I’m sure much of us are having 2016 flashbacks this morning with a sick feeling to our stomachs..

2 of the last 3 elections Democrats have lost to a far right demagogue

Harris didn’t get close in many states to even Biden’s performance. We could very well lose the Presidency, Senate AND House depending on results the next few days…..

    What went wrong?
    What could’ve been done better?
What can we change in the future to ensure voters are motivated like they were when Obama was elected?

Democrats have no choice but to admit there’s a huge problem with some aspect of their platform— and to do a deep introspection of what’s going wrong..

I've given this a little thought in trying to process the nihilism I feel right now for this country. I don't believe the trajectory we're on is salvageable, to be honest. For that reason, I think Democrats should just keep functioning as they are, the alternative.

What I think we need now is new thinkers and ideas on what country based on different principles would look like. We need to start organizing now and putting out thought for how to pick up the pieces and start something new once this country collapses. I'm not saying that's going to happen in Trump's presidency, but it will eventually because our country is committed to this path. So we need new ideas for what a multi-cultural, non-racist, non-elitist, economically fair and viable country would look like. One were propaganda is outlawed and the truth is a pillar of our principles. One where industry and religion have a proper roll, but where they are not allowed to influence or participate in crafting of our laws. Start gathering in communities to put some of these ideas to work in small settings. Write into existence a new way forward that isn't beholden to the past.

Not saying you're wrong, but that's a huge hill to climb.

I’ve said for years going back to the PDB days that one thing I’d like to see is this:

If you are a political candidate running for office (at least nationally but ideally any office) or if you are a campaign spokesperson and are talking with the media YOU MUST TELL THE TRUTH!!!!! Like you’re under oath

You’re entitled to your own opinions but you are not entitled to your own facts

Never happen for a lot of reasons (first amendment, I hate when people use that as a way to excuse or justify telling bald faced lies)

“Normal puffery” if someone says half of Americans support XYZ and the poll they’re referring to actually says 48.2% is that a lie? Where the line between lie and close enough?

Social media is going to do what it does (wish we could curb that misinformation too) I wish candidates/campaigns couldn’t get away with saying stuff that isn’t even remotely close to being true no matter how you look at it

Once again the best woman is defeated by the worst man.

Dear Dems: Do you get it now? We thought with the enthusiasm, the crowded rallies and the energy that Kamala had a great shot. She didn't make the foolish mistakes Hillary did, yet she still lost. To an orangutan with a combover, a mean spirited, petty orangutan.

Let me emphasize this: SHE lost. SHE lost to a being an old, white guy defeated last time around. What's the common thread here?

Yes, it's sad. It shouldn't be this way, but it's the reality we have to deal with. Do not run another female for President for at least twelve years. And only if that woman has unbelievable charisma and support.

Also, for the love of God, find a way to appeal to white people. You know, the majority?

I just can't accept this as the deciding factor, or even close. Was it some small smart? Sure, but not to the extent to what is being talked about in this thread. You had voters in WI splitting their vote for a female senator, but not a female president.

It would have been hard for anyone to win in the scenario Biden handed the party.

He ran as a bridge candidate in 2020. What happened?

People don't treat state/local races exactly like presidential races. They're different and split tickets do happen in some states in almost every election. That a woman won a Michigan Seante doesn't mean all that much in terms of Trump winning. The proverbial glass ceiling for women in Congress has long been broken and people don't really think twice about voting for a woman at that level. For president is something different. It is what it is. I mean, if you want to keep putting up candidates who start out with a disadvantage, free to do it, but they won't win. It's not really that complicated.

Agreed, I'd say the same thing about Pete Buttigieg. I believe he'd be a very good President. I don't believe he'd win the election
because I don't believe we are ready to elect a gay man to the highest office yet. Last night proved to me we aren't ready for a woman
yet. Taurus is right. The Democrats are going to have to start appealing to White people. It's sad,but true.

Just to add to your sentiment: very much yes. But it seems impossible for Dems to appeal to your average straight white person who lives paycheck to paycheck (and there are way more of those than many think), and who's probably packing. Michelle Obama's soundbite, "the privilege of generational wealth" was a great soundbite, but ignores the very large portion of white people who do not have wealth, let alone generational wealth.

If the Dems want to advance their progressive agenda, they need to seize power first, and to seize power, they need to put their progressive agenda in the back burner until they seize power. That's the catch.

Hard to imagine why a party with a "WHO WE SERVE" section on their website that includes literally everything but white men, has trouble with the white male vote

Are Rural Americans, not predominantly white? Union Members? Faith Communities? Young People and Students? Are we living in a different country now.

The American people aren't who we think they are.

We aren't a tweak or two from being ok.

The most important thing a country produces is it's people. We've been getting progressively worse at producing good people for decades. There is no fixing it at this point when we have several generations of people who are just forking idiots and think their opinions are just as good as experts on a topic.

I couldn't care less about the future of the country. fork us.

You can include whites in just about every group listed there. But is it really that hard or that bad to actually say "white"? In a country in which the majority of the population is white?

Also, we really need to move away from _________ - American.

That's one thing I'd say about MX... in MX no matter who you are, what you are, or where you come from, you are Mexican. lately, some U.S. imitating wokesters have tried to introduce "African-Mexican"... but people don't like that.

George Carlin summed this up 15 years ago

Sell one broad message, not 16 different messages to 16 different groups. Also, whites are tired of lists that omit or exclude them.
