undocumented, had been targeted in an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) workplace raid. His wife is also undocumented, but their youngest child is a U.S. citizen. Jackson agreed.

The executive suggested that providing assistance to an undocumented immigrant family could constitute professional misconduct and damage the company. The executive also said that Jackson's complaints about his boss's lack of understanding constituted a resignation.

Jackson responded that he was not resigning. The company fired him a few weeks later, hours after Balko's story was published, offering this explanation: "Unsatisfactory performance and violations of company policy." The company did not detail what policies Jackson allegedly violated.

If at first you don’t succeed, try again. Republicans say immigration is broken. Democrats say it’s broken. Republicans wanted the border closed first. Undocumented migration is down. Now might be a good time to try again.

Just sayin. We can’t deport 20 million people. Makes no sense logistically and financially and legally. So this seems like a good time to try and figure a solution. It’s worth a try.

Republicans have said they don't need any legislation to fix immigration. They said that many times over during the Biden Administration. It seems you have one side to convince more than the other.

Republicans would first need to draft legislation that Democrats are willing to support. That is not going to happen under this administration and the cucked congressional Republicans.

If you believe the Trump administration will rein in ICE’s current tactics — masked agents detaining people without judicial warrants and deporting them to offshore detention camps — you’re being dangerously naive.

Let’s be clear: these are violations of due process and human rights. Any Democrat who makes a deal under these conditions becomes complicit in those abuses.

So no — it’s not worth a try. Not when the price is undermining the rule of law and enabling cruelty.

Oh, it's definitely going to take millions and millions of people like Joe to pull their heads out of their arses to do what needs to be done.

I'm only discussing your comment about holding politicians accountable. I told you how to do it, but you won't. If you won't take a simple step to hold them accountable, then you can keep your complaints to yourself because you are part of the problem.

I am sitting in jury duty, waiting to see if I have to be an actual juror or if I can go home so I have time to waste to respond.

So let me get this straight. When Dems held the Senate and WH, there is a bi-partisan bill to overhaul the border policy. Trump kills it and is on record as saying he didn't want Biden to score political points. If a was political hit job that caused real damage. But you don't care about that.

Now? You have the House, the Senate and the WH.

Why are you blaming democrats for this? You don't need democrats to do shirt. They are powerless (and spineless) for the most part. You want a Bill? Pass one. It's that simple.

Bi-partisan!? Please. Sell that somewhere else. There is nothing about this current congress or WH that is bipartisan. Nothing.

They are taking a leak on the Constitution and are ignoring the courts. But suddenly they are going to reach across the aisle for Medicare or the border or anything? I hope you really aren't that naive.

Republicans don't care about legislation. All they care about revenge, money, or both. And you are one of them. So which is it for you? Revenge or money?

The fact is, the moment that a bill is passed with bipartisan support you can't complain about it any more. Once there is new policy, there is no more bogeyman. Well at least not until a dem is in charge again, then it will be the number one problem that Dems refuse to fix - along with Biden's horrible tariffs! (You know it's coming)

That is a reasonable alternative to the current pissing match. We need to get away from simply ignoring laws and processes we don’t like and start working the thru these issues legislatively. The alternative simply erodes confidence and trust in government. Neither party benefits in the long run.

Border crossings in November of 2024 were at or below border crossings in November of 2020.

Border crossing today aren’t really that much lower than they were 6 months ago when you look at the big picture.
