The football board had the very useful Daily Trump Tracker thread, which was a good place to briefly discuss the latest ridiculous thing that might have ended 97% of prior Presidential administrations even if it didn't necessarily justify an entire thread devoted to it in 2017-2019 (because of the sheer volume of these things). Since I don't see anything like that here already, I'll add one myself.

So I don’t have a link, but I saw a clip on the news this morning of one of the Trump rallies where he is saying that “at the highest levels” law enforcement is “watching” the governors of PA, NM, etc.

What the hell is he even talking about? Who would be watching and what would they be watching?

    The man is a loon.

He's also calling for all ballots that aren't counted on election day to be voided. He tweeted about it yesterday but Twitter flagged it and I believe actually took it down.

States certify elections within a week or a month, depending on the state. https://ballotpedia.org/Election_results_certification_dates,_2020

Trump is counting on folks ignorance to the TV networks 'calling an election' vs when they're actually certified. I don't think any election has been certified on election night.

So Judge Kaplan at SDNY has ruled in favor of Jean Carroll on both elements of her opposition to DOJ's attempt to substitute the US as party-defendant in the rape defamation case. Judge Kaplan ruled that the president is not a federal employee for purposes of the Federal Tort Claims Act, and the president was not acting in the scope of employment under D.C. (or New York) law in making the allegedly defamatory claims.

This will certainly go to the 2nd Circuit. I'm surprised, though I admittedly had no basis to have an opinion that the president is covered by the FTCA, I just took that for granted. But based on good authority, including the 6th Circuit opinion in September about the defamation claims against Elizabeth Warren, and based on the transcript of Trump's comments (that were very clearly presented in a political context) I thought the court would find scope. But scope is a state law question and I haven't parsed out the rationale yet.

    Here's the decision:

If President Trump wins re-election, he'll move to immediately fire FBI Director Christopher Wray and also expects to replace CIA Director Gina Haspel and Defense Secretary Mark Esper, two people who've discussed these officials' fates with the president tell Axios.

Chris Liddell, Trump's deputy chief of staff
for policy coordination, is heading the White House’s transition effort, including vetting potential new Cabinet officials, two White House officials told Axios.
    • He's working closely with White House counsel Pat Cipollone and Johnny McEntee, who runs the Office of Presidential Personnel and has been conducting "loyalty tests" to weed out "Never Trumpers" from the administration.

This is dangerous because if no one dare to tell someone who is supposed to lead a country that he is wrong, then he will lose touch with reality and his decisions will be based on incorrect informations which inevitably will lead to disasters.

I don’t know anything about the legal standpoint, but from a justice standpoint I would love to see him have to provide a DNA sample and have proof positive that he’s lying about her. A girl can dream.....

But I did see the argument made that the President has never been considered a federal employee and that works to his advantage in other areas.

i havent followed this at all, but seems like the crux would be "scope of employment" defined.
Should be interesting to hear what the 2nd has to say

Are you saying that if this comes to pass, Trump will no longer have a grasp on reality?

for what it's worth, but to fair she's hardly the first with anti-trump statement who changed their tune on trump

Kayleigh McEnany praised Joe Biden and argued that he would pose a challenge to Donald Trump before she worked at the White House as press secretary, CNN reported on Monday.

In an interview from 2015, McEnany described Biden as "funny and likable" and said he "can resonate with the middle class" in an appearance on Fox Business.

In another 2015 slot, she also said that Biden's "man of the people" image would be a problem if Trump came off as a "tycoon" thanks to his wealth, CNN reported her as having told New York radio station AM970.

The comments come from before McEnany worked for Trump when, like many Republicans, she was openly critical of Trump, then one of many Republicans fighting for the party nomination.........................

she was ambitious...that much is clear. but remember, she was a "pundit" and those folks change stances to benefit them in ratings/clicks etc. So it stands to reason her stance changed once she saw an opportunity to align herself with Trump. It was calculated.

Unfortunately she kinda "type cast" herself to be on one side only going forward. Fox/Trump universe only. No one outside that universe will take her seriously moving forward.

There should be a Biden campaign ad showing McEnany praising Biden.

She was a CNN pundit during the 2016 primaries and routinely mocked Trump. Just shows how shameless some people can be even when they profess to be religiously devout.

I remember that and was actually a bit surprised she was tapped to be press secretary.

Fwiw, I think CNN would jump at the chance to get her back when she's no longer press secretary.

To play what role on CNN? Rick Santorum is their resident "antagonist".

I dont think she would bring any additional insight or opinion and honestly, i dont think anyone who would align themselves with Trump has much of a moral compass. If ambition was the motivating factor for her to take on her current role, then she tossed aside her ethics and morals for status. Thats quite a compromise.
She knew exactly who she was hitching her wagon to.
