This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

Would a 2024 ticket with DeSantis at the top and Liz Cheney as the VP have a chance at uniting the party?
My rationale is the Trump liking voters would hypothetically be ok voting for DeSantis and the anti Trump Republicans would be comforted by having Liz Cheney as the VP. Neither DeSantis or Cheney are likely thrilled with each other, but for "the good of the Party" they MIGHT swallow their personal preferences and go for it. HYPOTHETICALLY POSSIBLE.

For example....California Governor Ronald Reagan ran for President in a tough primary against George Herbert Walker Bush. They did not like each other and Reagan's conservative view of the world was not a perfect match with Bush's moderate style. Yet GOP back room power brokers must have convinced them to pair up to make a victory in November much more likely. I am floating the idea that a DeSantis Cheney ticket could evolve for the same reasons?🤔

I personally doubt she would agree, but who knows? DeSantis is trying to “be” Trump, though, he’s pretty much the opposite of a traditional small government conservative. The ideological chasm might be too wide.

Reagan and Bush never attempted a coup. They are as different than today's Republican party as they were to the Republican party prior to the southern strategy. Both Reagan and Bush would be considered RINO's today.

There is no way that Cheney would run on a ticket with trump-lite in any fashion. Cheney is a true conservative. DeSantis is a smarter version of trump but still someone who supports the insurrection and lies put forth by the members of the attempted coup.

You may be correct that "There is no way that Cheney would run on a ticket with" DeSantis.
Yet I want to point out that your post's opening sentence is irrelevant.
YOU: "Reagan and Bush never attempted a coup"
    and now I'll add:
ME: DeSantis and Cheney never attempted a coup.

I remember being about 18 years old and watching the coverage of the 1980 GOP Convention on ABC Network. The anchors and guest speakers were saying how Reagan hadn't announced his VP choice and there was much speculation on who he would choose. The various states were announcing their delegates results....Bush was gonna lose but the states that "went for him" were casting their vote for him. It was FAR from a united convention. It was obvious that the Reagan Camp was not happy with the Bush people. YET...for "the good of the party"...because "What good is it to have your favorite VP choice IF in November you lose?"....so for the "good of the party and to increase the likelihood of victory" Reagan chose Bush.
..........thus although it seems absurd to suggest it:
For the good of the party and to increase the chance of victory, a DeSantis Cheney ticket COULD happen.
It might also be a possibility that Liz Cheney led the ticket and DeSantis was the VP
Anything is possible even if it is not logical or not likely.

I'm afraid you are wrong. Your first paragraph likened the situation between Reagan and Bush.....both presidents who didn't attempt a coup to remain in power and both of whom were not raging lunatic narcissists bent on destroying democracy....to that of Cheney and DeSantis. There is no comparison between those 4 not even the fact that they all have an (R) behind their name. Reagan, Bush and Cheney are from a different republican party than that of DeSantis.

So in order for my opening sentence to be "completely irrelevant", your comparison has to actually make sense. It doesn't.

Oh, and to answer your last question, I have no idea why your are floating the idea of a DeSantis/Cheney ticket. Maybe because you don't want to be seen as supporting a party that supported an insurrection of the US government? I simply don't know why you floated it.

Would a 2024 ticket with DeSantis at the top and Liz Cheney as the VP have a chance of uniting the Republican party? Helping to bridge the gap between current Trump supporters and anti Trump people like me?
No. I think and hope Liz has more integrity than that. I would vote for Liz if she was at the top of the ticket. I'm not voting for DeSantis no matter what the ticket looks like.

For the good of the current GOP, DeSantis needs to be nowhere near it. The entirety of the current GOP needs to be sent to education camps.

I floated it because post # 3003 suggested Liz Cheney might consider a run for president.
That hadn't occurred to me. So after reflecting on that I thought it would be fun to see what others thought of this highly improbable hypothetical ticket...DeSantis Cheney...or Cheney DeSantis.
I think my comparison makes sense.
I get that you have a bad opinion of DeSantis. You disagree. Whatever.
I think anyone watching the Jan. 6th hearings should have a good opinion of Cheney.
I stand by my posts....it's just for fun...and I look forward to what others have to say.

It's really simple to me, unless the party cuts the Trumpers out like a cancer, for the good of the party and ultimately the country, I'll never consider returning to the party. This whole party over country mentality has long bothered me.

You'll forgive me for not being in a "fun" mood these days watching the constitution that I put on a uniform, raised my hand and promised to defend against ALL enemies foreign and DOMESTIC gets shirt on by a party that wraps itself in the flag and passes laws taking away rights from its citizens, some of whom took the same oath as I did.

I think it's an interesting discussion, but I'm not sure someone like Cheney would be on a ticket with DeSantis. I'm sure there are others who would, but idk.

Why do you think that Liz would agree to play second fiddle to someone as Trumpy as DeSantis?

She wouldn’t, unless she made some kind of crazy 180, which has happened to many of the idiots in that party….but I think Liz has to much integrity for that….I could see a Cheney/Romney ticket as making sense but probably not polling well with the crazies….

Thanks for your service, my dad was a WWII vet, and while I miss him greatly I’m glad he isn’t around to see what the Republican Party has turned into…He voted for Obama twice, as he already didn’t like the direction that the party was going in (he was staunchly opposed to the Iraq war)….the concepts of “freedom” and “patriotism” have been so….twisted and warped…..

Ok. I forgive you. I am still gonna enjoy my Saturday. 😎

Yup. It's all just hypothetical stuff exchanged between folks on a forum that is not on the national radar. What we say/post is just for our group enjoyment and our thoughts do not impact anything anyway.
