Trump VP selection process begins (1 Viewer)

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) broke off talks on bipartisan legislation to cut childbirth costs around the same time Donald Trump’s campaign intensified its consideration of Vance as a running mate, according to four people and a draft of the plan obtained by The Washington Post.

The plan would have prohibited insurance companies from charging new mothers co-pays or other expenses related to childbirth, marking a clear break with GOP orthodoxy. Although Vance’s team started working with the office of Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) on the bill in June 2023, talks stopped this June and have not resumed, leaving the fate of the legislation unclear after Vance’s nomination to the GOP ticket, said the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to reflect private conversations.

The break in the talks — at least for now — captures the broader puzzle facing the man who is suddenly the second-most important figure in the Republican Party. In his brief time in the Senate, Vance indicated a vision for a more active role for the government in GOP policymaking on everything from taxes to antitrust.

Vance’s allies characterize those proposals as in line with Trump’s priorities, but some of the Ohio senator’s plans — such as clawing back the pay of Wall Street executives whose banks fail — have already prompted grumbling from some Trump allies.............

The lying is non-stop and it’s shameful to lie about your mother’s addiction problem in order to blame Mexicans for it. JD is a soulless hypocrite.

The word "Sheenis" comes to mind

Has Vance issued his backtracking comment on this yet or is he doubling down?

Also, Kamala Harris is a stepmother, which some are claiming doesn’t count

    “You’re not a ‘real’ mother”
    ========================

Childfree adults are outraged over past comments made by JD Vance about Vice President Kamala Harris, and how they’ve been judged simply for not having children.

In a resurfaced interview from 2021, Donald Trump’s newly-appointed running mate told former Fox News host Tucker Carlson that the country was run by “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable too.”

“Look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC, the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children,” Vance, 39, continued. “How does it make any sense we’ve turned our country over to people who don’t really have a direct stake in it?”

As a video of the interview went viral on X, formerly Twitter, it didn’t take long for the childfree community to catch wind of Vance’s sexist comments.

Women without children took to the platform to point out the constant criticism they’ve faced over their decision to remain childfree.

Some people aptly noted that just because they didn’t have children doesn’t mean they’re unable to make decisions about the future of the US…….

I don’t think he has addressed it. In fact I have read that he is proposing giving parents an extra vote for each child. Hasn’t backed off from that either that I have seen.

Noticed this also when Jill Biden supported Hunter at his trial - she's not his 'real' mother, how could she possibly have any real love or concern for him?

There may be some instances where a small bit of that criticism may be somewhat valid

If you're an adult and your father remarries (maybe to a woman younger than you are) then yes, I would get not considering her a mother figure, I get there not being any parental bond, I get referring to her not as 'my stepmom' and more 'my father’s wife’

But I think those are the exceptions and it's not right to dismiss stepparents as not real parents
    ============================================================

When Ella Emhoff graduated from college in 2021, Vice President Harris posed smiling beside her stepdaughter. At Cole Emhoff’s wedding in October, Harris officiated her stepson’s ceremony. The Emhoff siblings have affectionately dubbed Harris “Momala,” a name she has said she wears proudly.

But Harris’s parental role was altogether erased in recent and resurfaced attacks from her political opponents. In a video drawn from a 2021 interview on Fox News’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” J.D. Vance, now the GOP vice-presidential nominee, said that Harris and other prominent Democrats (including Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) “don’t really have a direct stake” in the country’s future because they are “people without children.”

In the clip, which has amassed more than 25 million views since it was shared Monday on X, Vance also refers to Democrats as “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices they’ve made.”

Others on the right have echoed Vance’s argument: Will Chamberlain, a conservative commentator and former Ron DeSantis staffer, posted on X on Sunday that a “really simple, underdiscussed reason why Kamala Harris shouldn’t be President” is that she has “no children.”

Among the torrent of outraged replies online, many offered corrections to these claims: In 2022, Buttigieg and his husband, Chasten, celebrated the birth of their twins. Past presidents have been child-free (including James K. Polk and James Buchanan). George Washington did not have biological offspring; he was a stepparent who helped raise his wife’s children from a previous marriage.

