This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

Hillary Clinton sometimes could be her own worst enemy and occasionally did make statements, or comments that were suspect, or detrimental to her winning over skeptical independents. There's always been this sense of controversy around her. When Obama ran for DNC nomination in 2008 (and eventually won the presidency), I talked to some of his supporters who said she struck them as a smarter, calculating left-wing version of Bush 43. Its no secret there was a significant, discernable amount of tension between the Obama and Clinton campaigns during that 2008 DNC runs.

I sometimes got the impression that while Obama trusted and believed in Hillary's vast experience, determination, tenacity in handling foreign policy issues. The successful raid on Osama bin Laden's compound in Abbottobad, that eliminated the al-Qaida founder/leader was largely due to her and Leon Panetta's painstaking, intelligence-gathering over several years, but I also suspected he didnt really trust her, on a personal level. He kept her at an official administrative arm's length, and part of me also suspects that Pres. Obama saw her privately, as a bit of "power-mongerer". It says a lot when I keep hearing, after many years, very liberal Dems tell me that Hillary Clinton was someone who scared the shirt out of them. Some of them were actually well-educated, professional, IT/tech-company managers, supervisors, or encryption specialists.
Lets be clear here, Hillary Clinton was a target of the right wing smear team since it became evident that she was the real threat to Republican power since Bubba's 1st term. Through their campaign of misinformation, they have convinced people that she is the Devil and that campaign coupled with Bill's infidelity, hardened her making her less personable.

Yup, add to the long line of conservative boogiemen.

You can't blame part of the hardening of her public perception, and polarized political identity on just GOP white-washing. Its her dumbass, stupid, morally.weak husband who did that. Repeatedly and unashamedly, too. He tried to bury Lewinsky in the Pentagon because he saw he made a mistake in starting a sexual affair in the White House with a 22-year old intern, regretted it because he didnt want to risk a sexual affair tainting him winning re-election, but not before an embittered ex-WH staffer he'd exiled her forked him back just like all those other scandalous affairs.

That part's not on Republican congressman, senators, legislators, then or now, they didnt make or force Bill to have those adulterous affairs, and them him self-righteously believe he'd throw them away once he get bored or became too politically expedient to have them around anymore. They burned his arse back then and her husband deserved it. There's a political adage that says you don't hand the sword over to the enemy during a war, well, thats exactly what Clinton's numerous extramarital affairs led to. Just like Pres. Nixon lying about and trying to obscure key evidence tying him to the Watergate break-in at the DNC headquarters because he was too loyal to his political operatives and friends who were burglars themselves convicted or implicated in the planning and execution of the break-in at DNC headquarters, like John Mitchell, I believe John Dean has some culpability and turned on Nixon to partly save his arse because he saw the officially, carefully arranged Watergate cover story wasnt going to keep the wolves away forever and he saw a very long prison sentence in the future, so he avoided it by turning state witness. His wannabe "reformed choir boy" image has always struck me as a bit forced, and over-worked.

I'll always have a germ of contempt and loathing for the Clintons and how their hubris gave us Dubya and Trump.

Meh…. Dubya, sure.. I’ll give you that.. but i dont blame Hillary , or the Clintons, for Trump.. i blame the tens of millions of people that were “rubbed the wrong way” or whatever by Hillary and somehow, someway they thought that the Trump s***show would be a better alternative.

I seriously think she wins if just picked Sanders as her VP. There was even leaked audio of Trump admitting he was terrified HRC was going to pick Sanders. A true political genius would have probably made that pick regardless. You co-opt the progressive movement for the price of giving a largely ceremonial position.

HRC came across as a hypocrite whereas Bernie sounded genuine. HRC pandered to voters over the top whereas Bernie did not know how to pander. IN any eventHRC was the wrong candidate in 2016, it was a perfect storm for Republicans. In the Dems run Minnie Mouse in 2016 they win. It was basically anyone, but HRC.

Our binary political system is forcing us into conflict.

Why can’t someone be pro life and pro gun control?

Why can’t somebody be for the freedom of a baker to refuse making a cake for a gay wedding, but for wealthy people paying higher taxes to support social programs?

Why can’t someone be against covid specific vaccine mandates but support Medicare for all?

There are no philosophical reasons for our political divisions. People born into this situation assume it is normal, and align their opinions accordingly.

Democrats and Republicans can’t afford for there to be any overlap because they are playing a game, and the easiest way to win is to paint yourself as good and the other team as evil.

We need to break up both political parties. I think a good start would be every election having non partisan primaries, like Louisiana does for its state elections.

I an a centrist and that is a great post.

I favor Medicare for all, but I do not care for progressives with their cultural war nonsense.

I have no issues with the LGBTQIA crowd, but I am not a fan of condescending bigotry of low expectations that white liberals apply to black people.

I have no issues with abortion, but despise the monopoly the left wants on education where they do not allow poor people school choice.

I used to love the tolerance of old fashioned liberals and hate the intolerance of the modern SJWs. Paradoxically the right is now more tolerant and courteous.

I agree.. it’s people deciding they need to “pick a side” that’s literally tearing America apart.

Paul, you made the assertion, you need to support it. I’m not doing your homework for you.

It just makes no sense that you would go tribal over this. Lol.

Look, I think people from both sides can be real stinkers. But where I live the Trump supporters are extremely rude and obscene. I cannot count the number of signs and flags with curse words they fly to “support” Trump. We comment on it all the time. We would never consider putting out such words in front of our house or business. But they are common.

And the death threats to election workers and public health officials? Yes, they’re so very courteous and tolerant.

This guy is either so stupid that he is ignorant of the Bill of Rights, or he’s lying.

I agree, completely in fact. I've always believed we need a more open, plurality political electoral system which allows for the creation, and existence of actual legitimate third-parties or multiple parties where other "voices"---- center-right, center-left, social democratic political parties are allowed to have a legitimate chance to prosper and we won't always be a two-party political system under the significant threat of becoming a one-party, authoritarian dictatorship when the other party loses the script too much and becomes irrevalent.

"A recent poll by the Survey Center on American Life at the American Enterprise Institute found that Democrats are twice as likely as Republicans to report ending a friendship over a political disagreement (20% versus 10%). Liberals are also “far more likely than conservatives are to say they are no longer friends with someone due to political differences” (28% versus 10%). However, “no group is more likely to end a friendship over political differences than liberal women — 33% responded they stopped a friendship over politics.”
