This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

Utah’s senior senator, having survived a reelection challenge from an independent candidate backed by state Democrats, is launching a two-pronged assault on companies that host pornography on their websites.

Mike Lee unveiled the twin pieces of legislation this past week, stating an intent to protect children online. One bill, dubbed “Shielding Children's Retinas from Egregious Exposure on the Net (SCREEN)”, is clearly aimed at doing so, and would require such websites to ask users to provide their age before viewing content.

But a second piece of legislation introduced by the senator on the same day takes a much broader cudgel against pornographic content, and would remove a key protection that sexually explicit content currently enjoys in the United States.

As of right now, the right of Americans and others to share such content across state lines in the US (including online) is protected by the so-called “Miller Test”, a three-step test outlined by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in a 1973 ruling which determines when protected sexual content crosses the line into the unprotected realm of “obscenity”.

Mr Lee’s legislation would eliminate one of those steps, specifically the one defining “obscenity” as content that “depicts or describes” sex “in a patently offensive way”.

Removing that language would mean that all sexual content, offensive or not, would fall into the unprotected definition of obscene content, which is prohibited from being transmitted across state lines, as well as between individuals in certain states……..

Thank god someone is dealing with the problem that plagues all Americans...

Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has shared details of the new rules that will govern the House of Representatives when Republicans take charge on Tuesday.

The proposed rules, which will have to be passed on January 3, include a resolution to create a subcommittee to probe "the Weaponization of the Federal Government" under President Joe Biden's administration.

The new GOP majority will first have to elect a speaker on Tuesday before adopting the rules package and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has used the rules as way to make concessions to members who are opposed to his election as speaker.

"We are so serious, it's not just a goal, it's a rule," Greene tweeted on Sunday, and added what appeared to be a quote from the rules package: "Establish the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government to investigate the full extent of the Biden Administration's assault on the constitutional rights of American citizens."..........

Margie Three-Toes is bat shirt crazy. Shame on GOP leadership and the idiots that elected her for allowing this to continue.

No one in the GOP knows what shame is so why waste breath telling them about something they have no idea about nor car to know? There is no shame in the GOP. If there were even a modicum of shame with any member of the GOP, we wouldn't be where we are today.

Republican-leaning areas of the United States saw a “sharp rise’ in births after Donald Trump’s presidential win in 2016, dubbed the “Trump baby bump”.

However, Democratic counties experienced a baby slump, a new study has revealed……..

The new Republican majority in Congress has decided to remove the metal detectors that outgoing Speaker Nancy Pelosi installed outside the House chamber after the Capitol riot on January 6, according to Rep Lauren Boebert.

“When I arrived in Congress two years ago, Nancy Pelosi put this hunk of garbage outside of the House chambers for members of Congress to go through,” Ms Boebert of Colorado said in a video in front of a metal detector being hauled down on Tuesday. “Today, they are being removed and we are turning Pelosi’s house back into the People’s House.”

Republican members of the chamber chafed against the presence of the metal detectors, meant to keep members safe in the midst of an increase in political violence in the US and fears that Republican members were carrying weapons onto the floor.

On numerous occasions, Republican members of the House like Ms Boebert and Rep Matt Gaetz of Florida attempted to reach the House floor without going through the security checkpoints, in some cases pushing past Capitol police officers to get there.

Democrats established fines for not going through the security checkpoints — $5,000 for a first offence, $10,000 for a second offence — and the House Ethics Committee ended up levying fines to six members in 2021 including Reps Louie Gohmert of Texas, Andrew Clyde of Georgia, and Rep Lloyd Smucker of Pennsylvania.

GOP lawmakers accused Ms Pelosi herself of failing to enter the chamber through a security checkpoint shortly after they were installed.

The conflict over the metal detectors was one of several issues Republicans took with the Democrats’ logistical operation of the House during the last Congress. Republicans also incurred fines for refusing to wear masks on the floor of the House, while police found a gun during a security screening of Rep Andy Harris of Maryland in January of 2021.........

Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of Twitter and Tesla, calls it "woke mind virus." Populist Republicans like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis call it "corporate wokeness.

'Woke' – a watchword long embraced by the Black community – has been co-opted by GOP activists, officials and lawmakers as a culture-war rallying cry against progressive activism. And conservatives across red America are using it to score political points as they try to stop corporations from taking public positions on political issues and social causes from abortion to immigration.

“We will never surrender to the woke mob," DeSantis said during the inaugural address for his second term this week. "Florida is where woke goes to die.”

Republicans say they're fighting back against the unchecked influence of liberal activists in executive suites and boardrooms.

Grievances include Delta Air Lines opposing Georgia’s restrictive voting laws and Citigroup paying for Texas employees to travel out of state for abortions. Companies suspending campaign donations to Republicans who denied the result of the 2020 presidential election following the Jan. 6 Capitol attack worsened tensions.

“None of this has anything to do with running their companies,” said Matt Schlapp, chair of the American Conservative Union. “Is it really the job of a corporate CEO to be the head of the DNC, the head of the AFL-CIO or the head of Planned Parenthood?”

Why conservatives are fighting 'woke' corporations

In a report prepared for the National Center for Public Policy Research, “Balancing the Boardroom: How conservatives can combat corporate wokeness,” the movement lays out its reasoning: “American corporations, hyper-politicized and corrupt as many may be, are among the few public institutions where there’s still a fighting chance to reverse course.”

Corporations have emerged as an important force in American life, says David Primo, a professor of political science and business administration at the University of Rochester

“They are doing this because they believe the corporate voice matters,” Primo said. “If they didn’t think the corporate voice mattered, nobody would be pressuring corporations.”.........

I've never heard of that guy before. Seems like anyone can call a press conference these days.