And Harris’s relationships with the son and daughter whom she helped raise with her husband, second gentleman Doug Emhoff, absolutely deserve respect and recognition, says Jann Blackstone, a co-parenting mediator, author and founder of the nonprofit Bonus Families, which supports divorced or separated parents and their combined families.

Blackstone, who has two stepchildren — she prefers the term “bonus children” — knows firsthand the lingering stereotypes and misconceptions that have long plagued stepparents, and stepmothers in particular: “That they’re not the real mom. That they don’t count. That they’re second-best,” Blackstone says. Over the decades that Blackstone has worked with blended families, she says, she has seen the toll that these messages can take on devoted caregivers.............

So when she considers the recent condemnation of Harris, “I just roll my eyes,” she says. “It’s not surprising to me that they’re going to invalidate her role as a caretaker and as someone who is invested in the future of her stepchildren.”

It didn’t surprise Matthew Brake either. The stepfather of three says he’s noticed anti-stepparent sentiments growing in recent years, primarily in certain right-leaning corners of the internet.

The clip from Vance’s interview reminded Brake of a social media post he saw circulating a couple of years ago, around the time he was planning to ask his wife to marry him. The post was shared by a self-identified religious, conservative account, he says. “It was typical of other things I was seeing too — this guy didn’t understand how a single guy who did not have his own kids would choose to marry a woman who had her own kids already, and then choose to raise another man’s children,” Brake says.

“There was this sort of ugly macho-ism, which, coming from a Christian background, was so antithetical to all the messages I always heard about how God adopts people into his family, about how we should adopt and love the orphan and those who don’t have parents.”

Brake has a strong relationship with his own stepfather, he says, and he approaches his stepchildren with the same depth of care and respect. When he married his wife, he says, his wedding vows included a promise to love her children as his own.

“You’re still concerned about their future. And if you think that someone having stepkids keeps them from caring about the future — that probably says more about you than it does about a stepparent,” he says. “It’s a politically gross thing to say. It’s disrespectful to every stepparent, to every parent who has adopted kids, to the people who can’t have children but nonetheless mentor and teach and take care of children — it’s disrespectful to all of those people.”...........

Does Vance also believe that the childless don't deserve a say or opinion on what books are in school and public libraries or what subjects can and can not be taught?

Zoom in: Coming out of the GOP convention, Vance is the least-liked non-incumbent VP nominee since at least 1980 — and the first to register a net negative favorability rating, according to CNN data analyst Harry Enten.

The freshman senator and "Hillbilly Elegy" author won his 2022 election in Ohio by 6 percentage points — 2 points less than Trump's winning margin in the state two years earlier.

Vance, who faced the popular and well-funded Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan, underperformed every statewide Republican on the ticket that year, running 20 points behind Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine.

Sure seems like Rubio or Youngkin or someone would have been the better pick, especially now with Kamala as the nominee.

Whatever you think about his comment, it's not surprising that the media would leave out this part of what he said:

He said he wasn't talking about women who were unable to have kids.

Actor Jennifer Aniston, who has been open about her fertility struggles, slammed Sen. JD Vance over a resurfaced 2021 interview in which he said the United States was being run by “a bunch of childless cat ladies.”

“I truly can’t believe this is coming from a potential VP of The United States,” Aniston wrote Wednesday in an Instagram story, including a clip of Vance’s comments.

Who would be surprised that the media that is trying to help rebrand Harris would dishonesty leave out what Vance said above?

Media: Harris was never the border czar eventhough we reported that she was 3 years ago and we didn't "correct" the article until last week when it was announced she was running for President.

Here's an easy way to spot honesty. The Tweet says:

"How many people posting that @JDVance disrespected people who can’t have kids saw this clip from the same speech?"

I denoted the relevant part, "from the same speech".

What is being referenced is an interview with Tucker Carlson, not a speech at a non-profit institute that is going to get less traction and less coverage than a primetime slot on cable news. Greg Price knows this. He is lying to you.

It was the interview with Tucker Carlson. What the heck are you talking about? He made a dumb statement trying to be cool with Tucker and now he has to face the consequences.
