This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

LOL Jesus Christ, just pass the prescription drug thing he's seemingly agreeable to and be done with it. Salvage some sort of win heading in to November.

I know this didn't get hyped up like before but this shirt where the Democrats continue wasting time on shirt that won't pass and consequently won't benefit them politically continues to make little sense to me.

Do they not realize by now Manchin is forking with them and is in a unique position amongst them to gain politically by doing this? Surely they do.

So then I guess they must believe this hopeless song and dance with Manchin needs to be performed in order to show the liberals that they're trying? Does that not then imply they believe those liberals aren't smart enough or tuned in enough or whatever to recognize the reality of the situation? That they're not actually attempting to pass something but only really intent upon giving off the appearance of trying really hard to do so.

And on cue:

“After decades of fierce opposition from powerful special interests, Democrats have come together, beaten back the pharmaceutical industry and are prepared to give Medicare the power to negotiate lower drug prices and to prevent an increase in health insurance premiums for millions of families with coverage under the Affordable Care Act,” Biden said in a statement.

“The Senate should move forward, pass it before the August recess, and get it to my desk so I can sign it,” he said.
...
“Action on climate change and clean energy remains more urgent than ever,” he said. “So let me be clear: if the Senate will not move to tackle the climate crisis and strengthen our domestic clean energy industry, I will take strong executive action to meet this moment.”

Need a much steeper drop off between Eisenhower and Nixon, lol.

Probably not the best idea
=================================
A tense moment took place on the front porch of a candidate running for State Representative in Missouri, local news outlet Fox2 reports.

Home surveillance video of the incident shows a man from St. Charles walking up to the front door of Buddy Hardin, a Republican running for the 106th District seat. Hardin was not at home, but his wife answered the door and met the man who was holding one of Hardin's campaign mailers in his hand, which was defaced with profanity.

“Tell him to leave his ‘Pro-Trump’ (expletive) on his own (expletive) porch. Him and Trump, he’s a treasonist… (expletive ) Republicans, (expletive) him, and (expletive) your husband. “I hope he gets shot by a kid with an AR…,” the man said before the video ends. Hardin’s wife told police the man said he hoped that she and her grandchildren get shot, too.

“All I put [on the mailer] was 'Pro-Trump' not even policies about Trump,” said Hardin. “That was enough to make him think he should walk out of his house, get into his car, drive three miles … it’s a series of decisions that he made that all led to this not-good situation because my wife was in fear at that point. When I saw [the video] I was in fear, too.”............

This is nothing but chickens coming home to roost. That man was just visiting his neighbor to ask them not to put political literature on his property. That was a perfect neighborly visit.

As satisfying as it is, I don’t think we should condone this behavior. And it’s only satisfying because we’ve seen Rs either express or tacitly support this violent rhetoric for years now. But we need to resist the impulse to respond in kind, because doing so will only be a win for the fascists, who desire such chaos in order to slip into power. The Rs continue to ignore the violence (both actual and verbal) from their base. As my old boss used to say about leadership, what you permit you promote. Rs don’t care about violence against their rivals. They show us this every day. We shouldn’t go down that road with them.

“Before Jan. 6, 2021, such silence from GOP leaders might have been overlooked. But we live in a new world. That attack was a violent effort to keep Trump in power after he lost the election, yet a recent CBS News poll finds that a majority of Republicans view the attack as either an act of “patriotism” or an act “defending freedom.” The results of that poll are as bone-chilling as the threats to Kinzinger and his family.

Today’s GOP isn’t the political party we once knew. As experts note, it’s becoming more similar to authoritarian ruling parties in Hungary and Turkey. GOP leaders’ remaining silent after death threats are made against their political rivals should therefore be viewed as one more step toward embracing fascism, in which violence is viewed as an acceptable tool to acquire and retain political power.”

I don't know if this was in response to the article I posted but if it is, make no mistake about it that I am not saying it was acceptable behavior by the neighbor no more than Malcolm X was saying he thought it was acceptable behavior when he made the "chicken coming home to roost" comment concerning the Kennedy assassination.

It shouldn't surprise anyone that this type of thing is happening when all we have seen Republicans is, well, this type of thing. As the saying goes, "when you lie down with dogs, you end up with fleas." I have as much sympathy for that guy's family as his has for mine. And while I would rather take the high road, when you are in a battle with people who will stop at NOTHING, the high road leads to a dead end.

Malcolm X said "If you stick a knife in my back nine inches and pull it out six inches, there's no progress. If you pull it all the way out that's not progress. Progress is healing the wound that the blow made. And they haven't even pulled the knife out much less heal the wound. They won't even admit the knife is there."

