This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

The article I have copied and pasted is NOT suggesting Trump should drop out and Nikki Haley should take over. This article eventually makes the point that Speaker Mike Johnson should model his approach to MAGA and Trump vs doing what is best for all the down ballot races....Speaker Johnson should take a page out of the Nikki Haley playbook.
My intro here is not perfect but I hope some people find this article to be interesting...

Mike Johnson IS MAGA, isn’t he? There isn’t any daylight between him and Trump, so I’m a bit confused.

    Well let me help you.
Mike Johnson will only continue to be the Speaker of the House if the Rs manage to maintain their majority. Even if Trump is elected the next President...he will only serve those 4 years and then he is done. The author of the article recognizes that Speaker Johnson might or at least should try to walk a tightrope between MAGA and the Rs in Congress who are not actually MAGA. As Speaker of the House Johnson should promote ALL Rs regardless of their MAGAness or LACK of MAGAness.
The article's author takes awhile to get to the point, but eventually says that Nikki Haley is a good role model for how Johnson should proceed.....AND I see that the author also suggests Trump should swallow his pride and actively bring Haley into the campaign. She could only help.

Okay. Here’s a couple of issues with that noble effort.

Trump is incapable of swallowing his pride, and anyone who suggests that he should do that is being completely unrealistic.

MAGA historically never considers anyone who doesn’t comoletely toe the MAGA line. No dissension is brooked, anyone who strays even slightly is purged from the party. We’ve seen this for years now. Johnson is as MAGA as they come. He led the charge to throw out a valid election in 2020. He could reach out now, I suppose, but if he does he will be demonized by MAGA as a RINO.

Your point in your last sentence is the incredibly annoying thing for me. Trump and his MAGAites....THEY are the Republicans in NAME only. I am/was a Republican and THEY are NOT Republicans. They are MAGA. MAGA is NOT REAL Republicanism but rather a movement which will thankfully eventually fade. How many years that will take....I don't know.

...and "Yes", as a registered voter I left the Republican Party. I'm unaffiliated. Yet if the people on my side of the aisle ever return to their senses and they return to where they were philosophically in the Pre Trump days...I would consider returning to the GOP.

Where's @DaveXA ? I haven't exchanged posts with you in awhile. It's been too long. I'm really hammering the boring MAGAs on the other platform I participate in "The Politics Forums". I wish the rules HERE allowed me to copy and paste that...but I know that it isn't allowed.

Under my 3 *s is me now coming back to add to my previous post. Dave I just "burned my bridges behind me" over on "The Politics Forums". I can't go back....nor do I want to. Everyone over there is like Snarky Snark :ROFLMAO:
I just can't take it anymore.

Let me help you. If Mike Johnson follows Haley's lead and does everything you suggest he do, then Mike Johnson will have as much success as Haley did with Republican voters. Remind me again how Haley's approach worked out for Haley with Republican voters?
When Dems, Inds and Rs were polled in equal measure....and as a nation, registered voters were asked who they would vote for in a hypothetical three candidate race, Biden, Trump or Haley....well Haley did quite well!
The problem isn't Haley, the problem is the foolish people have been sucked up into the Trump cult.

But people like Haley, in the end, don’t fight against the cult. They appease it by declaring themselves members of the cult. Anyone who actually bucks the cult gets thrown out. Put simply, you cannot be a viable GOP politician today without bending the knee to one man. Not to a party. Not to principles. To a man.

    Well I hate that!

I've been there with other political boards and this is the only one I visit regularly. I remain a fiscal conservative, but I can't in good conscience align with Republicans as long as the party is endorsing Trump for President. I'm l'm gonna be happy voting for Harris at this point. She's really acquitted herself well since Biden stepped down and I think she'll ultimately be a very capable President.

As for the MAGAs over there...hardly surprising, lol. They're lost in the cult of Trump. Not much we can do about it other than vote.

In the words of one of the speakers at the DNC that is/used to be GOP: voting for Harris doesn’t make you a Democrat, it makes you a Patriot.
Precisely. I love my country more than any political party. Trump is a threat to my country. Harris isn't. The stakes are high, but the choice should be obvious.

Thanks for responding. Have a good day sir!

Steve - one thing I just thought of. I don’t think there is any issue with you copying and pasting your posts from another board as long as you don’t link to that board or promote it as an alternative to this one.
