This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

Sadly, a huge proportion of the white electorate Does. Not. Care.
Worse than that. A significant portion of the white electorate actually likes it.

Edit to add: Let's not forget that Trump's introduction to presidential politics was to deny that our first black president was an American. Knowing that, the electorate voted for him anyway. I would say as much because of that as despite that.

Guess no one here has seen John Kennedys commercial ? "Call a crackhead"
I saw it. Unfortunately, he is a shoe in to win here in Louisiana where the majority of our poor and uneducated fully support being poor and uneducated as long as their leaders are republican. Here in Louisiana, our voters who will benefit the most from public assistance will gleefully pull the lever for those who promise to cut public assistance as long as there is an (R) behind their name. It's no coincidence that states where illiteracy and stupidity reign are controlled by republicans. Republicans love the votes of the poor and uneducated while hating the poor and uneducated.

Add to that, the democratic voters that do vote in this state are more concerned about stupid issues such as street renaming, monuments, and other trivial things instead of voting for quality candidates that will do the job. I guarantee you that if Karen Carter would run for office again she would win. Speaking of elected Democrats in this state, why haven't they joined together and put their support behind a single candidate to run against this clown? Is it because they are all out for themselves instead of what is good for their voters?

On that list of candidates, it's hard to find a serious candidate for the Senate and that includes the incumbent! Kennedy is an embarrassment and to say that he's an Oxford grad should let everyone know that he's a fake and has no integrity, he'll do or say anything in order to remain in power.

Hell, I don't think I've seen a commercial for anyone other than Kennedy.

Luke Mixon is the only other candidate that has a commercial and that was nothing more than him introducing himself...and GoPro footage from his time as an AD Naval Aviator, piloting a F-18.

    Big whoop

Agreed. Democratic voters in Louisiana, and many other red states, have been abandoned by the DNC. While I have a low opinion of Cedric Richmond, he does have a following and he's done nothing with his influence to put forth quality candidates. Neither has the Landrieu's. Where's our Stacy Abrahams?

There's no traction in Louisiana for a prototypical Democrat and many of the current ones outside of New Orleans usually align with Republicans on most social issues.

Well, I'm not a "prototypical Democrat" and I'm sure there more of us out there that could use the DNC's support if finding a candidate that speaks to us. The only "single issue" measure that really moves the needle with me is democracy and the Republicans are against democracy. On a macro level, the Republicans are more interested in turning back the clock on every advancement the country has made since the 60's and that is the reason I will vote against them every time.

I would like to vote for candidate that is more concerned about its law abiding citizens than the criminal taking advantage of them. Police & prison reforms are desperately needed, but being soft on crime is not the answer, deterrence is necessary and criminals have shown that measures implemented by some municipalities are a joke to them.

I don't care about student loans, I am more concerned about the cost of higher learning. I have a personal theory about the skyrocketing cost of higher learning but that just leads down a conspiracy laden rabbit hole.

Despite the weak-minded beliefs, OUR BORDER IS NOT OPEN, however we need immigration reform, it should not take an act of god to become an US citizen. If our immigrations system wasn't so broken and filled with ill will, more would seek legal entry instead of abusing the asylum process or crossing illegally.

I don't give a rat's arse about these stupid confederate monuments and street names, they mean less than nothing to me! Any politician running on those issues are not focused on the real issues and I won't be considering voting for them. If they want to act against them on their own free will, go for it, but that will not be a reason why I would vote for them.

Other priorities of mine are education, healthcare and the economy, but as I said earlier the attack on our democracy by the Republican party is the most important issue we face as a nation.

Edit: Crap, I forgot a huge one for La, INFRASTRUCTURE!!!! Whether it be local roads, interstate highways, government buildings or the biggest of hem all, UTILITIES!!! They are all in failing conditions.

The U.S. military is under assault, as I noted recently, from MAGA extremists who seek to harness it to carry out their malign agenda — and who disparage anyone who stands in their way as a “woke loser.”

This is arguably the most dangerous civil-military challenge since the heyday of McCarthyism in the 1950s.

The military is rightly eager to stay out of politics, but this laudable instinct can lead it to run away from controversy even at the cost of ceding the information battlefield to the far-right forces trying to subvert American democracy.

The treatment of Maj. Gen. Patrick J. Donahoe is a case in point. Until recently, this combat veteran was commander of the Maneuver Center of Excellence at Fort Benning in Georgia, home of the Army’s infantry and armor schools.

Now, his retirement is being held up while Army leadership considers how to respond to an inspector general’s investigation that concluded that he had “failed to display Army values and core leader competencies.”

(I obtained a copy of the inspector general’s report, which has not been publicly released. Neither the Army public affairs office nor Donahoe responded to my repeated requests for comment.)

    What did Donahoe do wrong?

Ironically, his only offense was to champion on social media the very values the Army claims to stand for.

Having a senior officer defend the Army’s policies should not be seen as improper involvement in politics — but that is how it is being portrayed, not just by the Army’s right-wing critics but also by the Army’s own inspector general.

It all began in March 2021 when Fox “News” host Tucker Carlson expressed outrage over Air Force plans to develop a maternity flight suit. “It’s a mockery of the U.S. military,” huffed Carlson at the time, arguing that while “China’s military becomes more masculine,” ours becomes “more feminine.”

In reply, Donahoe posted on Twitter a video of himself conducting a reenlistment ceremony for a female soldier. “Just a reminder,” he wrote, “that @TuckerCarlson couldn’t be more wrong.”

Donahoe’s retort earned the ire of the MAGA right. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), who had compared the “emasculated” U.S. military unfavorably with the supposedly more macho Russian army, sent a letter of complaint to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, falsely accusing Donahoe and other officers who defended the role of women in the military of expressing partisan political views……

And what are the Dems doing about it? If Senator Cruz started this mess, shouldn't a Dem Senator speak up?