There is no progress toward reconciliation with Republicans when they won't even admit that they are the problem. Republicans are finding out that what you sow so shall you reap.

Democrats who wanted to defund the police have also discovered that you reap what you sow.

This could have gone in the gun thread too

I'll never get why people act like holding a gun makes them tough.

The "come and take it" BS. Especially idiots like Ronnie Jackson who probably doesn't even actually fire his weapons, he just owns them as props.

How so? Which police department was defunded and what was the result?

I'm asking because in the example of the Republican guy running for office, by saying he is pro-trump, he's declaring that he's pro-lying, pro-insurrection, pro-sexual abuse, pro-violence and everything else that trump has perpetuated on our country and everything that Republicans have been complicit in for the sake of power. Trump has openly advocated violence against one's political enemies. So when a candidate states he/she is pro-trump, that means they are pro-everything that he stands for. And when that same attitude gets pointed right back the people who are in support of those type of things, they are simply getting back what they have propagated.

So I ask again, how are democrats who wanted to defund the police reaping what they sowed or was this just a drive-by attempt at whataboutism?

Honestly, the more that it feels like this country is sliding backwards and beyond redemption, the less I care. Republicans have made two things very clear: we're in a war and I am their enemy. In a war, people die. Better them than me!

Republicans are about to find out that there are two sides to every coin. Democrats have resisted flipping that coin on it's head up until now. That's seemingly coming to an end. The more targeted, attacked and repressed people feel, the more likely they are to turn to violence. And it just feels like a lot of people are starting to say "fork it".

Guess this can go here
==================
Fake news speaks many languages, but it’s particularly fond of Spanish.

An epidemic of Spanish-language right-wing disinformation that spiked around the 2020 election on social media platforms, and in some big-city AM radio stations, is revving up again ahead of the fall midterms.

Two years ago, before the 2020 presidential election, Spanish-language videos and news stories smeared Joe Biden as a communist. After the election, disinformation campaigns accused Black Lives Matter of spurring the Jan. 6 insurrection and bolstered the lie that Biden stole the election.

Mixed in with all this were warnings that coronavirus vaccines were dangerous.
The false narratives jumped quickly from screen to screen, metastasizing through WhatsApp, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Now, as the midterm elections loom, social media researchers and Democratic political strategists tell me far-right disinformation is snowballing again, with fresh falsehoods spreading on the usual platforms but also on newer platforms, including TikTok, Signal and Telegram.

Evelyn Pérez-Verdía, chief strategy officer for We Are Más, a consulting firm focused on Hispanic and diaspora communications, told me that the texting platform Telegram, in particular, “has become a rabbit hole for QAnon channels in Spanish.”

This is bad news — not just for Democrats and Latino voters, but also for democracy.

It’s hard to know precisely why Donald Trump was able to expand his vote count among Latino voters in 2020, compared with the 2016 election. The pandemic? The economy? Immigration? More conservative social values?

But there is little doubt, Pérez-Verdía said, that the steady drumbeat of bogus facts and false narratives, buttressed by incendiary, authentic-looking videos, played an outsize role, especially in Florida and South Texas……..

Nazis in Germany could not be reasoned with. There was no high road to be taken with them. Taking the high road in Germany simply made it easier for them to usurp power and the result was 6 million Jews murdered and a world war. Republicans are showing more and more that they are not interested in being reasoned with. You either do it their way or you do it their way.

I just read your first sentence and stopped.
You are kidding me aren't you?
Do I have have to name the cities that reduced their police force and crime went thru the roof.
Seriously?
Are you in favor of reduced police numbers?

No. I am not kidding you at all.
Do I have have to name the cities that reduced their police force and crime went thru the roof.
Seriously?
Yes. You made the claim. First you should explain what you understand the word "defund" to mean versus what the actual definition of "defund" is. Then you should list only two cities that stopped all funding of their police department (actual defunding). Finally, you should post crime data prior to complete defunding and post defunding. If you can do that, then you have a valid point. Otherwise all you'll have a catch phrase made up by short-sighted individuals and anecdotal crime stats. Violent crime has been on the rise since 2016.
Are you in favor of reduced police numbers?
I'm in favor of reduced police-involved killings and more police accountability. I'm also in favor of the elimination of qualified immunity and stronger penalties for police who violate people's civil rights. When police are held to the same standard of the people they are charged with policing, we would see a reduction in complaints about the police.

I've definitely come around to the conclusion that we (collectively those of us who are anti-Trumpism And who had better settle our other differences) are going to have to meet force with force.

What exactly I mean by that I'm not even quite sure at this point.. just that I think that's generally the way it's going to have to play or else we'll just give in and cede the ground to them at gunpoint.
