The football board had the very useful Daily Trump Tracker thread, which was a good place to briefly discuss the latest ridiculous thing that might have ended 97% of prior Presidential administrations even if it didn't necessarily justify an entire thread devoted to it in 2017-2019 (because of the sheer volume of these things). Since I don't see anything like that here already, I'll add one myself.

This is the kind of stuff that I cannot stand about the media. You have this memo circulated by the NY AG about an announcement tomorrow. The guy admits he has no idea if it involves Trump but that doesn’t stop his speculation:

And then that gets picked up by an “Editor” for the Daily Beast (biased left of course) who tweets about it:

we are seriously going to start speculating that this is about Trump. And Epstein. And Russia. And Deutsche Bank. And etc.

it’s obnoxious and it’s not journalism. It’s sensationalism and speculation.

how about this: cover the press conference like a professional. Wait and see what it actually says and evaluate any implications or credibility concerns.

this is so stupid and I really can’t stand it

Because whatever it is, it will end up being mild or benign or preliminary or whatever. Nothing like all the speculation that’s happening around it now. And so when it happens, those rumourmongers end up hurting only themselves in their race to cover something OMG GROUNDBREAKING

    It’s been old.

Here is the problem. It is a tweet what the heck do you expect?

It is just that stuff to consume for people that have to consume constantly.

Twitter is fine when it links an article not by a blogging asshat or something happening now but besides that it is truly nonsense..

So the hullabaloo ends up being about the NRA:

I have believed, and said, for a while that the NRA has long abandoned its principles and existed as a lobbying arm that prized its political power. And that it also existed to enrich its top officials.

on top of that, they were tied to Russian money and lobbying issues. And as they saw declines in their membership (while other 2A groups saw increases), they became even more compromised by outside influence to keep their coffers full.

this is a move that is long overdue, imo. And it’s worthy of national attention. But it also highlights that the obsession with it somehow being Trump related and people running with it was, again, presumptuous.

I was reading the giant thread on twitter that you posted above of the NYAG's announcement of today's announcement and someone deep in the comments actually said that this was what was going to be announced. I'd actually forgotten that the NRA was even being investigated.

ETA: This just gave Trump and his base something to complain about and focus on that the communist/socialist/democrat heathens are coming for your guns.

This subtweet (that's what they're called, right?) is amazing. Sounds like a happy marriage to me.

This Esquire piece pulls no punches in criticizing Trump's claim that there will be a vaccine by November 3.

Which is all well and good, except the right-wing media machine is going to convince the "Second Amendment People" that the takedown of the NRA is just the first step to confiscating all guns. It's going to be another culture war flashpoint the GOP can use to rile up their low-information voters. Of which there are a lot.
